Description

Dirt road turn off to the north of hwy 3. 6 or so individual camping spots. Most with little Rock fire rings. Noise isn't bad and theres a nice breeze that keeps most of the mosquitoes down. 4wd not necessary but higher clearance vehicles recommended.

Boondocked! Beautiful no noise. All we could hear was the rain on the roof

Report Check-In

Spent two nights here. Both nights had two other vehicles spread out among the 8 or so spots. Definitely recommend high clearance. Got a little slick after it rained. Would encourage 4 WD after first spot if it’s wet. Cleared spots are uneven, but plenty of rocks available to help with leveling.

Camping here tonight. See pics with the Mazda for my specific site. Made it up the road about 30-40 yards to the first real spot. Doable in a low clearance 2WD but I wouldn't go any farther. Take it slow and you'll probably make it. A copilot outside the car may help as well, however I was alone. Road noise is pretty clear from this site however probably improves if you're able to drive up farther.

Update: Apologies to the people nearby who probably heard me bottom out this morning 😂 I have no idea how I didn't on the way up but coming out is definitely a bit more tricky. Be careful.

I made it up with a two wheel drive vehicle with about 10 in of clearance to the first potential camp spot. There are about 10 other spots farther up the road but only accessible to four-wheel drive vehicles, or 2WD if you have a scout walking ahead and placing rocks in the low spots, and working your way up. The road is only a couple hundred yards long, but cars, pickups, and maybe some vans, nothing larger. None of the spots are level without blocks. This road used to service a remote weather station, now appears abandoned. Great views, some road noise, but secluded from road view.

Please keep this area clean. Pack it out, including your human waste and toilet paper. 2 bars on T-Mobile.

fine and quiet spot. I've a grand caravan van and its fine for the first spot. After this, high clearance recommanded. very beautiful view and close to Denali Park.

joli spot sympa. avec un van type grand caravan vous pouvez allez sur le premier spot facilement avec prudence. après je recommande un 4x4.
belle vue et proche de Denali Park.

Report Check-In

Great spot a bit off the main highway. Good Verizon and ATT. Leveling blocked needed.

Nos quedamos 3 noches sin problemas. De día fuimos al P.N Denali. No hubieron tantos mosquitos considerando esta fecha y estar en medio de la naturaleza. Recomendado. Otras vans llegaron cada día también. Full 4g

We stayed 3 nights with no problems. During the day we went to Denali National Park. There were not so many mosquitoes considering this date and being in the middle of nature. Recommended. Other vans arrived each day as well. Full 4g

Report Check-In

Dry and accessible as of now. Slight road noise

So cool! This place was empty on a weekend in August. The road is fun to drive if you have a capable vehicle and the sites are indeed not level. But the views are worth it!

Report Check-In

Would definitely recommend high clearance as the turn off is quite bumpy and up a high straight away. We had a Jeep, but we didn’t need 4x4. Would not recommend trailers or big rigs. A few spots with fire pits, most are not level. You can hear the highway but not too loud. Good Verizon signal here.

Kinda fun driving in my Nissan Xterra, I wouldn’t do it in a car. Nice camping spot, very secluded. Thanks for the tip!! Great spot!

Report Check-In

Nice spot with about 6 areas for camping and fire pits.
Not trailer friendly, but even a 2wd could make it.
Could be state land as there is a communications outpost at the top.
5 bars w/ Verizon

Thx a lot to the one that entered this place... Came late at night with my motorbike. Little bit up the road there is good places for the bike and a tent. Was just one other camper there... Camped 2 days... No problems...

Report Check-In

Very bumpy going up and road noise but the view is worth it. I wouldn't reccomend pulling a camper up.

As described in other posts. I’m in a 24’ Class C and decided to move on down the road instead of risk busting a black tank or something else. Tight squeeze at the entrance and then some rocky spots on the climb up. Definitely doable but high clearance necessary. Had solid cell signal with Verizon and ATT

Finding a level spot is tough. Definitely recommend higher clearance if u venture further down the road.

Report Check-In

Good and I would be happy to stay again. A bit windy at night.

Around 8 or so sites if you drive all the way to the top. There is some sort of outpost used by the utility company near the top. Because it's high up on the side of a mountain the cell coverage is quite good. ATT was 10mb/s download and 22mb/s upload. Verizon was worst at about 5 down, 3 up. Narrowest part of this place is the entrance and it widens up more after that. A couple places are slightly narrow but nothing crazy. Drove this in a tall and long Sprinter van, did not use the 4wd but it has pretty decent ground clearance. I honestly think any SUV could make it up in 2wd, even a lot of regular cars carefully piloted.

Report Check-In

Entrance is super bumpy. There are couple of spots to watch out if not high clearance vehicle as middle part is a big mound and sides too low. Top of that very first spot on left is very hard to level rv. We didn’t want to go any further so used it for a night. Second night we went for place 1.5 miles down the road (also on iOverlander). Much better for our rv 20feet long, Ford e350 even though it says tight entrance just pull the side mirrors in.

Report Check-In

Good spot when you want to take a bus into Denali early the next day. High clearance vehicle recommended as the road is pretty steep and bumpy (more than you can see on the pictures) but we managed okay with our normal van, too.

Report Check-In

Another great location. Can hear some traffic from street, but not bad. Well hidden. Not for RVs or big rigs >24ft

Report Check-In

Great spot near the park. Space for about 8, last night there were 5. We followed a vw bus into the spot, however a vehicle with higher clearance is recommended.

cellular internet reception on Google Fi.

Report Check-In

It is a good and wild overnight place for free. There are about 5-6 small spots, some a little on a uneven terrain.

Report Check-In

Oke spot for the night. We where alone. We could just fit in with our truck camper. Almost full AT&T LTE reception.
