A lovely spot, we chose to park around the other side away from the buildings. Turned out to be a bad idea as at around 11pm two men in balaclavas knocked on our door wanting money. One pretended he was going on police, when they definitely weren’t. They must have walked around the lake to get to us and been watching. We didn’t feel safe after that so drove around and slept on the other side where this spot is actually marked. Nothing actually happened, but two blokes banging on your camping in balaclavas is disconcerting. The other side was ok, but noisy with trucks and their brakes for a lot of the night.

Can confirm that it's not safe here. We parked on the other side of the lake (there is a road around it) with 3 campers and at around 10pm 2 masked men knocked on our friends camper and asked for money, make up something regarding a permit. They didn't open the door and after some discussion and saying that we would call the police they left. No idea where they came from, didn't have a bike or car so probably came by foot. First time having such an experience in Mexico after a year of traveling. Luckily nothing happened, but if you stay here, stay closer to the city under the lights.

Nice place to break the ride. we stayed one night at the big trees. police came at 8o'clock and told us it's not safe to stay, and that they are people around who would steal our old rusty campervan. so we moved over to the palapas to be at least with the houses. Nothing happend, and we had a nice but cold night.

Grassy area on the water. Clean, no trash, nice view, no one bothered us, very quiet.

Beautiful spot on the edge of a green blue crater lake. Yes it's wide open but no traffic. I went right rather than left away from the houses. good place to spend the night. Lots and lots of space. I parked here with a 25' Class C towing a car, no problems. There is a pack of dogs living near by.

Beautiful lake of an amazing blue color! Stopped here for a swim and lunch. Too open for us to camp but definitely worth a stop!
