Description

We found this campground while looking for a place to cook all our vegetables before crossing the border into Chile. It is only a couple kilometers from the border and is one of the nicer free campgrounds we've stayed at. Tables and benches and fire pits are the amenities. It sits right at the intersection of the river and the lake. There are a half dozen other campgrounds between the border and San Martin so you'll find something that will work for you out here.

presence of many bees, allergy sufferers have to be very careful

Latest Check-Ins

Arrived on a beautiful and Sunday afternoon and the place was deserted, only one tent, no locals barbecuing.

Lots of space but sadly also some trash. Picked up two bags on our way out.

Quiet at night, excellent for Starlink.

You can fish from the shore but you need a license. You can get one online from https://www.cazaypesca.com.ar/

Huge camping area. Free. Fire pits. Tables with benches. Potable water. Paid toilets. Little shop.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for one night after not being able to reach the parking near the thermas because of a little bridge which seemed not strong enough for our 13ton truck. The bridge near this campsite was ok to cross.
Very busy but beautiful situated on the lake. We really liked the easy walk to the waterfall which is spectacular. Don't miss it.

It is probably one of the best free, but well setup camping spots in SA!
toilets, running water + separate tap outside, benches, tables, lake access, 45 min walk to Hot Springs, quite remote location, giving the challenging access road, which took us more than 2 hours from San Martin.
However that is also why it is popular, especially during high season and / or weekends.

Report Check-In

Wide, nice grassy area with parilla and toilets but idk if you can use them in winter/spring. We only used the muelle with our dingy coming from Nanthun “Camping” to go to the Cascada. Friendly locals around. You can also take the ferry from San Martin dlA to get here.
The place looks really nice, so a good alternative if the other places closer to San Martin are already full.

Excellent place to camp, free and surrounded by nature.
At this time of year we were the only ones, in the summer a lot of locals go and it stops being quiet.
We talked with the park ranger who lives a few kilometers away without any inconvenience, he is not used to seeing campers in winter....

Recomendamos

Beautiful campsite right at the lake. Lots of room and choices to park. Although it's Argentina's high tourist season, the campground didn't feel too crowded though there were definitely people around. We didn't find the toilets and the bushes can get a bit dirty with TP lying around. We couldn't drive faster than 20km/h on the gravel road so it took a while to cover the 50 ish km to get there but Would recommend!

Amazing free camp, the road to get there is bumpy and hard but the place is wonderful! Highly recommend

A nice free campsite at Lake Nanthue with mountains scenery. I was arrived here on Sunday, it's looks like a lots of peole camping here during the weekend. But at Sunday night, i was alone after everyone leaving. It's clean campsite, just little bit tissues papers left on the bushes. No trash bins provided there, so please make sure you bring your trash with you . No facilities, no lights. A lots of people come here for fishing and kayaking.

one of our best spot in South America. super nice lake with beautiful reflections during the morning. we were here during the weekend and we were the only ones ( excepted 3 fishermans with kayaks on the lake). Some trash around. we clean the place a bit.

Great place, we spent two nights and it’s dog friendly! Lots of spots to choose from. Unfortunately, a lot of toilet paper in the beach area even though there are toilets in the area. We had the hike to the waterfall viewpoint to ourselves in the mornings.

Really nice free campground on the lake. We spent 3 nights, including a Friday night, all peaceful. Only available service was a single pit toilet.

Report Check-In

Really nice and quiet spot with tables and fire pits right be the lake shore. Peaceful and beautiful. Free.

Report Check-In

Really amazing free spot where the river enters the lake. Plenty of space and firewood. Pit toilet. We should have stayed longer after seeing how busy and how much places charge to camp in the Argentina lakes region.

Nothing more to add. Cool spot on grass with awesom view. Good for a couple days.

Report Check-In

Very nice free campground. Nice view on the lake with a bridge for fishing and swimming. Fire pits and benches available. In the peek season it's a bit crowdy and noisy.

Report Check-In

Nice camping on the free side close to lake. We crossed the bridge but there were hoards of people with speakers so we backtracked across the bridge and found a nice spot in the trees on the road away from the lakeside. Fire pit and no facilities but very peaceful in the trees.

what an amazing place. amazing. and for free!! perfect, even with the bicycle it is worth to make this detour. lot of shadow, fireplaces, benches,...in general a big area. the water of the lake is very clear, but we took the water from the river for drinking and cooking.

Report Check-In

Nice place. We followed the track to the north and had a great campsite on the beach.

Report Check-In

This is definitely also one of the most beautiful campgrounds we've stayed at during our trip! The indicated location for this site is south of the river, however, the really exciting places are the grassy sites on the lake front just north of the river. It's a bit tricky to get there as the obvious track is/was blocked by a massive log; take the track that buckles north from the bridge for about 300m, then swings south along the shore line. We found a drop toilet in the southern section but none at the northern section. At the time of our visit no park entry fee was collected anywhere on the road from San Martin. Also, the ferry on the Chilean side (13 km in) takes approx 20 cars, and we did not book ahead and still got on (Google for "barcaza hua hum", a fairly good website).
