Description

Pretty huge river crossing we didn't want to chance in our midsize SUV so we turned around. Just a guess- but probably 3 ft at it's deepest, 50 ft long (?) You could see the ruts in the water.

the river was just a small stream going underneath the road, therefore no river crossing needed. the water was clear and not salty and didn't taste bad. we took some and filtered it for cooking.

Report Check-In

Not a sign of a river at the end of the dry season.

Report Check-In

Absolutely fine for bicycles. It's easy to cross on the lumps of moss. There is no moving water. Just one part that is permanently at least 40cm deep. The warning only applies to vehicles that don't have a high clearance.

50cm of water in the river today also. Around 10m long. River bed was full of wild llamas. Beautiful. If coming or going to the western Lagunas route, there is nothing more difficult here then anything else underway. Around 10km of slow speed driving because of rocks on the road. No other cars and gorgeous views. If you have the car for it, no need to avoid this route because of negative comments here.

Just for information, around 50cm of water at this time of the year (rainy season). Lovely place and we did not met any tour 4wd on this road.

crossed this morning alone with my motorcycle, it was about 50cm deep, but with a lot of mud and rocks in the bottom. I was worried at first, but things worked out easier than I was thinking.

btw: what a beautiful place!

I have to admit I was a little worried from the description, and I travel in a Tacoma 4x4 with a snorkle - 3 feet? At that point I might be floating, loosing all traction and bad things can happen.
It was 38cm / 1'3" at the deepest spot when I crossed and from the description of people who actually went through it sounds it doesn't really get much deeper than that.
That said, it might still be too much for some vans or some comfort levels. Take it slow and be carful out there my friends!

At the end of the dry season it was not really a big thing. Maybe 40cm deep and 5 to 7 meters wide. Hard ground in the river.

River crossing was not wide when we passed, but was deep at about 2 feet... I stupidly decided to take a shallower track on the north side (to the right when coming from Uyuni / San Cristobal) and got stuck up to the bumper in thick, sticky mud... We were traveling solo and spent about 30 minutes trying to get unstuck before a tour group came through and helped me out of a jam. Don't repeat my mistake, hah. Stick to the main track which is deep but heavily compacted from traffic.

Cutting the Corner from San cristobal to Laguna Honda along this route is pretty rough and slow going past the river crossing. The positive is that you skip the toll.
The river crossing- the river was probably 2 feet deep when we were here. We were able to drive through but we walked it out first and we used 4wheel drive. The ground under the water seems to be solid. Driver discretion advised.

Passei de moto em janeiro de 2013, tivemos que procurar uma opcao na lateral para conseguir passar.
