No evidence of a checkpoint here anymore, seemed like a regular intersection

Checkpoint only operates heading west. Not a problem but very thorough. Checked visas, vehicle papers etc. This whole road heading towards Villa Hermosa has a lot of checkpoints. We got stopped many times. So not drive this way if your papers are not in order

They had us go through the cargo truck lane, but we didn't get stopped. We were headed north from Palenque.

comes complete with a 5m high wall with razor wire. If you are heading south to Palenque ignore the sign saying turn left (towards an inspection) keep in the right lane and you will see a sign at the end telling you to turn right (The first sign pointing left is a trap.)

big checkpoint going to villahermosa. you will get stopped if you have tourist plates. But its just a routine control of the papers and passports. takes 3 minutes. no big deal

Drove by two times today, we were stopped two times as well. Different officers both really friendly, only took them 2 minutes to check our documents, look inside our van for a minute and give us some tips about visiting Chiapas 😉 really nice!

Bom lugar para passar a noite! Não é tão barulhento. Se você abastecer de combustível poderá ficar de graça. Estacionamos de frente ao hotel nos sentimos seguros e tivemos uma ótima noite. just drove through from Palenque to Eastern direction. nobody there. the checking facility is in this triangle of streets, didnt need to pass that... maybe they check only sometimes.

Going towards Mérida, just went through. Nobody stopped us at around 8:30am.

This is a big, permanent check facility. As a camper truck (6000kg Iveco Daily 4x4) they made us go through the commercial/HGV channel rather than the private vehicle lane. The guy was nice enough, checked papers, looked in the back, asked a few questions about how much beer and wine we have. Done.
