Description

Incredible place to visit and learn about deforestation effects. This is more of a native jungle restoration project with some orchids growing within.

Omar has worked for over 30 years on this project and put his heart and soul into it. He explained the devastation the local jungle forest had experienced. Due to the larvae delicacy sold in markets, the multiple varieties of local palms have been eradicated. Even the soil around Puyo isn't fit to grow fruit.

He gladly walked us through his work. His vibrant daughter loved giving us a tour of the photo and bug exhibits. Our tour was totally in Spanish, Omar only knows a few words of English.

Omar has also built a special facility for kids with special needs to visit and learn from nature, this is something really special.

They organize day (6$) and night (7.5$) tours. We've done a night tour, the guide (the owner's daughter) speaks perfect English and was really nice. We booked the tour only a few hours in advance. We've only seen a few insects and frogs but if you're lucky you could spot birds and small mammals as well. It was interesting anyway to see how the environment has been completely transformed since the owner bought this land in the '80s. The cost includes a drink and a snack as well.

Totally agree with the first descrisption. Omar conveys all the enthusiasm and perseverance with which he created this wonderful forest. It is very inspiring and exciting to know his work. He explains very well how the biodiversity of the Amazon is disappearing due to the country's policies. highly recommended.
