Description

A beautiful Patagonian town but lacks a good overland camping spot. The free campgrounds “Campamento Confluencia” and “Camping Libre Madsen” no longer allow overnight campers. We looked at 3 private campgrounds in town, all were pretty much the same and exposed. Relincho was central, had electricity and a spacious common room. Other’s have stayed at the trailhead parking lot north of town, but it is even more exposed than the campsites.. We ended up sleeping in our two person tent. At 4AM one tent pole snapped and ripped through our rain cover. Even if you think you’re wind-proof, you’ll sleep like a sailor on rough seas. Really bad internet!!!!
Not wind sheltered at all.

Stayed here for two nights. Busy campsite, but that’s El Chalten. Everything is okay and works. Wifi is bad (only for Whatsapp)

Report Check-In

I've visited this camping in january and it was a great experience. It's a little bit expensive than other campings but it has the best showers, bathrooms, and kitchen. If you are in the administration you'll have wifi connection but avoid the central time because the network collapses. Everyone is so nice, you can ask them anything and they will help you with a smile. I loved El Chalten, is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Make sure the weather is going to be aproppiate to do your hikes, and enoy it!

(Don't miss "Laguna de los tres", it's difficult but it's completley worthy!)

Report Check-In

large and somewhat crowded campsite. To few toilets and showers and at rush hours full, warm and not very clean. 10.000 pesos pp and 3.000 for a car. When you pay cash 8.000 pp.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for 2 nights. Although there were a lot of campers, it was ok, also at night. Good showers with hot water but not a lot of space to put your stuff. The dressing room is shared with other people.

Report Check-In

Very big campsite, a bit crowded but so are a lot of campsites in El Chalten. Kitchen is clean, seating area a bit small for that many people. Showers are the best we've had so far!

Report Check-In

Large campsite, very good location, common room where you can cook, sanitary facilities ok. Lots of people, quite close together.

Report Check-In

Big, well organized campsite. Central located, spacious, great showers, good places for tents, big kitchen, comfy common space with lot of device loading places. International travelers vibe. Worked perfectly fine for me. Only thing that sucks is the wifi.

Report Check-In

8.500 ppn, some wind protection, clean bathroom, internet is really bad/not usable

Report Check-In

Great camping with a big common area and big kitchen where you can easily cook with multiple people. Showers (hot water) and toilets were very clean. Would definitely recommend this camping!

Report Check-In

Yes, the facilities and staff are great. But for our taste it is a victim of its own success. People who like a quiet site with an outdoor sleep cycle (going to bed and waking up early) might have a tough time. Already very busy early december. And when its busy, its gets more likely you encounter people with different habits. It feels like an open air hostel. It happened to us twice that others arrive late (at 23:00) and pitch their tent next to us, slamming car doors and excitingly talking about their arrival until past midnight.

Report Check-In

very good camping with a nice hot shower and good common kitchen. would recommend going here.

Report Check-In

Camping with a hostel atmosphere. The managers are cool. The pitches are not demarcated and not separated from other campers and the wifi is terrible, same in El Chaltén , the two downside for me. The common sanitary facilities are neat and new. Rather central. 13,000 pesos in cash

Report Check-In

the best place in town for motorhome and tents. clean and heated bath and toilets.
absolutly worth the price ( 6000 ppn cash, 7000 ppn cards).

Report Check-In

nice place, very good and clean showers. large commen room with kitchen.

Report Check-In

Went just for a shower which was amazing! Clean, full pressure and really hot. Paid 3000 pp (3usd)

Report Check-In

Update of the prices. Today it was 6500pesos per person + 1500 for a motor home. 1000 for a car. We did not stay here but came here to have a shower. Price for shower was 2500 pesos per person. Very nice facilities, clean, very hot water.

Report Check-In

I stayed in this place for a week. What a place!!!!! great great showers, a common area warm, a good kitchen. The only thing is the kitchhen doesn´t have pots and stuff like that.
All the people who said is expensive are mice!!! now the rate with a credit card is near to the dollar blue!! So per two people 5600 pesos is like 15 usd, for this kind of camping is just price!

Report Check-In

Really nice campground. Lots of space, close to restaurants and hikes, Wifi is good. Common area in main building (kitchen, dining) really nice. Showers hot and ok but basic and a bit moldy. There are only four showers though (8 total woman+man) for the entire campground so I guess this would a problem during high season. Payed 6100 for car+2 people.

