can access this wild spot from the scenic drive on grand canyon national park.
turn south down coconino road and drive till you see kaibab national forest signs. at first the road says no camping, but when you pass into national forest land it is fine.
a few other campers, several flat-ish spots, nice and quiet. great spot to stay while exploring the grand canyon.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Just drove in to stay and the roads are closed :( not sure if seasonal or another reason.
Report Check-Inplenty of dispersed camp sites here. road is a bit rough but I made it almost 2 miles back in a 26' long skoolie. found a spot and started backing in and the neighbor across the street came over and offered to share his fire so I parked there and the other spot remained open all night. no amenities anywhere but that's the point. definitely recommend
Report Check-InBeautiful flat camp spots. Quite bumpy coming in but do-able with my Sprinter. Great cellular reception. Nice an breezy. Recommended.
Report Check-InMuddy & very wet with snow melt & partially snow covered; turned in today but it did not feel accessible in my promaster! Going to lower / drier ground.
Report Check-InWe could access with our rv because the beginning of the road had major holes and water. I guess it rained not so long ago. Right now only for high clearance
Report Check-InBeautiful place to stay. We ended up being here for three nights. Very quiet, private, awesome sunsets and just a short drive to lots of trails.
Report Check-InStayed 2 nights here and it was a great experience! You can be tucked into the trees or closer to the road, whatever your prefer. We saw deer and horses during our stay. Had full Verizon service the whole time.
Report Check-InExcellent place to stay. Flat, quiet, clean… right near Grand Canyon. Strong Verizon service and fire rings.
Report Check-InCame in the winter. Road had a few inches of snow and was muddy in sections. We camped before the GPS location as the road got too soft. Nice and quiet.
Report Check-InQuiet and beautiful but the road was too slippery and muddy for our 25' 2WD rig. To be safe, you should have 4WD when it's like this in the winter.
Report Check-InExcellent spot 5 minutes from Grandview Point. Road was dry and fine for 2WD. Great cell signal and lots of tall trees.
Report Check-InYou can reach this spot from the nation park, located in the national forest. Fire pits, huge shady spots, vault toilets 10/10 spot
Report Check-InThis is a nice hideaway right off the South Rim road. Us and one camper were all that were in this area. 4-5 vehicles kept on going past us a good ways. Probably to another area like this. There’s a fire ring and picnic table at our site. Lots of flat spots.
Report Check-InGreat place to stay after stargazing at some of the more eastern lookout points in GCNP. Had great Verizon signal. Saw 2 others there, but it’s wide open with lots of room. A little muddy, but made it easily with 2WD. Overall, this is an ideal free and legal car camping spot 2 minutes outside the National Park.
Report Check-InVery nice and quiet spot. I only saw one other overlander go deeper in the forest but I didn’t. Maybe it’s because it had just snowed and temps are in the teens. But it was super quiet and relaxing. Amazing night sky! Awesome sunset and sunrise. Great Verizon Cell service!
Report Check-InMany campsites just off the road in National Forest land. Super close to grand canyon, easily accessible.
Report Check-InThis is where we dropped anchor for the night. Lots of spots available.
Road is still, technically, closed for the winter and a sign warning of the closure and dangerous conditions is in place just north of the National Park border. We’d hoped to make it to the Fire Tower, however the road is icy, wet, rutted and tricky. We opted to stay here rather than risk getting stuck.

The road was closed just before the first camping place, so I decided to turn around and find some other spot. The road until the closure was muddy and snowy and I had to use 4wd. I didn't know it's closed in winter.
Report Check-InGreat place if you want to watch the sunset at the Grand Canyon and then camp for the night, as it is right outside the park. Lots of other people with the same idea, but everyone was quiet. People were driving down the gravel road for a while after dark.
Report Check-InLess than 100 feet behind the GC NP bounderies. Lots of space, many fire rings.
Report Check-InGreat place to visit Grand Canyon! Lots of space, well situated.
We came, found a place....just one tent and a caravan were there when the other camping spot were said full!
Also not sure if it is pet friendly but I am here with my Akita Rocky. Will update if I learn anything.
Report Check-InNice camp areas right at the exit the canyon park. Also easy eat in if you have a pass. Road eas decent on the way in with some rough patches but nothing a 2wd couldn't handle. Very quiet except when a car leaves the park. Roaming on Sprint.
Report Check-InPerfect place to spend the night. Pulled up rather late in the night and to my surprise there were more than 6 other vehicles, RVs and tents. No disturbances and when we woke up and could see in the daylight it looked as though it was a common spot for campers. Man made fire rings all around
Report Check-Insneaky but legit spot where you can skip the queue to get into the park if you have a prepaid pass and aren't sleeping in the park. few others around. no cell or internet service. bit muddy in spots but great for the price, especially compared to what they charge in the park. very peaceful.
Report Check-InSlept here for one night, one other car + one RV. Used a firepit. Spots not so level but calm and quiet !
Report Check-InPerfect place if you want to see sunset or sunrise from Grand View Point. Even not 10min drive and right outside the NP boundary. On Kaibab National Forest Land there are several spots for dispersed camping right off the Coconino Rim Road in the light forest. Legal & free, just practice backcountry ethics.
Report Check-InSeveral nice spots, mostly surrounded by light forest, so not very sunny and thus potentially cold nights. Legal, quiet, free, easy access, great.
Report Check-Incan access this wild spot from the scenic drive on grand canyon national park.
turn south down coconino road and drive till you see kaibab national forest signs. at first the road says no camping, but when you pass into national forest land it is fine.
