Description

Beautiful camping at the edge. A small (6 houses) little fishing village down a rough road from El Rosario. Take a right off the 1 in Rosario when it turns a hard left. Go straight and then make another left a little ways down the dirt road. Follow the signs to Punta Baja. It's about 10 miles on the dirt road until you reach the town and then a small point. Eat a meal at Don Chuy's house/restaurant. Both Chuy and his wife, Beti, are great. Free to camp. There is a newer pit toilet right next to the house/restaurant.

Latest Check-Ins

Easy dirt road out. Recent storm damage so no camping on the beach. Bring everything you may need. Long walkable Beach to the southeast.
Very consistent surf spot, the point, the Panga Beach and down in the bay almost always has surf. Winds are usually soft offshore because of the points height.
It's a co-op so no buying fish off the boats.
The Road down to the west side of the beach is blocked off as of 9/8/22.
Pack it in, pack it out!

There are a several good spots around this short stretch overlooking Punta Baja Lighthouse to the north. Lots of dirt tracks, some are worst than others. We did just fine in our 2wd sprinter. Very windy, but managed to get a fun surf.

Camped just south of hotel Don Chuy, Don Chuy has bathrooms and is an incredible guy. Camping was free and beautiful, fun waves too. We gave Don 40 pesos to use the bathroom.

Spent the night at this beautiful, windy Punta. Drove just past the little fishing village to some land owned by Bento. Very friendly young man. He asks for 50 pesos to spend the night.
Great sunset/sunrise, walk down to the lonely beach.
No services and very windy night, awaken to beautiful views and calmer sea.

Took my overloaded KLR 650 down here, went down a couple side roads & dropped it a few times. main dirt road is good if you go slow. the point was extremely windy so I pushed all the glass & debris aside in one of the abandoned shacks and camped there. pretty, thou not much to do.

We planned to stay for many nights but the surf didn't deliver. Instead we camped for one night on these beautiful cliffs, which were fogged in and cool, a welcome respite from Baja heat. Many seals and birds to observe, and the quietest camping night we've had in a long time. Only about 30 minutes from town.

Don't attempt this road if rain is in forecast! Washed out, flooding, river roads and peanut butter mud! It's a nice little fishing village about 10-15 miles down the road. No services.

Stayed here for a night. We arrived a bit later than we hoped and had to find it in the dark. Once you pull into El Rosario you take a right where the highway makes a hard left. It's all dirt and sand roads from there. At first we passed a sign that said Punta Baja and failed to make the left turn. We wound up climbing a steep, rutted, washed out road that ultimately led to a cell tower. After backtracking we found the wide grated road to the village.

The people were very nice and welcoming despite showing up as the sun set. They made a last minute meal and told us to camp where we liked. The fishermen start showing up around 4:45 to begin loading boats into the water, which was hilarious to watch. I've never seen someone reverse as fast as possible and slam on the brakes to launch a boat.

Random road on the way to Punta Baja, exposed to the wind but well worth the view.
