Description

The view from this point is superb.
We camped at this old campsite totally abandoned. We stay here few nights and nobody disturbs us. We really enjoyed to observe more than 20 whales in front of this point. So amazing.

There are a wild camp at the top a 2nd at the beach in bottom, and a 3rd at light House.

As described before.
Nice and quite. But u are not alone. The light house guard , and workers from the near by lodges are around early morning. We came in the dark and left early morning and spend the at the beautiful beach

Great place. Breezy. Much needed wind to cool down hot summer nights. Parked into wind. Friendly lighthouse guard. Lovely beach in front. No one disturbed and fisherman who passed only said hi. What more can you ask for.

We arrived late at 5pm and nobody was here asking for money. If you reach the Lighthouse turn left to the ruin and drive around it. We were here for two days and nobody disturbed us. Nice view and beach for swimming. We also could see whales. Not many people around here ... the way to this place is definitely 4x4 ... some deep sand passages. Vodacom internet was just ok but Movitel was superfast... fastest in whole Moz so far.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one night a week ago (see review below). This time around two cops came over in the late afternoon and asked us if we are going to camp. We have an Iveco daily 4x4 and at the time we had not opened the pop up roof yet. We tested the waters and said: we are watching the sunset. They said ok and left. The next morning the lighthouse supervisor arrived (the same gentleman I spoke with a week ago) with his mobile - the cop was on the line. He said we had to pay. We said ok, we will pay if we can get a receipt. He said he will send two guys we said fine. They arrived about 30 min later and said we need to pay the lighthouse supervisor/ guard. We said we are happy to pay if we can get a receipt. Which we knew was not going to happen. Fortunately everyone was friendly and polite. We had planned to leave anyway and said that we will pack up and leave. We insisted on meeting them at the police station to pay for the night’s camping. They then said ok and left. We went for a swim, packed up, gave the lighthouse supervisor extra food that we had and 200 MZN - he was very happy and we left. I am not sure what constitutes a bribe and what doesn’t but we do not believe in paying bribes. Having said that - I think if you want to stay here peacefully, speak to the lighthouse Supervisor upon arrival, if you have some extra food it will be appreciated and perhaps 200 MZN to thank him for the added security.

This was a fantastic place to wild camp. You can’t find better views. We arrived in the afternoon and there were two men who I think works at the lighthouse. We asked if it is ok if we “sleep in our car” all of this was gesticulated because I do not speak Portugese and they did not speak english. But they understood what I tried to explain and shook their heads “yes” with big smiles. No one distributed us and we felt very safe. Local people walked past the car, occasionally someone tried to sell us something but generally it was very peaceful. The beach is a couple of steps away and if you walk down to the beach and then about 300 meters towards the lodges there is a great pool bar called “chill beach bar” it’s great.

One of our favourite wild camping spots so far. Great view and you don’t get many locals coming by to try and sell you their things. Spoke to the lighthouse keeper and his friend when we arrived, they were very nice. 3 well behaved dogs followed us back from the beach and became our unofficial guard dogs for two days, if any locals came anywhere near us they’d get really aggressive towards them, was nice to have them their through the night

We asked around but did not find the supervisor. Seemed very nice stay on the lawn next to the lighthouse.
Security wise the opinions were contradicting. Some said not to worry at all , others sounded more alarmed. Anyway we went a bit back 500m on the road and stayed at mantanha lodge in a picturesque setting on sand with palmtrees.

Light House view excellent, the campsite is long and gone. We know this place very well. We Stopped to overnight, had a swim in warm water beach. A local speargun fisherman came to sell us fish. He advised to rather go to light house and to speak with' supervisor on overnight camping, his reason was that the "stealies whom are people that take advantage on holiday people might bother us in the middle of the night. The supervisor of lighthouse has gone home for a few weeks. We did not feel comfortable and left. Lighthouse is a beautiful spot. If supervisor was there we would have stayed for 2 to 3 days. Pity.. The next day the cyclone hit the area. Heavy winds and rain which lasted for 8 days. Everything happens for a reason
