This is the visitor and information center of CONAF for the Pan de Azucar National Park. Here you get information about the area and you can pay the entrance fee of CHP5.000 pp. <- price increased to 10000 pp.
If you have the anual pass for the Chilean National Parks (see i.e. iOverlander entry in Copiapo) the entrance to the park is free. <— there is no National Park pass anymore.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Now 10.000 chilenian pesos p. P. (foreigners). you can only book online, like the other national parks in Chile
Report Check-InThe price is now 7000 CLP p/p.
Good Informations from the park ranger, very friendly.
For those looking for the “Copiapó” entry, you can find it under the camera icon towards the northwest of Copiapó, however the last few entries basically say that there has been no national park pass for the last couple of years and to check for updates at www.conaf.cl or in Santiago. It may be available for purchase online at some point. It previously cost 10,000clp and did not include Torres del Paine, Rapa Nui and ... something else...
Report Check-InEntry fee is still 5000 clp/adult. Park ranger did have change for a 20.000 clp note, but ymmv of course. Some information about local history and flora and fauna also available. Toilets too. Ranger very friendly and spoke a little bit of English.
In low season, you can also ask for the key to the gate at El Mirador here if you travel with someone with limited mobility. That way you can drive the 2.5km up to the lookout.
Report Check-InMake sure you bring the right amount of money. When we were there, they didn't have anything for exchange!
