Perfect Camping at the beautiful Recapture Pocket. There are plenty of great hoodoos and rock formations around. It is really surprising not to find this great place mentioned more in the web or in travel books.
Very quiet.

Beautiful place.
When you leave the road, at first fork go left (the right takes you to river crossing for 4x4 with high clearance), then at second fork stay right to get to this slice of heaven.
Explored it on foot in evening as well as morning as there is zero shade.
Lovely and super peaceful, we were all alone with the dogs
It’s really cool place and fun to explore that area. The road has some little sand but as long you have good tires. This campsite is 1-3 bars of ATT. If I am go further and will less coverage or no coverage at all. Very quiet area. I had deal with very windy but no big deal.
Report Check-InI came down that Sandy Road in a 27 foot Class C. It takes guts! The sand is very deep in spots and you cross at least one or more washes, some completely washed out, but when you get here! I am totally in heaven here. There's no lack of places to hike, there are fabulous hoodoos, and the wash next to me is unbelievable in layers of color.
I would definitely come here again, even with the road as it is!
Recapture Pocket is great for self-contained camping. The area feels wild and distant, and no one else was here when we were here. No one drove down the road. The road has sandy places but should be manageable with 2WD.
2-3 bars of Verizon LTE.
Do be careful of the abundant Cyanobacteria soils, living beings that grow slowly but are destroyed with a footstep.
Report Check-InVery nice private location with beautiful surroundings. Dirt road very accessible and easy to navigate.
Report Check-InLOVED this place. It was a bit of a slow drive back into the hills, wondering where the road would lead- but once we got to the camp sight, it was amazing!!
Report Check-InWas very quiet, apparently no one knows of this spot because it was deserted on Labor Day weekend. There is a faint thumping in the distance which we think is an oil jack on an oil well nearby
