Description

Parking on a grassy field with very little infrastructure (just two outhouses).

The owner-family is very friendly and will make you dinner if you ask. Apparently they are raising roosters for fighting.

To get there, you have to pay the entrance fee for the national monument ($ 3 per person) or just book a canyon tour (includes the fee). To stay overnight $5/vehicle/night.
*No one was here when we arrived. Paid $5/ per person to leave.

What a nice family! Claudia & Yovani Morazan and their 2 children will welcome you to their farm.
•They charge $25 per person to take the canyon tour and camping is included.
•They are building changing rooms for tourist who do the tours.
•1 pit toilet & we did not see a shower. We are self contained so didn’t matter. •They offer electricity close to the house and plan to get a long extension cord in the future.
•Lots of area to park we chose to be out by the newly planted trees; the grass is crunchy dry, some dog poop (they have 4 dogs and at least 2 cats).
•it’s not a perfect level area but we have blocks for that.
Highly recommend staying here and doing the tour ask Claudia to book with Eyder.

We arrived on the 5th after a long day of border crossings. Relaxed yesterday, learned all about their 200+ chickens and probably 25 roosters, several are prize fighters. We watched him working them out, cleaning & feeding. It is quite the business!
This morning Claudia had our guide Eyder meet us at the house; Yovani drove us up to the main road to the marked canyon trail. Honestly we didn’t know what to expect other than you will hike, get wet, take a boat and hike back to the house. It was incredible! 3.5 hours and swimming much of the way. In Switzerland they call it canyoning.
Claudia made lunch for us fried chicken, rice, fried plantains and a mixed salad of cooked potatoes, carrots and raw tomatoes with a boiled egg on top. 2 slices of feta style cheese.

Great place to relax for a few days after the border crossing. We stayed for 3 days and took the canyon tour with Claudia. 1 meal is included with each tour. good food. we liked the food so much, we ordered food from her the next day. free camping at the lot, if you take the tour with her. chickens are abit loud in the morning but it's ok for us.
we got free electricity and basic toilets. river is 100 meters away to cool down and clean off. highly recommend the place.
YOLO Family Vans.

Visited Somoto Canon and stayed with Claudia. She and her family were very warm and receptive. We asked for breakfast (100c) due to our arrival timing and was ready when we arrived. She arranged a $30, 5hr tour for us and our delicious lunch was included in the price of the tour.
The tour ended with the guide walking us directly from the river back to the property. Such a lovely full circle experience.
Basic showers (we opted to bathe in the river) and outdoor toilets.
Her family does raise roosters, so bring ear plugs. I had some and slept just fine.

it is a grassy field, nothing else, but the way is not realy made for big rigs, low hanging trees and steep, it is a poor village, no cars, so the way is partly tiny, walk before

Report Check-In

Not level and not quiet. Roosters and donkeys start their concert as early as 2AM. Good luck sleeping. There are also some dogs but luckily they did not bark much during the night.

It would have been wiser to check the other places before coming here.

Good spot for Starlink.

Excellent first stop after long border crossing. The family is extremely welcoming and nice. We did the canyon tour with them for $25 pp which includes life vests and awesome lunch afterwards (camping is free with tour for however many nights you want.) Nice spot for a few nights if you’re self contained. Toilet is basic; no shower, but river is very close by.

Report Check-In

This was a big area for our rig, road may not be ideal for bigger rigs but our van was no issue.
They were very friendly hosts and very affordable $5 for night. They told us how to access the river/canyon as we could not do a tour (have 3 dogs and to hot to leave) they can arrange yours though.
Unfortunately the river water was low due to season and I think a heavy rain would do it well. There was people set up to sell you drinks and snacks on the walk and multiple swimming holes (need rain/water).
If coming here for canyons or just for night pre border, I would recommend😃

As far as we know, there was cock fighting, free range chickens though so be careful LOL. We would not approve if there was.
Recommended, beautiful area and 10min walk to river

Report Check-In

We spent 1 night here before doing the canyon, very quiet and safe place, great welcome.

Nous avons passé 1 nuit ici avant de faire le canyon, endroit très calme et sûre, super accueil.

Report Check-In

Best place to camp when you want to visit the canyon. BTW: the 2 places "Parqueo Cañon de Somoto" and "Finca La Huerta" are identic! Very nice hosts, very tranquil and safe place! Highly recommended, especially when you're self contained. If you book a guide here (at standard prices) camping is free - even for a few days! Access with a truck of 3.40m hight was no problem! Claudia is a good cook - will serve you traditional dinners at around 4 USD/person.

Came to this place at dark. This place belongs to the family of the „finca la huerte“. Staying overnight is 5$ or 180 co. The access road has some steep sections but can be made by any vehicle. Just the height could be an issue for vehicles higher than about 3 m. Instead of making the canyon tour you can also walk to a viewpoint on the other side of the river (viewpoint and path are in maps.me).

Report Check-In

Wonderful place to stay with a beautiful view. Very nice hosts. No running water, no showers, but rustic toilets.
Attention the owners breed fighting cocks, so it can get a bit noisy at night ;)

If you book a tour, accommodation is included for a few days. Otherwise you can pay only for the overnight stay. We booked the "big" tour with guide for 35 dollars p.p. including a simple meal and overnight stay in the van. The guide was very nice, unfortunately the tour only lasted 3 hours and probably includes much more with other guides. We would recommend staying there overnight, but looking for your own guide.

Report Check-In

Nice grassy spot. Not so flat but you can find a decent spot. There are only pit toilets. The owners are very nice. They can organize you a canyon tour with a guide (recommended) for 25$ pP. If you book a tour the camping is free (all nights, we stayed two) and you get a yummy lunch for free.

We highly recommend the canyon tour but it’s better to book a guide. The guide shows you the best spots to jump into the river (1-20 meter spots). If you don’t get a guide you don’t know where the safe places to swim/jump are.

Report Check-In

Large grassed area, not much shade. Geovany and Claudia are great hosts and will welcome you and tell you about the country history. Claudia cooks nicaraguan typical dishes.
Very close to the river and the canyon. Buses with families come on weekends.
Payed 100 NIO per night.

Area grande con césped y poca sombra.

it's a really cool spot for $5/vehicle per night. pit toilet and bucket water available. the family is super nice and the mum cooked us an awesome meal for a good price and got some beers just for us. not super level, but alright.

Report Check-In

Ended up here late after a relatively "short" wait (4hrs) at immigration. We were redirected by Henry at the road and ended up paying $5usd/p but avoided the park entrance fee. Nice spot but not worth the price.

Report Check-In

very nice owners, helped us level the truck camper. Paid 100 cordobas. Close to the border. Dogs barked ALL night. Use ear plugs if you sleep there.

Report Check-In

We parked here and wanted to ask about camping, but on the way our puppy got attacked and bit by one of the dogs there so we left right away! We found a free camping place by the river (back to the main hwy and then take another road down to the river).

Report Check-In

Basic campground near the Cañon de Somoto. They organize tours to the canyon if you like. C$100

Lovely people in this community. Just about anybody will let you stay in their yard if you ask. Look especially for the guides houses. Btw I highly recommend a guide if you want to enjoy the whole canyon.
