Description

Really beautiful hike to Laguna Altura. The trail is on maps.me but it's well marked. This is the trailhead/parking. Room for 4 to 6 cars. 4x4 recommended as there's some soft sand. Hike is easy with a gradual slope. Took us 1 hour 15 minutes up and 50 minutes back. You'll cross the Chilean border but only vicuñas to check your passport. We just went to the lake and back but if you wanted you could do the whole loop. Highly recommended!

Latest Check-Ins

We spent a very quiet night at this spot. Nice views down the valley (not as great as some of the ones in the park), flat spot too.

Report Check-In

We spent the night here the day before the hike. This is very quiet! From there we hiked to the 3 lagoons in a 23km loop with 1000m of elevation gain. It takes us a long day of walking. The hike is absolutely incredible, it’s so beautiful! I really recommend it! In July there is no problem to come here by car.

Report Check-In

The road leading to this parking is in very bad state. Don't count on it if you don't have a 4x4 (in march 2024).

Report Check-In

We also parked here to start our hike. The road was ok, only 2 small rivers to cross but it was fine(we don’t have a 4x4). We walked up to the 3 lakes and back, took us 5h.

Report Check-In

We came with our Defender, but two friends came with their vans without difficulty.
We made the trekking to the second lagoon - from there to the third, would be another 2km and 150 meters of elevation. Easy trekking, despite the altitude, and really beautiful!
It's worth it to acclimate for higher mountains. It is possible to sleep here, but we prefer to spend the night in front of the geysers, because the terrain is flatter.

Nice hike. Just want to reiterate that this road to here is very driveable and no 4x4 required.

Report Check-In

From the Geisers park to the first Laguna it took us 1.45 h. You cross all the valley then up to the nice and windy Laguna

Report Check-In

Took us 5 hrs to do a round trip up to the second lagoon and back. If you are already up at the first lagoon its worth the effort to walk further up.

beautiful hike. You don't need 4x4 to reach this spot. There is one steeper tricky section but if you follow the tracks to the right it's avoidable
