Description

Aug 2022. Not closed.
.....
Road looks blocked off for the season but you don’t find out until you get to the end… you might be able to just park anywhere but we didn’t want to risk it & didn’t see anyone to ask….The Nisgaa people that run this fish camp are only here in the summer but the place is open year round and free.
You can see the salmons try to jump the waterfall or go through the fish ladder.
During the salmon season, watch the people fish, smoke and prepare the salmon.
There is a gift shop. If you buy a T-shirt, you have a piece of smoked salmon free.
Camping is free in the parking area above the camp.
If you go on the little path down where the Meziadin river meets the Nass river, you might encounter one of the 2 grizzly bears that live in the area.
Careful. But thery'e great to watch.

A small camp (4 cabins and a shelter) where first nation people catch salmon using a dip net. Also, there is a man-made waterfall where you can see salmon jump out of the water to climb the waterfall.

There were two young people fishing. They weren't very welcoming but didn't tell us to leave.

This fish camp is not open all year, but definitely not permanently closed. There is a lockable gate for seasonal closure.

Really cold reception, didn’t feel welcome at all. Sad would have like to learn about native traditions

Description below is correct. Signs are posted for authorized vehicles only. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down the 50M to river. Salmon were still running but the t-shirt sales or smoked fish wasn’t a thing this year or we arrived to late in the season.

We drove here for a short viset.. It was an amazing experience to watch.. The men working the camp were super nice and knowing this is a traditional way of life was amazing.. it was alittle hard to find as you need to navigate through what looked like old gravel pits but when you get here it was amazing..