Report Check-In

Schöner Campingplatz. Alles vorhanden. Sauber. Sogar Küchbenutzung. 6200$

Report Check-In

stayed here 1 night after completing the huemul circuit. clean bathrooms and good pressure hot showers. busy campsite but not overcrowded this time of year. good indoor common area facilities and big kitchen if weather bad outside. 6100 for 2 people and campervan

Report Check-In

Good spot for our larger motorhome. Easily walk to everything in town, market near by, access to trails. Many nice flat spots, decent wind protection, has sewer to dump waste water and many hoses to fill with fresh water. Spots have plug ins for electricity. Very clean bathrooms and good strong hot showers, the place is very well maintained. As others mentioned the only downside is that it’s expensive (currently 2500 pp plus 600 for campervan; younger children half price)

Report Check-In

Terrible WiFi, rude lady at reception, flooded camping area, sterile office-like common area, rules, rules rules. Not nice atmosphere. Paid 6100 ARS for 2 plus car.

Report Check-In

Very popular place even when not in peak season. The facilities here are very good. It’s got space for truck campers and can likely fit bigger rigs. If you’re there in high season there’s no way you’ll get a spot so see about booking in advance if possible.

Report Check-In

2800 pesos p.p.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

capitalist campground. 100 tents and and only 8 toilets. should be illegal to have so many people with so few toilets cost 2500 at height of holidays in January

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

We came and based on what we saw… we left! It’s a right zoo in there right now, super busy there is about 2 meters between tents and at least 70 tents cramped in this grassy field. No real wind shelter, no privacy and people crawling on top of each other everywhere. We chose to head out of town to find some peace and shelter from the wind, we found that at Bonanza 10kms to the north…

Report Check-In

Nice campsite, imho the only one in town that are good for campervans. Quite expensive though, 2500 ppn plus 300 per car. Managed very strict, with checkout times (10 am!) and daily changing codes for the showers. Bathrooms are clean, showers hot and unlimited. WiFi exists but is not usable as everywhere in El Chalten. The place is very busy at high season, but that's due to the lack of alternatives...

Report Check-In

The structure is good, there is a collective kitchen, bathrooms, showers, ok. But the internet connection is extremely bad, sometimes they don't even send texts through Whatsapp and it seems that they receive more people than the camping can accommodate, and that makes the bathrooms and showers insufficient... Maybe it's easier for those who have a motorhome, just park and use your own structure, but after all, why do we pay? It costs 2,500 ARS per person and another 300 ARS for the car. But think carefully before spending, research the options in the region!

Report Check-In

2500 pp + 300 for a vehicle! Perhaps the prices jumped in December for high season. We didn’t stay, but it’s the nicest looking paid place in town. The wifi password is posted openly in the reception.

Report Check-In

Good shower, Expensive.
Peso 2500 pp. and 300 car. After 10 am leaving you pay half a day.
Nextdoor Refugio is cheaper, more windshelter trees 1500 pp no car.

Report Check-In

Nice camping: kitchen, common area and showers are great, and with very warm water. A little expensive for Argentina (2500 ppn + 300 for the vehicle), but fairly priced considering the amenities. Note: the grassy field for tents is very windy!

Report Check-In

The price is now 2500pp if you have a tent

Report Check-In

Very good camping in the middle of town. Walking distance to the trailheads. Common room is amazing: warm, big, clean, great kitchen. Same for toilets and best hot water showers. You can't rely on the wifi, but that is everywhere in town. Not the best wind shelter.

Report Check-In

A great campsite! We stayed for several nights while based in El Chalten, 2,200 pesos per person per night and 400 for the van.

There’s no doubt this is the best shower we’ve had in South America (including some air bnbs!) The water is hot and the toilets are clean and have toilet roll! There’s a shared common area and kitchen which are great, especially in the wind and rain. They can get a little full if the campsite is busy but everyone is friendly.

The location is great, you can walk to all the shops and bars, the trail heads and the climbing.

The wifi was average while we were here and would often drop out for hours at a time but I think that’s just Patagonia.

This is definitely a great campsite base for exploring El Chalten!

Report Check-In

really nice camping. Stayed for 4 nights. common room and kitchen are great! Friendly staff and a really really good shower. Wifi worked really well. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Report Check-In

Great campsite, best shower in months. Wifi works throughout the camp ground for me. Some attempt at wind protection with slated fencing, but not much use for a roof tent. We used our little hiking tent when it was really windy. 2000 pp + 200 for a car or 400 for a motor home.

