ZAM->NAM
German passport, car with CdP
fastest border in Africa so far. Less than 1h in total. Only need to pay the Namibian road tax (371 N$ for us) nothing else.

Report Check-In

Easy exit from Namibia. Into Zambia, the border is now open 24 hours so was fairly quiet at 9:30 am on a Friday. A bit convoluted but very friendly and helpful officials. For our 6 ton truck we paid the same as friends did for their Land Cruiser. Interpol clearance 500Kw, 650 kw for insurance, 363 kw carbon tax, 20 USD for road tax, 50 kw as you leave the gate. Process took 2 hours. No need for fixers but watch the money changers and check the rate they give you . They changed from Namibian dollars and South African Rands no problem.

The information provided by  @Vermeulenrae is correct and upto date. It was very helpful as we crossed today. We paid our RFA by VISA. It's a hustle free border.

Proceed to RFA. Pd NAD337. for cross border charge permit. SA reg vehicle. Show this permit at gate and fill in book. Some officials were ok and others officious.

We used a tout in the hope to be faster. He told us 8,- US$, at the end he asked for 80,-! Better to do it on your own, easy border.

Travelling with a 5,5t camper, 2 adults from NAM to ZAM we payed:
Visa 25,- US$
Insurance 650,- ZMW
Road tax 20,- US$
Council fee 100,- ZMW (instead of 50,- because we are so big ;-)
Carbon tax 240,- ZMW

It took us 2 hours. Customs didn't look into our car. Nobody checked the reflection tapes you need in Zambia. Very friendly.
Directly after the gate, they sell SIM cards.

Entering Zam

Beware when paying USD. Immigration officer himself tried to shortchange my 100 USD note by 50 USD. Even the tourists behind me noticed.

If you drive a SA plate car, police registration is necessary, if not you have to pay 350 kwacha for one. Yes even if you have ALL the documents to prove that you are the owner of the car, the police check is necessary

Lots of persistent touts around. Very annoying border

Report Check-In

No Visa on Arrival at this border to cross from Zambia to Namibia, at least for a Vietnamese. The border controller said they only provide Visa on Arrival in two places: the main airport in Windhoek and the Kalihari border with Botswana. No eVisa too, so I had to go back to Lusaka, Zambia to get my visa.

Namibian Side
[  ] Complete form at immigration counter
[  ] Have road tax cert stamped out (green slip)
[  ] Leave and head for exit gate
[  ] Stop and fill book with name, engine date, passport no etc.

Zambian Side
[  ] Go to Health, provide covid pcr result, scan for temp. You're given a slip that's stamped
[  ] Go to immigration, they stand that form again and check your passport, where you're going, reason for travel etc. Pay Visa here if required by your passport. We didn't have to pay anything with Irish passport
[  ] Go to customs departure, through on the other side. They check all car details including cert and police clearance. If no police clearance one can issued for 278 kwatcha. Officer will inspect vehicle. Then go to customs office in the next building and they will take all certs and police clearance and go through it again.
[  ] Head back to the main building and go to customs arrivals. She will check and stamp all certs etc. Again. And passport. Paid KWA 330
[  ] Insurance, they check car certs and they issue insurance 3rd party disc and sticker for 90 days and covers all Zambia. Insurance is on the car not the person so anyone can drove the car
[  ] Road Tax, have to pay US dollars and no cars payment available. Exchanged with the fixers and had current rates googled and got good rates
[  ] Drive towards gate, pay KWA 50 and they check the reg plate again.
[  ] Drive to the next gate, park up and go to the booth, bring all car documentation that you had already including all new forms and stamped certs from immigration

KWA 278 police clearance
KWA 522 insurance 3rd party

N$3000 exchanged for Kwatcha at rate of 1:1.05
Had to then exchange KWA 550 for $20 US dollars, bad rate got caught

Turn left as soon as you passed the. Hate and find the the big building on Zambia side. I am traveling by motorbike with Carnet and a PCR test from Livingston. Enter Namibia, PCR test was checked and given a Visa at immigration with no fee ( unless he forgot to collect :).
Road tax $215 Namibian dollar.
Custom cleared my Carnet.
Both borders are very professional and efficient.

Traveling from Namibia to Zambia with 1 car and 2 adults. you need the following sequence:

1 health check (did not work)
2 immigrations (50 USD pp)
3 customs arrival register (275 kcha)
4 ensurance sticker on window (522 kcha for 90 days)
5 road registration and validation (free)
6  Interpol check (free)
7 customs end registrations (free)
8 roadtax (48 USD)
9 council fee (50 kcha)

the ensurance is not transparant I think I paid to much. The road true Zambia to Livingstone is terrible!!

it is better to go via Botswana to Livingstone.

Entering and exiting Namibia is easy. Just make sure you fill out an entrance/exit form before proceeding to immigration to have your passport stamped. There was a sign on the Namibian side the if your vehicle weighs more than 3.5T you must stop at the weigh bridge. Entering Zambia is a little more challenging as you run the crowd of shouting touts wanting to change your money/lead you around/watch your vehicle. (If you need to change money there is an Atlas Mara bank in the end of the next building to your left. They give market rate, but no longer have an ATM.) After entering the building labeled "Entrance for Arrivals" stop first at the counter on the left labeled "Health" for a temperature check, then cross the room to the immigration counters on the right. Our U.S. visas were $50 each. Then on to customs on the far left. They do accept carnets, and that facilitated the process. They are VERY SLOW at completing the paperwork (ours took over 1 hour). We paid 20 USD for the sliding scale road tax. (We're 8T.) It's mandatory to purchase their insurance (162k), even if you have Comesa. After paperwork get back in your vehicle. On your way out you must stop at a booth on the right and pay the 50k community council fee, then stop one more time just before the gate and take all your vehicle paperwork to the booth on the left for them to double-check it.

Easy border. We entered namibia on a TIP, they issue 14 days and you can extend in Tsumeb (or any other customs office, but Tsumeb is the first one after the strip according to the officer). No charges except the cross border fee of 309 nad.

For the visa validity: we got the exact amount of days we stated to the officer, not the maximum of 3 months.

I changed kwacha into namib dollar at the border and got a decent rate.

Got ripped off with third party insurance by African Grey who charged me 522Kwacha For 90 days whereas it should cost under 200Kwacha. They also said I could not purchase COMESA insurance anymore which is a lie. Rather visit Nico insurance in Livingstone and purchase the minimum third party st the border.

Traveling from Zambia to Namibia. German passports with Carnet.

First stamped out Passports and Carnet on Zambian site. No problem, no fees, done in seconds.

Then drove on to the Namibian site. Filled in a form, got our passports stamped and paid the road fee (VISA possible).

That's was it, totally easy! Done in 30 minutes!

We crossed this border by public transport(Nam$200,- pp) to see the Falls, left our car in Katima at the Protea Hotel(Nam$50,- pd secured parking).

Zambian side border crossing. Put your patient panties on and it's really not so bad. Don't change money with the Touts. There is an ATM and a bank inside. You will need max K275 - carbon tax, K750 -Third Party insurance, K30 - Council Levy and USD 20 - Road toll. They're friendly and you don't need a fixer. Just a long process.
