Something not right?

Description

Lots of bugs but not too bitey. The riverside campsite is tranquil, but don't swim in it, we paddled our kayak down stream a little and the water is super polluted. We were told hot showers, but they didn't work, so shower during the day before it gets too cold.

Price: GTQ 75

This is a private ecological reserve, with hiking paths, a river, cabañas for 2 or up to 7 people, swimming pool all set in nice garden. Camping is an afterthought: basically one spot for vehicles, some more for tents. Distance to bathrooms considerable, no warm shower, no WiFi.

At GTQ 75 per person, this would be nice early in a hot summer afternoon: take a swim, eat a meal and stay. Just for one winter's night, it's too much. "those are the tariffs, and we won't negotiate". We left.

Just arrived and were told camping in our small van is not possible as the car cannot reach the campground. I believe it is for tent camping only.

It’s a quite fancy place in a beautiful natural setting. There now is a nice swimming pool overlooking the river. The sanitary facilities are spotless clean but still there are cold showers only. With a small or midsize rig you can drive down to the river where you’ll find a nice place to camp with your private palapa, which comes complete with a table and chairs, a hammock, light and power outlets, a water tap and a BBQ. Still no Wi-Fi but Claro 3G 3 bars. It’s a steep Q75 pppn now.

Good for us for one night, we got a late start and found ourselves driving at night in a rainstorm. Our original destination was the quetzal park but they close the gates at 4pm.... at first this didn't look open but when we got out to investigate someone came and opened the gate. We literally used this as a safe place to sleep, there were toilets but it was a far walk and the guy didn't mention any showers. It did smell like pine trees we wanted to try and have a quetzal sighting so we left super early in the morning, we didn't look around.

Very nice campsite on the river. We were able to drive our motorcycle down to the river and set up our hammock tent in the trees. There is a covered patio with table and chairs. Flush toilet, and looks like a cold shower. Vans and big rigs likely can’t drive down to the river and have to stay at upper lot. 40q pp. Noise from the highway was not an issue for us. They have a few nice wood cabins looking over the river, not sure on the price.

kokopelli-roadtrip: very nice place direct on the way to Guatemala City (Hgw 14). you can park with your camper behind the restaurant on a grassy area. 40 Qtz.pp. not for big rigs. little walk to the "hidden" River. looks bit like Canada. as described pine trees smell.

Did not hear any traffic at night time. Nice smell of pine trees everywhere. Still 80Q for 2.

Report Check-In

Nice place for 40 QTZ pp. Water faucet, flush toilets (both at entrance and closer to camping area, behind cabana) and cold showers (behind main building). Food in restaurant is OK. Short hiking trail.

beautiful place! we camped down the river, it was quiet and peaceful. fire pit and cold shoers. dog are allowed. 40Q per person. perfect weather 26C during the day and 16C at night. no bugs at all. love it after the very tough road from izabal lake...

Report Check-In

nice place, but two things more to say: "almost no noise" is a little exaggerated, as the roads only 50m away. but its OK, and the air is very good, smell full of pine trees.
also: don't go to the restaurant, it was the worst we had in whole Guatemala!

A nice mountain hotel with different cabinas by a small river. The camping area is in the back on a grassy field a bit away from the road, so almost no noise. 40 gtz per person/night. It has a restroom and outdoor shower with cold water. You can cross the river over a small bridge and you can discover the forest. Perfect to walk your dog! If you get here in februray as we are now, bring a good sleeping bag. It is cold, brrrr.
