Latest Check-Ins

Spent one night here with our truck camper. Used the coordinates in a comment below and it was easy to access not too far from
The road but hidden behind trees. One excavator parked in the river. A guy came to drive it away at 9 PM on a Friday but didn’t say anything to us. Could hear highway noise but overall a good spot to spend the night on our way to Oaxaca.

We parked on the lower level, just before the creek and came out to check if we could find someone to confirm wether it was ok to stay there. We could hear voices, so we approached the barbed fence around the farm and shouted “Hola!”. The farmer showed up waving and told us to come around, he immediately invited us to come in and park inside his land. His name is Abel.
He showed us around the farm and mentioned the people from the previous comment too!! :)
We ended up sitting with him outside (he was also staying there that night) and we shared some beer, wine and tequila, olives and sweets, while we talked about the land, family, dreams and hopes.
He was very reassuring about our safety there and he seemed genuinely happy to have us there. It definitely left a very warm feeling in our hearts.

Indeed the easiest place to access the creek is 18.22963 -98.20312
But be very careful in the wet season or when thunderstorms are expected, when we were there on 29 August 2023 we setup camp on the creek bank (creek was dry) the local farmer warned us for flash floods and invited us to camp on his land approx 50m higher. That evening a severe thunderstorm came over and the dry creek changed in a roaring river taking down everything in its path.
If you come down to the creek, take a left and the track goes through the river bed and ends at a barbed wooden gate, that’s the farmer’s entrance and when he is there ask permission to camp on his land higher up. They are very nice and the place has very nice views, next morning we left and gave them a box with beers. Everybody happy

You can enter the dry river bed at the crossing at 18.227056,-98.211372. Turn left right after the crossing!
Then you can drive in the river bed along the street, it's open. You need some clearance and probably 4wd (depends how far you want to go in the river).
There are several places to park, some are seen from the 190road, some not. You hear the road, but in night it's quiet.
Along the 190 you can find several spots to drive into the river bed on both sides of the road.
Good choice is at 18.2296106, -98.2031242 on the right hand driving towards Oaxaca, there it's a pretty good entrance.

Place has a fence which is closed with a chain lock. One can not drive down. But there are other places where you can drive down to the dry river.

2 WD approach with ourpoor rental Nissan Versa was ok, but tricky.
not really quiet, we are in a tent, but great place anyway.

Stopped here for one night to break up the drive from Mexico City to Oaxaca. Nice level area beside a dried up creek; quiet and clean. (A few cow pats, but thankfully there was no bad smell.) We also found a lot of firewood around. Felt very safe.
