Description

Great free and peaceful place to camp. Very hidden so seems safe.

Cycletravellers. We asked at Carabineros for a place to camp and they told us about this place. Quiet place, forest and a good windbreak beside the water plant.

Directions:
If you turn off the main road next to the gps pin onto a dirt track, it brings you straight to the concrete wall in front of you. Take a LEFT, and follow this road halfway back to the town. It will then bend to the right and then you can take another right back towards the oasis and the entrance. OR: take the track from the main square in the village (after buying water and beer) and go directly to this oasis

We asked permission and we’re told no. So off we went.

Quiet and safe place to stay. Lots of shade, good signal. Few locals had a beer buy left in the evening. Would come back here again!

Report Check-In

Quiet, shady, level spot right off the highway. Grilles, playground, and nice folks who gave us assurance that this was a safe and legal place to park. Highly recommended as a spot between San Pedro de Atacama and Antofagasta

Clean and remote, yes. but at one end is a bar which seems to be closed all the time. WE arrived at 1900 in a saturday , Nobody there. WE parked the Car left at the entrance. all quite. at midnight some Cars arrived and parked at the bar to make a funny saturday night Party. they did Not Take Care about us, beside loud music nothing happend. Cat is still there and hungry. Not Sure what this place really is. very Clean so someone Takes Care. maybe on another weekday a perfect spot. approach via Village more easy.

super nice place for the night, safe and hidden! there are a lot of trees, so it doesn‘t get to warm in the morning. there are some pit toilets and there‘s a mobile signal (4G) there‘s also a cute cat, who‘s super hungry and can get quite annoying xD

great place to camp! you're hidden from the road, but you can hear the traffic - but that's hard to avois in this region. some guys drinking in the evening, but they left at 9pm and i had a quiet, green campspot. it's about 70km from calama, so a doable distance, even if you leave late there

Really nice camp spot! Away from the mainroad, almost no noise, surrounded by beautiful green. Recommended

Good for one night. Trucks and trains are quite loud. Otherwise quiet place with good wind protection. Entel signal.

very good place for a nicht stop, clean green and safe :-)
there is also a good gravelroad just coming from the little town, so you dont have to drive onthe highway

Fantastic little spot! Secluded and felt safe as so remote and actually very peaceful. MUCH better option than the other spots listed in town in my opinion, particularly for rooftents! We initially found the entrance very difficult to find:

Endroit sympa et safe. Peut être à éviter le week end... La nuit a été calme avec quelques passages de trains. Le matin la jardinière nous a donné 12l d'eau potable.

Great overnight spot. just drove my motorcycle right into the Oasis and camped in zone 4.
Cleanest outhhouses I've ever seen. At night the Bombaros came by and yelled out "hello"!
In the Am I was going to wash my dish in the plant water that was running and the gardener came over and said, " Dont use that water"!
not sure why but he insisted not to use or drink it and directed me to a little greenhouse where I could get drinking water and rinse out my stuff!
Also a sparatic open wifi, but I could never log on.

Nice oasis close to the village. We parked at the back of it next to trees protecting us from the desert wind and next to a picnic area unused in low season.

This place is amazing! The town is mediocre but this rest stop is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. We stayed one night in an area tucked behind the main rest are. Follow the dirt track from the road south of town and aim for left of the large white container. Windy afternoon but it died down when the sun went down. Safe, quiet, plenty of firewood and bbq pits. Also has a playground and portapottys.

Possible also for big rigs that will have to park at the entrance because low branches. It's a nice oasis in the desert.

Great place.
Don't be scared by the grey wall facing the main road. Go on the dirt road, and enter by the north-east side.
Don't leave anything outside, my shoes vanished. It may be dogs, i can't imagine someone stealing the old crap i had.

Amazing camping ground in this man made forested area just outside Sierra Gorda on the south side of town. Spent a quiet night totally protected from the otherwise constant desert wind. Camped without even anchoring the tent. Used the irrigation water for basic sanitary needs