Report Check-In

Really nice campsite. The field is quit open, but nice view at the mountains. Nice shared dining room and kitchen open for all campers. Clean! Really nice shower, best we had in 7 weeks (even better than at home;) Price: 2000 ppp and 200 for the van

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Stayed here for two nights to enjoy the beautiful national park. Good place to stay with a camper, with a tent maybe look for another place since there is nearly no wind protection! Wasn't packed when we stayed, but the kitchen and the heated dinning area where at the brink. So better if you're able to cook in your car. Spotless bathrooms and shower are pure luxury after a long day of hiking in the strong winds. Internet nearly disfunctional. Price went up 11.2$ per person (1200 pesos) plus 3.7$ (400 pesos) for the van.

Report Check-In

We stayed one night at this big camping in El Chalten. It has the best showers we had so far in Argentina and a big, modern, light and friendly cooking and dining room. For tents there is only limited shelter (wooden fences), for campers it is perfect. It cost us 2200 pesos for one night (two persons, little camper).

Report Check-In

To add to previous comment...if you pay in cash, it is 1100 pesos per person. This place was super-crowded on a Thursday and Friday night in January. There is a sanitation dump station here!!! This is only the second one we have seen in 18 months travelling in South America.

Covid update - we stayed 5 nights and very few people here. Bathrooms clean and very hot water and strong water pressure. Electricity at sites. Internet only at the reception. Water faucets in the motorhome area. Friendly staff told us that in a normal year this place is packed full of camper vans, (300 people at one time last year, he said!) so maybe it gets loud but it was very quiet when we were here - we were the only camper one night! 700 pesos per person. //

it's a very nice place, with a big park to camp, little wind protection though. Common area it's nice, and has many places to charge cellphones. the shower's are small but hot. 450pesos ppn in cash, or 500 with card. It has place for campers.

Report Check-In

We loved the place. Huge green space, hot and strong showers, regular cleaning, warm and stylish common area, big kitchen. Main drawback - gets VERY busy sometimes, but you can consider it lively :) At the moment 500 per person per night (450 in efectivo), plus 200 per car. Estacionamiento (eg while you're trekking) also 200 per night. Bag locker 50 for small bag 100 for big.

Facilities are good. Price is really high. WiFi won’t work most of the time, but this will be all over chalten.

Report Check-In

We stayed 4 nights. Very nice and new facilities. Spacious common room and kitchen with stoves and ovens. Very clean bathrooms with great hot showers. Electricity at some sites. Not a lot of Wind shelter despite a fence and pricey compared to others. We paid 500 pesos pp plus 300 pesos for the car. But we wanted electricity for heating and it was worth it. Staff was very friendly, too.

Report Check-In

Absolutely TONS of overlanders here. WiFi did not work (probably too many people on it) and the price is 200pesos for the van plus 500pesos/person (or 450 if you pay in cash). We did not stay

Great hospitality from the guy. Very friendly and helpful. Protection from the wind can better but it will do. Very good and hot showers. Big common area with a great and big kitchen. WiFi is slow but doable. Nice music from the laptop playing and not that loud. We stayed here for 3 nights with a motorhome and paid 900 per night.

We did not stay here but we did pay to use the showers. They have a big Field for camping but it's extremely expensive AR$120 for car + $280/person. Instead we just paid $125/person to use the showers which were super nice, clean, and hot. The guy behind the counter wasn't very friendly either but again, the shower was hot and affordable!

Report Check-In

We paid 280 pp and 120 p car. Its cheaper if you pay cash(250/100) There are not so many places with electricity in sites. Bathrooms are ok with hot water all day.
Kitchen is ok and there are many tables and sockets to connect the phone. WiFi is really bad!!! If you have an iPhone, you probably will not be able to connect.
It’s really crowded and they play high music. There is a supermarket just in front but is kind of expensive.

Report Check-In

Good campground with clean bathrooms. Good kitchen with gas but no pan/plate available to cook, you should bring everything. Common area a bit busy. Portable water. 260 pesos/pers. Wifi not good. Can let your bag for trekking for 50 pesos/night.

Report Check-In

Okay campsite. 280 pp, credit card or 250 pp cash. Flat areas for tents but quite windy. Kitchen with gas hobs but you need your own equipment. Kitchen/bathrooms could be cleaner. Only major downside staff like to play very loud (not always enjoyable) music in common area. And wifi barely works at tent but definitely not in common area.

