Sweet little island that feels more secluded than some of the other islands around here. Small enough to give you the middle of the Salar feel, but big enough to shield the wind and give you a place to poop. Named after me, Ford. My island. Me gusta.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
We spend the night close to the island and could do the 1min walk to see the sunset from the top. Nice little island, but unfortunately lots of toilet papers (keep it with your trash). We were totally alone. Better to park on the north side as there is a "road" on the other side (but very few cars anyway).
Report Check-InI spent the night on the island. The views from the top are amazing, and the feeling of loneliness is really deep. I can listen the cars pass near the island all night long but nobody bother me.
Report Check-InA cute island, lovely place to spend the afternoon and take silly photos. We were moved on though at about 5pm by a guy who said it was prohibited to camp there, and that it's only allowed by Incahuasi island.
Report Check-InGood place to get the remoteness feeling. One car passed by in the evening and one in the morning. In between total silence and endless views into emptiness. You can make a nice 360 from the top.
Report Check-InFord was nowhere to be seen so we conquered this island for ourselves.. but felt to guilty to rename it! Park on the north side for an amazing sunrise over the flats if you'r early birds (we just opened our boot and watched it from our sleeping bags then snoozed again), plus there's a wind barrier and an easy way onto the island here if you need to mark your territory ;-)
Report Check-Inthanks man! this is the most epic location in Salar. I scouted other islands as well but stopped here as soon as I saw this. some amazing people had left 4 hours worth of wood too. I had an epic night all by myself.
Report Check-InYes it is a nice island with a good shelter bay. However we were very disappointed by all of the unburied human excrement and toilet paper found just about everywhere. As overlanders we should all hold ourselves to higher standards when it comes to respecting the places we call home for a night.
Report Check-InGreat island! Perfect for wind shelter and seclusion. THANKS FORD! We had a great night here. Trod carefully but no poo seen.
On a negative note there were some bin bags of rubbish emptied and bottles left here. We tidied them up, but on the off chance the people who left them there are reading this- I hope you’re ashamed of yourself. PREACH
Report Check-InWe tucked into the bay as a crazy storm came past, lucky the island is higher than us we could see where the lightening struck 100m from us! Terrifying storm, perfect island.
Report Check-InTHE PLACE to stay on the Salar! Perfect wind protection and a short walk from the island the salt honeycombs are as white and pristine as they come. We didn’t see anyone for days!!!
Report Check-InThe island has a first name,
it's T-i-g-g-r.
The island has a second name,
it's F-o-r-r-d.
Oh we love to visit it every day
And if you ask me why I'll say
Cause The Salar has such a way with lovely views.
No tours come here!
Thanks Ford.
As the current drivers of Fords car, we had to stop by. Fun salt flat jaunt to get out here. Guaranteed solitude and no tour groups. Cactus, rocks, a 360 view of the salt flats, and a 30 second hike to the summit - what more could you want from an island in the Salar? We did not notice any lingering smells from Ford
Report Check-InNice place to camp and be protected of the winds on evening. But be careful with the “mutant” ants, is no to much but in 5 minutes will be all around you, and they bite really strong.
Report Check-InThis is the only place we found who is covered from the strong wind in the evening. Nice place to see sunset and sunrise on the Salar. Thank you!
