Description

*Day-Use Only.

High up over the lake. A little spur off the national forest road. Nice sandy flat and even for camping. Very exposed for tents and soft tops. Was 19 degrees Fahrenheit and windy when we camped here. About 6400 feet high so be warned. Beautiful sunset and lake view. Mono Inn with it’s fabulous restaurant is only 4.5 miles away.

Still as described originally. Those who got stuck in the sand, the description said 4x4 required. If you arrive from Hwy 295 on Cemetery Rd using google it’s a Prius level Rd. If you arrive from Hwy167 then use 4x4 or risk getting stuck.

According to friends in the National Forest Service, this place has always been closed to camping, as it is a highly fragile ecosystem that is currently undergoing restoration. The pullout marked here is for day use only. While it is a beautiful spot and you may get away with camping here, please respect the plants & animals around you. Tent camping is not allowed and not recommended, as the small pullout is not set up for a tent footprint. Do not have a campfire here! It is 100% illegal to have a fire outside of a designated campground fire pit and it’s extremely dangerous in our dry climate. As always, PACK OUT EVERYTHING that you bring with you. This includes food waste, coffee grounds and toilet paper. I’ve literally found a large pot’s worth of spaghetti thrown into a bush just a few feet from this location. That’s shameful to our community of campers and overlanders. Please just always visit in places with respect and like you’ll be coming back to them, because some of us are coming back to them and we are angry about how others have disrespected that place.

Beautiful little spot on Mono Lake. There are hot springs nearby but the boiling water feeds into cold water and it's not a mix that you can actually soak in. Beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and the lake, sunset and sunrise were something to behold. I'm sure the stars at night would have been gorgeous but we were too cold and tired to get out and look at them (26°). Very quiet, restful spot to stay the night. I would give 4 stars, app won't seem to let me change rating from 2.5.

Excellent spot, we entered through cemetery road from 395 and that on is a graded gravel road. Forget about mapping Apps, they all send you in the bad road from the north.

Beautiful, quite, clean. Easy to reach, few spaces to spend the night, no RV not enough space, we have a tent on top of the Jeep. The place is nice but the lake is not for swimming, not too much walking or hicking eather. Phone signal very low, but incredible sunset!

Got stuck in the loose sand in this spot. The road in was ok via Black Point, (DEFINITELY DO NOT TRY TO COME IN FROM THE NORTH EAST), but my van got stuck as soon as I parked in this spot. We spent 5 hours trying to get it out and had to resort to having a towing company from Nevada come pull us out.

The views are AMAZING, but don’t come here without 4WD.

Fantastic spot, where you feel you are alone on the planet... So beautiful at sunset and sunrise... Not the best option when the battery of your engine is dead in the morning 😜 Thank God one car came through the same road before mid-day!
As already written, not all the Google map options are comfortable... See the map on attached pics : we recommend to choose the blue lined Road, instead of the red crossed one. (This was still ok with our 24 feets, 2WD RV, but tricky).

Quite little parking pullout for one vehicle with incredible view of Mono Lake, several other similar spots near by. Road has 2 ways in, google took us a way that needs high clearance for deep sandy ruts but not especially challenging, but also saw a Prius the next spot down the road. Flies are mildly annoying, mosquitoes waited to attack until 30m after sunset, be prepared. The sunset/sunrise views are sinply spectacular.

Awesome spot to rest on the way to Tahoe! If you arrive at night and pull into the spot, boom- you are lake front. Perfect scenery to wake up to.

This is near the De Chambeau Ranch on NF land. See the photo posted regarding camping (none near the ranch or any fires or portable stoves). We moved on to another site after enjoying the historic ranch and views.