Big campsite, a lot of space. The kitchen is a bit overcrowded, in the season, probably, hard to squeeze in. There were three stoves, and the big one has only one spot working.
Wifi was working but the connection was slow.
Toilets and showers need renovation but water is hot.
Chose this because didnt like all other campsites, although consider overpriced.

Crowded camping at the end of town, but you can take a less crowded spot at camping enterance. No good wifi, showers/toilets are ok. Clean them atleast 2 times a day. Busy kitchen, but not always, only on rainy days... baggagestorage is free and really good if you re doing multiple day hikes. 150 peso pp with tent.

150 each. Toilets in very poor condition. Bring your own tp and hold your nose. No water pressure after one minute in shower. Shower ok next time but nobody else was showering. You will want to rinse your feet with bleach afterwards. Grassy area for camping nice.Easy to walk to town and trails. More spacious than other town options. (laundry next to burger place shrank everything.)

Report Check-In

Huge area for tents and vehicles, very nice big communal lounge and kitchen with gas, good bathroom and shower block. Wifi ok only in communal building. $150ARS per person per night (in a tent)

Report Check-In

Awesome place . Great bathrooms .. hot showers clean. They do have wifi . Common clean kitchen. If you plan to stay in city it's a great place to camp. Good for medium rigs ( truck camper ). 150 pp and 50 for the rig. They accept dollars and arg pesos. There is a common room ( heated) which is great to socialize. There are no good over landing spots in el chalten city. This is the best. We checked other places and they were dumps( even the ones mentioned here ). Got a rig and want to stay in city stay here. All hikes start from city anyways and you do need a hot shower and and place to protect you from wind and bad weather when you get back.

Report Check-In

Large grassy campground with some shields for wind shelter. Ablutions and electricity supply ok, but prohably insufficient in high season. Nice common room and kitchen. Walking distance to village. No wifi. Expensive: ARG 300 (2 adults, camper)

Report Check-In

Probably the best looking campsite with a nice common area and grassfield, but probably the worst deal you can make in Argentina during high season... We paid 120 per person and 60 for the car and got a spot without any facilities. On a relatively large area there are only a couple of trees, windbreaks and electricity hookups. There is no wifi, no fire pits, no picknick tables, no water taps. There were about 200 guests and very few facilities: so queues for everything (even filling a bottle of water or doing your dishes) and often cold showers. Toilets and showers were often broken or flooded and dirty (though cleaning was done at least twice per day). Even knowing everything in El Chalten is more expensive and camping with cars/motorhomes is not possible on all campsites (there are more than iOverland shows!), we would not recommend this one..

Report Check-In

Nice camping spot - we paid 120 per person per night. Very helpful staff - you can buy bustickets to Calafate etc. from the camping info desk. Quiet at night, kitchen (although it can be crowded), hot showers, big house for eating your food inside. Very recomendable.

CLP 120 per person and night. Their horse-riding excursions (4 hours incl. shuttle transfer) at Estancia Bonanza are worth the CLP 850. They accept and change USDs, however, sometimes below the official rate.

Report Check-In

nice campsite but very expensive, 120pp + you need to pay an additional 70 for camionetas or 80 for camiones person. hot water and a kitchen. no wifi.

We camped here for convenience to be in town for one night as we needed to do laundry. There are four laundries to choose from in town. There is a great bar/ restaurant opposite the entrance to the campground serving good beer. The spaces are quite tight where you park up against the fence to hook up for power. Windy of course! The common room kitchen was very busy and a bit untidy and the showers like all camp showers in Argentina are in need of some attention but plenty of hot water. We paid AP300 for two + vehicle.

Really only place in town for car campers with wind breaks and space. Free area by trailhead is very exposed to the wind which is powerful here. 80 pesos per person plus 30 for a car, or 15 per motor bike. Indoor kitchen and refrigerator available. Lots of backpackers here. Lots....wind breaks are only about 8 feet, we were much higher than the wind break, so we did not get much sleep, too windy. Music played all night from a near by bar on Friday that you could hear from the upper camping area.

Huge campground in the middle of town. Grassy areas with power and water. Very windy. The best spots regarding wind and noise are in the upper level. Common kitchen (filthy!) and bathrooms with hot showers (24h). We paid 80 pesos per person plus 30 pesos for the truck.

Big campground with a really nice common area & good showers. Unfortunately, bathrooms & kitchen (well equipped) weren't really clean, but the showers are great anyway. 80 ARG pP, 15 ARG per motorbike (20 ARG per car).

AR$35 per person, AR$10 for car/elec.
