Small gravel roads leave the Panamericana regulary to the left towards the power poles. We followed one of these roads and pulled out between two sand dunes. Back on the Panam after a short time you can take a shortcut to the ruins of Tucume (S 79.84776 6.51285 W), which give you a good Idea of the rural life in the deserts of North Peru.

perfect spot for one night. its not too loud If you drive a bit away from the street. we arrived in the dark and it was easy to find. there are lots of places to stay . there was less wind, so possible to sleep in the roof top tent
Report Check-InWe drove off at the big Claro sign (a little bit further south than this pin). You can drive the dirt / sand roads as far as you want / can and indeed find quiet spots hidden from the road. The further you go, the sandier the track gets. However, do not - I repeat, do not - deviate too far from the track. The seemingly hard ground is indeed SUPER soft underneath. We got stuck and had to use our maxtrax to get out. Aside from that, quiet night.
Report Check-InLeft puira and got a flat at the end of town. Bummer. I was really happy to have this spot, we found it in the dark. Not far off road but hidden. Was a fine night. If you try and turn around be careful of sand. You can just keep going straight on road and there are other roads that go back to the pan america.
Report Check-InUhhh, careful. The surface seems nice and hard but underneath its soft as shit ! We almost got stuck twice... 4wd no problem, but normal Vans better check toroughly.
Report Check-InNice spot. I wish we'd gotten here before sunset so we could have driven off-road a bit further to get way from the road and buzzing power lines.
Report Check-Incamped here on the gravel road. After the heavy rains in 2017 it's NOT recommended to go anywhere past the road, since we got pretty good stuck... mid get better every day though.
Report Check-Inlugar muy tranquilo para pasar la noche. de día mucho calor y no hay nada que haga sombra.
