Good swiss mechanic with 40 years of experience, speaks English, German and Spanish.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
after 110'000km we just wanted to change oils and do some service on our Toyota. stayed for one week and he checked everything - competente and reliable. to recommend !
Report Check-InCan recommend Ernesto. Did some repairs on my Land Cruiser 200 suspension. Engaged, fair pricing, good work.
Report Check-InUnfortunately we think the best times are over. Although they are very friendly and you can stay/sleep in your car, we didn't had the best experience here. As mentioned below everything is very clean (so never come with a dirty car) and they don't work very fast. They also repaired what they said they want to repair, but afterwards I lost a lot of oil on my front axle and almost destroy my front wheel drive. However it can also be just a coincidence that the sealing ring was too old?!
Report Check-InErnesto was well educated in Switzerland and has 40 years of experience. He checked our Toyota Landcruiser really thorough and even found things that were overlooked in Europe. He organized all the parts and his mecanics worked very neat and skilled for hours. We were charged 150 bs per hour.
Report Check-Invery good mechanics, the place is clean
possibility to sleep at the place during the re
paration.
price is 200BOL/h but worth it
he checks the car and just change what is needed.
Ernesto is amazingly friendly and helpful. He doesn’t do motorbikes himself but knows great garages nearby. He called 3 people to find the best place for my problem. He ended up recommending Palacios Xtreme, and they really knew what they were doing with my Yamaha Tenere 250cc.
Report Check-InThe perfect place in La Paz. It is the best place to get your car serviced or repaired. At the same time it is very well located to explore La Paz.
Report Check-InSuch a nice person! We came here due to a recommendation and because of its good comments here in iOverlander. We can definitely confirm: the work was done very professional, everything is very clean and tidy, they searched for a good solution for our problem. Furthermore we had the possibility to camp here for a few days (toilet available but no showers) - really nice!!!
Report Check-InVery clean and orderly garage run professionally by Ernesto. He speaks good English and is very helpful. We had break issues that he diagnosed as gas in the lines caused by excessive braking due to the steep drive into La Paz. He didn’t charge us, great experience!
Report Check-Inwe came here with our VW T3 Turbo Diesel. Although they don't make any diesel, they could do everything and with european standard. we are really satisfied, probably the best mechanic since half a year.
Thank you Ernesto and team!
We went there with our Defender to change breaks and the valve of the tank as well as regular maintenance.
+ german speaking
+ tidy and clean workshop
+ could camp there
- expensive (30 dollar/hour but they work only have the pace they do in Europe)
- asked to check the prop shaft -> 200 km later it broke. He could have seen it
- Ernesto himself doesn't work under the car anymore
In the end we are not too happy. But I still would go there as there no better options I think.
Report Check-InErnesto and his team helped us with their qualified expertise when we came for a regular maintenance. We announced our coming one week ahead by phone (fixnet La Paz: 2 41 52 64) so he schedulded us accordingly. Staying in his workshop overnight was easy going. You can get in and out by getting a key. The restroom is very simple so don't expect the comfort of hostal.
It is a bit tricky to find. There are no indications/signs for a workshop.
The housenumber is 2326 on Calle Jaimes Freyre. Heading direction of city center downhill it is on the right side of the road. There is a big green gate and on the right side about 5m away is a small green door with a bell.
Ernesto helped us to change the break fluid by ourselves, because his mechanics has no time; he has break fluid DOT4 and for heavy duty DOT5 and sells also coolant concentrate for lower temperatures; in most shops we found only ready mixed coolant for 0'C; friendly and very helpful
Report Check-InWe asked for a general inspection of our Toyota LandCruiser 70 series. Ernesto and his team proposed to change parts of the suspension and to replace front wheel bearings. The total job would take a week and cost USD 2000. We checked back with All American Imports, our workshop in the Netherlands as well as some knowledgeable overlanders. Conclusion was that only the play in the front wheels had to be removed, the rest was not necessary or could wait. It was a 2 hour BOB 400 job that was done well. Communication with Ernesto was in German or Spanish. It is a good place, but know what you want.
Report Check-InErnseto and his mechanics are excellent. European prices (200 bob an hour) but they thoroughly checked everything. Not something we managed to get a mechanic in the UK to do! Very clean and tudy workshop and mechanics who take pride in their work. Parts are difficult to find but they managed to improvise.
Report Check-InVery good, thorough mechanic with an very organised and clean workshop. He charges Bs200/hour so more expensive than most. He can organise other types of mechanic e.g. an electromechanic, tire specialist etc. if needed. You can stay there even on weekends, he will give you keys. Water is potable. He prefers to speak Spanish rather than English.
Report Check-InThe shock absorbers they gave us broke 4000 km later. So they were not strong enough for our van.
We would not go there again, for Bolivia it is too expensive. One hour work coasts you 200 Bobs (almost 30 dollars)!
Not really for Motorcycles but clearly this is the place to get a four-wheeled vehicle repaired or serviced in La Paz. Mr Ernesto kindly recommended a nearby motorbike garage. His workshop was immaculate!
Report Check-InFriendly and knowledgable. Helped fix a small problem only bike. But best of all is his database of quality Moto mechanics is La Paz.
Report Check-InWe neded to fix the car and had the job done at Volks Auto Motor. We were allowed to camp in the garage while the car got fixed.
