Description

We purchased a propane adaptor here for use in Argentina. You will need to take them your tank so they can fit an adaptor to it. We weren’t sure if we needed an adaptor to fill our propane tank in Chile and Argentina but we went ahead and got it anyway for AR$20. This store also sells the necessary reflective stickers for campers/RVs. We were told we only needed a speed sticker (110 since we are a camioneta, other campers different) and red tape on the back. Longer rigs will need white or yellow on their sides.

Bought an adapter here to fit our US tank. Very nice guys that work here. 2000 pesos (~$5.50). They’ll ask for you to bring your tank into the store to see if it fits.

Very helpful. We bought an adapter for our small US-style portable tank for 219 pesos. We also wanted an adaptor for our fixed tank (also US-style) but we would have had to bring in the vehicle and the store was going to close for two weeks for vacation.

They said they aren’t charging anymore.
Preguntamos y nos dijeron que ya no cargan mas garrafas.

Really friendly knowledgeable guys at this store. They weren't able to help us with an adaptor for our fixed US tank but it turns out it's impossible for us to get a propane refill here in Salta anyway. All the marked spots on Ioverlander can't fill a fixed US tank as they need to be remove, fill and return the tank. Although the Vari Gas and Amarilla Gas plants have the large gas tankers on site (with the same connections) they refused as it's illegal to fill a fixed tank from a gas tanker in Argentina (only in the North it would appear and not the South where we had no issues 🙈) Hope this saves others from the wild Salta goose chase!

purchased an adapter here for my U.S. tank. 150 Pesos. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

They do not fill here, they sent us to Extingnort who were able to fill our US tank without having to use our adapter (we added Extingnort to iOverlander). Ocana sells butane cartridges for 100A each.

I went to the Varigas-plant south of Salta to fill up my European 5kg gasbottle. They couldn't fill it with my adapterset. I bought a different adapter at Ocana-gas for 120 pesos (about 6 dollar). They told me that they also fill bottles with propane gas (normally I buy butane gas because it's cheaper). They filled my bottle for 100 pesos a kg (about 5 dollar). Butane-gas at the Varigas-plant costs 200 pesos for 10 kg. You can park your car for free on the street here.

We bought an adapter for our 20lb U.S. propane tank plus some Teflon tape and electrical adapters for about 150 peso or around 10$ us. I did take the tank into the store. There was street parking outside for our Tundra with a pop up camper. We needed this adapter to fill up our tank at the Propane/fire extinguisher store. It all worked out fine. Be mindful of the stores closing from 12:30pm until 4pm or so.

A wide collection of adapters. We bought a couple to fill our South African bottles in Argentina and also a couple to fill our cylinder in fuel stations in Chile and Peru. Not the best quality, but cheap and doing the job.

adaptator for US tank: 42pesos

Report Check-In

We had them change the head of a Peruvian gas cylinder. Bad idea: this consisted of three different adaptor pieces screwed together. Because of the complexity they used some kind of glue. After the first fill up of the cylinder, this already started leaking.
