Amazing valley with some hikes to do. Careful with the sun, and don't forget to drink water !
There's an automatic machine at the entrance where you can buy your tickets, but only by card.
No problem with our motorhome.

Report Check-In

Today we entered with our 3.5T 2WD motorhome and they didn't make any "complaints" of motorhomes entering, so maybe they had a great day, or we just had a great smile :)
About the roads I was pleasantly surprised. beginning to end is approx 11km and the road is on pretty good condition. I'll believe it will not hinder your pleasure here in any kind of vehicle!
For the rest I don't agree with overlander below, we did the sand dunes hike (both miradors, which gives you views we have not encountered anywhere around St Pedro for free. Unfortunately the Mountain pass (1st stop) was closed for renovation.
Take your time around the salt mines, especially at the second entry you will find diamond like salt pieces with immense sizes. Even if they asked 30k CLP for this park, would still have paid it!

We were allowed to enter The Valley with our “big rig”-motorhome. We have around 8 Tons. I asked at the entrance and the guard told me that they don’t want cars in The Valley in which you can live and cook. I told him that it is a motorhome and we can of course cook inside but he replied that it is then important to not throw any rubbish out. Well of course we don’t do that but it seems like they had bad experiences. How sad!

We paid the entrance fee at the guard station not online. 2 Adults 21k pesos our 5 year and 8 month old were free. You get a map and an introduction from a guard. Spanish or English.

Now to the Valley: if you already saw those moon landscapes in other parts of SA or the world and if you can travel individually, I think the high entrance fee is not worth it. I would rather drive around San Pedro to see nice salt sculptures. Also the cracking of the salt is better audible in other parts. Us reminded The Valley like a Disney park.

The Valley is very clean and you won’t find rubbish anywhere. A lot of guards are waiting at the different estacionamientos and can give you additional informations. So they do invest the high entrance fee quite well.

But again you can get this elsewhere around this area and without lot of tourist and an entrance fee.

Driving with our own car is possible. Price update: 10,800 clp (2023.07)

Report Check-In

We could drive through the valle de la luna with our motorhome. Regulations see photo!

Report Check-In

Note that now it is not allowed to access to the moon valley with a motorhome or Big rigs. Nothing more bigger than a Mercedes Sprinter.... Motorhomes are not welcomed in Atacama

Report Check-In

Price is now 10500 per person, we bought the ticket on place at 09h but it's open from 08h.

Report Check-In

Purchase tickets online before hand. It may be possible to buy in person, not sure. We entered at 14:20pm, no problem. The coyote mirador closes at 18:45.

Report Check-In

Price is now 10,800 and only available online from puntoticket.com. Search “Valle de la Puna”. Includes the mirador ticket now. Additionally, many of the points of interest are now closed. Probably still worth it. You came all the way to San Pedro, no? But certainly hurts knowing it used to cost 2500 with more available to see.

Report Check-In

Closed for unknown reasons (not covid) for year already. Guarded.

Beautiful landscapes and well worth visiting. We had rain 3 days in a row (yes, in the dryest desert in the world!). Because of thunderstorm and lightning we were denied the entry on the first day. On day two we could only see the duna mayor before they sent us bakc out again. Only on the third day we could visit the whole park and the viewpoint (direction Calama). Our ticket we bought on the first day was revalidated twice without discussion. Very friendly staff and worth the money.

Report Check-In

ROBBERY! Someone broke into our van which was parked at mirador estacionamento and wipe off everything we have while we were having a walk to mirador.

Report Check-In

If you want to visit with you car in only before 1pm for 2500pp or if you want to see the sunset too there you have to book in the morning and come back for 5.30pm for 3000pp

Report Check-In

We can visit it in the afternoon whitout agency. We arrived at 12.30 pm and she tell me that we can visit at 17.30 pm but it's more expensive (3000 CLP) than on the morning (2500 CLP). So we had lunch in San Pedro and came back at 17 pm (the good timing to have time to visit park and then to be on time for the sunset). I guess there are limited tickets for same time visit and if you come in the afternoon, they are all already sold. So you have to buy it before.

Report Check-In

Actually you can visit Valle de la Luna after 1pm without an agency if you bought the entrance ticket the day before (preferably in the morning).

Report Check-In

Entry still only between 9-1pm. 2500pp or 2000 if you’re a student (but only if you have your card).

Report Check-In

You are only allowed to go in by car between 8am and 1pm. In the afternoon there are only tour operators allowed.

Report Check-In

For cyclist: you can leave your panniers in one of the rooms of the ticket office.
There is also a free shower (bit cold today but it was hot so we didn't mind) if you dare to enter (only for staff). Near the toilets.
Water in the toilets is awful to drink, but you can ask staff (they are not really friendly but second girl agreed to help).
We could also charge our powerbanks so 2500 peso entrance was really worth it if you wildcamp in San Pedro :)

Report Check-In

entrance 9:00 _ 13:00 aldults 2500 pchl children 2000 pchl.
afternoon reserved to turist agency. (more expensive).
Magnific place.
recomended

Report Check-In

In the afternoon, only tours are allowed in.

Report Check-In

Careful: you cannot enter by own vehicle in the afternoon, only in the morning until 1 Pm. We came at 3 Pm with our motorcycle and couldn’t enter. :-S

Report Check-In

This fuckers do not allow to go in the park for the sunset, with the own car anymore. Just allowed to enter the park between 9am and 1pm. They say it’s because of to much cars in the evening, but actually the only way now to go inside for the sunset is with booking a expensive tour. It has a hard smell of corruption there.
We went to Valle de la Muerte instead and had a cheaper and also amazing sunset.

Report Check-In

You can enter with cars or bikes only from 9.00 till 13.00 (but can stay longer). Entrance 3000 adults. Sunset watching is from another spot - lookout Stone of Coyote (you can find it on maps.me)

Report Check-In

same price but with your own vehicule the entrance is only between 9 and 13. maybe only in summer time ?

Report Check-In

We came here as individual traveller's to see the sunset at Valle de la Luna. But the officials at the gate told us, for sunset only tour operators and their clients would be allowed to get in. Only in the morning the park is open for individual traveller's. Unbelievable!!!

Report Check-In

Entrance before 13:00 for private visits (bike, car or foot). Closed 13:00 to 14:00 for lunch. 14:00 onwards only accepting tour groups. However, your private morning ticket still allows you to see the sunset at one of the more northern points of the park. Maps and guidance available in Spanish, English and Portuguese (not sure about others). Morning tickets 2500CLP pp.

I’m very sceptical of more touristy places, preferring to hike off in the opposite direction, but this place is sensational. The Duna Mayor walk (~20min one way) and the Achaches Mirador ridge walk (~30min one way) are unreal. Get there early so it isn’t too hot or crowded, after 11:30 the heat was a bit much for me.

Report Check-In

You can enter the Valle until 18:30, but you can stay until sunset.
