Between Mexican Hat an the San Juan river. The road is steep to go down to the river. We have a 20 feet RV, it was ok.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Two dips in the road that were tricky for our 23’ Ekko (factory Transit chassis). The spot is beautiful and relatively level. It is BLM land so ignore the sign asking for $ at the entrance.
Report Check-InGreat spot, nice size, could fit 2-3 rigs there. Was very clean when we showed up as well. All of the sites along this road looked great. We were the only ones at any of the sites but it was a Sunday night in November which is the off-season for the area. The road is easily passible for any sort of SUV/Truck. In wet conditions I could see it getting muddy and slick which may make it a bit tough for 2WD vehicles as there is some slight climbs to get out. We were in an AWD Ford Transit on stock tires/suspension and it was dry for us so no issues.
Great view of "Mexican Hat" monument and access to the San Juan River although the river was moving too fast at this spot to get in while we were there. This is BLM land there is a very home-made unoficial sign up by the monument asking you to pay online for a campsite. Probably just an entreprenurial local. Nobody bothered us while we were there. Leave it better than you found it!
Report Check-InGreat spot for two trucks, two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144s, one Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170, and 10' trailer.
Report Check-InThis spot is absolutely terrible! Don’t go here! (Did I convince you??) JK, this spot is amazing, private, quiet, and the views are incredible! A stones throw away from the San Juan River. The road in is easy but I can see it being super slick if it’s wet. PLEASE don’t be a trash-hole at these places and get ‘em shut down, I want to come back!!
Report Check-InReally beautiful spot! The River is fast so you can’t swim in it. Tried to walk a trail but it was too overgrown. Be careful as there is loose sand in some spots and when I went to turn around I got stuck and had to use track pads to get out. If you pay attention shouldn’t be an issue though. Nonetheless enjoyed the lovely views!
Report Check-InYou gotta be crazy to stay here in the summer in a tent. violent sun. we went to sandy point for shade. Flys were awful
Report Check-InPretty sweet spot, made it down fine in 2wd van. Well see about making it up tomorrow. The sharp turn ain’t bad
Report Check-InLovely spot. Drove in after dark and all “good” spots were taken. Kind of scary driving at night but well worth the effort. Had a fantastic view of Mexican Hat from our spot. Nice walk with the dogs in the morning and hike down to the river.
Report Check-InAmazing spot. One of our top 3 for sure!
Has water access, nice tent spot halfway to river. The prettiest views... Please keep it clean! A little trash when we were there but fairly well kept.
2WD shouldn’t be a problem in dry weather.
We had a lot of disappointed people turn around so get there early for the spot. We got lucky!
A few spots on the way down here but the one at the end of the road is my favorite - secluded and only room for one van/RV, maybe 2 or 3 depending on how friendly you want to be. Steps down to a second hidden spot where you can have a fire and pitch a tent, and only a few more stwps down to a beautiful spot on the San Juan. Highly recommend - get in early to make sure you secure it
Report Check-InGreat little spot! very quiet the sound if the river was fantastic. Some trash but picked most up. No internet service but had cell service. Would definitely stop here again!
Report Check-Ingreat place to swim. beautiful sunset with view of the Mexican hat rock
Report Check-Inthere's one steep spot on the road but our Chevy Express did fine. There's room for a few rigs in a few different spots. River access through a little path. Great sunset behind Mexican hat. very quiet, fire rings
Report Check-InGood spot along river. Flat, fire ring, no trash.
Can hear river and see Mexican hat rock. As mentioned: steep approach with small switch backs.
Awesome spot with view of Mexican hat! Peaceful but no cell reception (at&t or Verizon)
Report Check-InReally great camp site at the end of the road. Wanted to camp in monument valley, but the winds prevented me and my pup from doing so. Was able to tuck my tent in amongst the small trees along the beautiful San Juan river. You’re surrounded by the canyon, but still had service. There were beer bottles and such thrown around, so probably a local party spot, but was pretty quiet on a Sunday night. My dog loved swimming in the river.
Report Check-InProbably the most scenic BLM, the road is a bit steep but no problems even with normal passenger van. Slept here one night without any issues
