It is more of a wild camp situation 15m from the river with a big pond. Melito's family is cute but leaves clothes, shampoo bottles etc. on the river bank. You can use his kayak and when we asked him to take us to the caves or tubing which the nearby lodge offers he said yes at the beginning and then bailed.

If you like wild camping this forest forest glade might be for you. You will be by yourself with a visit of Melito 1-2 times a day swim in the pond and play with the kayak. Pit toilet too gross to use. Just for Vans and cars, RVs can't reach the spot bc of low hanging trees.

Melito asked for $10US pp/night. Another iOverlander had payed this. We paid $10BZ pp/night and left after one. This spot should be for free. There aren't any amenities.

The road is brand new and the access is very essy. We asked the front desk if it was possible to park our RV and use the facilities in exchange of having a dinner in their fabulous
restaurant and they said yes! The food was delicious with decent price, that was a treat!!!
Staff was awesome, very nice pool, and the 20min hike for the lookout totally worth it, beautiful view of the valley. Totally recommend for a lovely stop in the middle of the jungle.

As described, amazing jungle experience on the edge of the Sibun Forest reserve. NOTE THAT THE PHONE NUMBER HAS CHANGED. +501 624 8599. Access is a bit difficult and you must contact Melito to escort you through the Sleeping Giant Lodge property to his place beyond. Low branches from citrus trees prohibit anything bigger than a van or truck with short camper. Melito took us on a hike to see an amazing ceremonial cave hidden deep in the jungle. He is very knowledgeable about the natural environment and the history of the Maya. Great spot by the river. You're boondocking, though he has a pit toilet. Special place if they can get approvals for registering this as an official campground.

The most unique campspot you will find in the wildernis of Belize!
We had a wonderful stay with Melito and his lovely family. They live at a secret getaway, along the river, behind the Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. Please give Melito a call if you want to get there because you will need his guidens if you want to reach this secret place of paradise (+5016011685 Melito). Melito, aka The Riverman, knows this area as the best and works in the area as a licensed tourguide. We did some hikes, birdwatching, fishing and kayaktrips with him along the river, so amazing!!!
We paid him 10USD/day/person for the stay wich was totaly worth it! They have a grassy area next to the river where you can camp (accesable for vans, cars and tents). The lovely family lives more up the hill. They also provide delishes breakfast, dinner, drinks for an extra charge. But you can discuss anything with this most hospitable family! So one recomandation; give Melito a call and just go!
