Description

A lake side spot a couple of km before arriving at the hotspring waterfall coming from El Estor.
A simple, nice beach like spot with a huge palapa and simple toilet. Electric light in the palapa.
Area supposedly owned by some Finca owner. The caretaker and his family very nice people.
Update on price seems they charge 50Q per night and I was 1 person!!!!

Charge 10 Q per day/ pp (you can camp for the same price). No charge for children. We paid only for the 17 years old. 14 and 11 didnt pay. The second night we gave extra 20 Q as propina to the caretaker.
Away from the road, quiet except from frogs! We stayed two nights around saturday, no one else around but us. Nice swimming in the lake. You can park your vehicle right at the shore or under the palapa. Some trees for shade.
Good for up to midsize vehicles.

As previously described. I am a solo person and they wanted 50 Q I have them 40Q based on the previous reviews even 40 Q is high at least you don’t have kids in your face trying to sell you something.

If you want to stand quietly, alone and beautifully by the lake, this is the place for you. A great place to stay longer. This place belongs to a nice family. There is a large palappa and there are very basic toilets. We paid 40Q, 10Q/person for the night and 10Q/person for the entrance fee. You can walk to Aguas Calientes Waterfall 40 minutes one way.

Loved this place! A little hard to find, it’s just a gate and small house on main road then private road leads down to lake. We spent five calm, beautiful, relaxing days here. Paid 50 quetzales per night.

Go send away here, due to Corona problems, there was an other overlander staying here, they only allowed one camper to stay on site.

Report Check-In

Great place! Enough space for 20+ overlander rigs (but best when you are alone;))

We’ve been here for the past couple of day and this place is heaven. We were the only
Ones here and enjoyed the lake. There is a big palapa with a table where you can cook. There is also a shower and a toilet. Very basic and peaceful!

it's a wonderful place.
the boy at the gate charged us 50Q for one night, he is probably keeping half of the money. I tried to negotiated, but he said it have to be 50.

there is a lot of shade! lots of trees and a palapa for your hammock. a dog family is hanging around, five including one cute puppy.
at Sunday evening there were some friendly locals.

just a little street noise in the night.

This is a lovely spot only two km west of the Cascade Calientes El Paraiso on the 7E. After playing at the waterfall we inquired there about staying the night but but they wanted 40Q/person to stay on their small yard next to the highway. Even though they had bathrooms and showers, we couldn't bring ourselves to pay 80Q for what they were offering, especially after we just paid 40Q to park and use the waterfalls. They took our money but failed to tell us that we only had 40 minutes to enjoy, because the place closes at 5pm.
At any rate, We decided to check this place out.
Heading west from the falls, you will see a small white sign that says "Playa". Blink and you'll miss it. When we drove in, Alejandro was at the gate and welcomed us, although it was already dark out when we arrived. We paid 10Q/person to camp for the night.
When we drove down to the waterfront, the road on the property was a little rough but not a big deal. There is a large palapa with a single light bulb, a table and a few benches. In the morning a large group showed up (a Catholic retreat, which we were informed of the night before). They used the palapa, which is why we haven't posted pictures of it.
There is lots of flat space to park and many trees for shade. The water is warm, and clear. Great for a morning swim. There is a little noise from the road, but not much. The jungle blocks any view of the highway and some of the noise too.
There are bucket flush toilets, but true to form they don't have seats. The bathroom hut was pretty clean.
Alejandro was an earnest host and made sure we had everything we needed. He was hard at work in the morning preparing for the large group and raking the beach of all the fallen leaves. Although there is quite a bit of garbage by the baños, the palapa and waterfront is very clean.
We'd highly recommend coming here
instead of paying to stay at the waterfalls. Especially if you don't want to have to deal with pushy, begging children reaching into your windows and calling you Punta Gringos because you won't give them your money.

Came here for the low cost, it's a pretty spot. Asked for 30 upon arriving (2people 1 van) we said no more than 20 eventually agreed. Had the spot to ourselves on Friday but the lights were out. Pit toilets with an ants nest in at night but fine for the price. Hard to find with Google maps, it's not signposted if coming from Rio Dulce. it's the only road toward the lake which looks like a gated driveway to a house. pull up and they will open the gate!

Report Check-In

Super tranquil spot if you're looking for something with no frills. There is a pretty big palapa with working electricity too. It was really peaceful and the water in the lake was unusually warm too.

Nice quiet spot by the lake. Alejandro the caretaker was very nice. We got there in the late afternoon and left early in the morning and he charged us only for camping.
