Nobody heading North . South way they were stipping people

Report Check-In

It seemed to me that they were trying to get me money. Insisted that I could not carry my Kayak passing the bumpers. Took me to a closed Room and said I had to pay a ticket. I insisted that carrying my Kayak that way was not wrong. Finaly they let me go.

Report Check-In

North to south:
They stopped the car in front of us, but only checked some papers. We are obviously a foreign vehicle (big sticker at the front), but we could drive on without being checked or asked anything.

Until now we had no problems with the police from Canada to Argentina, they have always been correct. But we let check our fire extinguisher and we renew our first aid kit before the expiry date. In our home country we also have to pay a fine if e.g. the first aid kit has expired.
But, if we would have to pay a fine, we would only pay with a receipt.

Report Check-In

south bound control only, not north bound. we were going north

Report Check-In

They stopped us but only asked where we were coming from and where we were going. The policeman was very friendly.

Report Check-In

Friendly police asked from where we come and where we go. That’s it.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Notorious corrupt police. We forgot to give them the copies, and give them our original and what an hour for nothing. They try to find some stuff to bribe us and they find it, the alfagopes, the tow rope, and they tried and tried, so we called the embassy at some point and filmed them. We were tired and speak in spanish so they were like you understand, its forbidden, they showed us a technical book for the policia of 2011, we just loose time it was the law 48.

Report Check-In

Same for us. Very friendly policemen here. There was - ca. 2 km North of this station - another police station & there they stop us & controlled everything. They also controlled if we had a tow rope for the car - in their opinion it’s mandatory to have one. As our tow rope didn’t reach their expectations they wanted us to pay. We decided to call an Argentinan friend & asked him for help. As soon as they realized we were calling a local they decided to let us go without paying ;)

Report Check-In

now southbound: they stopped and checked us with a letter in His Hand. but as requested we Provided Car and insurence paper, First aidKit, fire extinguisher and Triangel. towing Hook was dismounted. after 10, 15 minutes he let us go as all was fine. northbound No Control, good for us. we saw southbound a little Queue as they stopped every car. so far we had No Problems with Police in Argentina, Fingers crossed!

Report Check-In

Very friendly. All vehicles were stopped, they checked the documents, gave them back with a smile and let us through.

However, there was also a "police" checkpoint 2km North. We were asked to stop at first, but allowed to continue a minute later. That checkpoint seemed fishy and unofficial. I'm not sure if it is actually police. Although we had no problems, so maybe it's all good.

Report Check-In

We were only stopped to control the driver's license. No more questions, only a very friendly chat with two policemen in Spanish.

Report Check-In

We were controled and asked us 400€, then 200€, then 50€..... Thanks to the advices below, we kept saying "no entiendo", then he let us go..

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

only check of driving license, no problems

Report Check-In

We were stopped here and one kilometer more north. We are going south. Wanted to see our
fire extinguisher, warning triangles and safety vests. Tried to let us pay 200 euro (!) for the production date of 2016 which they said was the expiring date. We firmly refused. After 10 minutes they let us go if we promised to buy a new fire extinguisher at the next gasstation. Of course we promised 😜.

Report Check-In

We were stopped and the policeman looked at the vehicle documents and identification, they asked to see the extinguisher, triangle and the interior of the vehicle, they also checked the reflective strips and released us.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

The are a lot of police checkpoints on the route to iguazu. Never pay cash to the police. They wanted 150 usd because our fire extinguisher was out of date for 3 days. We said no entiendo even after he used a translater and offered a discount. Finally we could leave without paying.

Report Check-In

Still active, both sides of the road. I was going north, they were checking the cars but didn't ask me (BR plates) to stop

Report Check-In

The policeman stopped us and ask our direction with a smile.

Report Check-In

Yes, we were stopped and asked for our documents: no problem
Then he wanted to see our safety equipment and the fire extinguisher had a date 2014. He tried to fine us 3000 pesos, but I told him “No entiendo”. He lowered the fine to 2000 pesos. Still “No entiendo” and he let us go.
So: “No entiendo” and do not pay.

Report Check-In

The policeman stopped us and talk about a law related to carry the bikes! We needed to pay 200 reais to pass on a road policeman!
In fact we was stopped twice! In the official station they suggested us to put a flag and let us go!

Report Check-In

Nothing happened. Just waved us through.

Report Check-In

Police control is still there. They did not stopped us. Some argentinians cars were there, and police checked that cars.
We just slow down (to 60km/h) and wave to the policemen.👋

Report Check-In

We were not checked. One cop was checking the cars on the opposite side and came running towards us. Turned out he wanted to check the car behind us.

Edit: 2 weeks later we came back the same route. Got checked twice in 300 metres, were asked for ID and license. Then they asked where we were going and waved us through.

Report Check-In

No problem here for us. We were not stopped. We travel after lunch which might be the time for la siesta :)

Report Check-In

No problems after 22.000 km and 7 months on the road in latam. Let them do their job, and be all smiles when it comes to greeting them!

Report Check-In

We passed the place going north to Iguazû without problems. It was late Saturday evening and it was heavily raining.
But one remark for Provincial of Entre Rios. If you can you should remove your tow coupling (Anhängerkupplung). We were told by local that they might check your driving license whether you are allowed to drive a truck as they might rate a car with tow coupling as such a truck.

We are two Dutch sister travelling in South America for 1 year with a Californian camper with only one number plate on the back. We were worried about this police check because of the stories. We made all necessities ready (lights on, white blanket, triangles, fire extinguisher, yellow jacket, first aid kit), but they did not check this. They asked our driver license, vehicle documents and insurance papers. Everything was OK and in 2 minutes we could continue.
They always ask about our front plate, we always tell the this is not required in California USA. We always put our hair down, smile, keep calm show confidence and start with a chat about the road and safety on the route. So far we never had any problem with the police during the last 12 months. In fact they often act friendly and are very helpful. We guess we have the benefits of being 2 women, but we hope these tips could help you.

Report Check-In

Imediatamente a conversa mudou.
Vai aí a contribuição. Espero q seja de valia aos demais.
Veja o documento na foto anexa.

Province of Entre Rios.
The passage there is practically mandatory because it shortens the way and avoids the most roads in Uruguay.
Concerned about corruption, the Argentine government itself has created a document to be filled in these cases that I make available at the end.
In case of this friend said that the vehicle was approved in Brazil and that Argentina was a signatory of Mercosur.
Even so the fine would be 2500.00 pesos. Then He presented the form that I would dispense saying that I would like to be filled with the fine.
Immediately the conversation changed. They said they would give a bonus and they released him without a fine.
That's the contribution. I hope it will be of value to the rest.
See this document on the pictures.
