The guard ask us 50 pesos to park here, he told us to do us a favor because it is normally forbidden to camp here. It's quiet and there is no noise at night but it's really not very sexy! I don't really recommend. we negotiated with the guard to have access to the toilets, but it's not terrible, you have to fill a bucket for flushing. Unfortunately it is not authorized to camp inside the national park.

We pulled up late in the evening, around 9pm, after hanging out in the town square to watch music and dancing. The guard seemed a little reserved about letting us park there, but then said it was fine when we mentioned we were just looking for a safe place to park for the night and that we would be leaving in the morning to take the boat tour on sumidero canyon. Mentioning that we wanted to be in a secure place with two kids didn’t hurt probably. 😉 Much quieter up here than in the city center.

very friendly police officers and security guards - no problem to stay overnight and very safe because they are here all night.

police officer told us that we are not allowed to camp in the national park, but here at the gate is ok.

We asked the police officer if we could stay for the night. He told us that normally its not but that he would let us for 50 pesos and that we could use the restrooms. We agreed and had a quiet and safe night.

Parking ahead of the park entrance, where security is located. Staff is very friendly and allowed staying overnight. Super quiet without any traffic!

A very good safe place to stay. Security looked after us. Everyone is very friendly. The police also meet at the place at night. It doesn't get safer than this 😉

Great free spot with clean toilets (bring tp). Relatively quiet night for the city. Guards were super friendly, offered us to come along on their night security drive through the park around 11pm! Neat to see the views at night and get some insider information. They also asked us if we wanted food too since they were sending someone to go get some in town. So nice! We didn’t see showers anywhere, but we filled our solar shower at the tap. Great option to stay here!

To confirm for everyone: you CANNOT take dogs into the park. Period. Not even if they stay in vehicles.

The guard offered for us to camp just outside the gate without us even asking, seems like it’s very accepted here! Restrooms and other facilities available, nice spot above the city.

Free entry to the miradores with the national park bracelet (included with all Sumidero Canyon boat tours), but even at 54p, it’s absolutely worth coming up here!

The entrance times have changed to 8.00-16.00 o'clock, so we were too late to visit the miradors. The guard immediately offered us to spend the night in the parking for free and offered restrooms, showers and gave us a map of Chiapas. Definitely the nicest official person we have met in 2 months travelling Mexico. The parking is guarded the entire night and it was calm.

Is a parking lot next to the entrance of cañon del sumidero where the security man invites you to stay at night. They also share the wifi password and the bathrooms with showers.

super endroit pour rester. gratuit. surveiller toute la nuit. gardien tres sympa, si vous demandez ils vous ouvrira les toilettes. parfait pour une nuit avant ou apres la visite.

Very nice people here! Could spend a quiet night in front of the gate. They even offered to use their WiFi!
Entrance fee is 54 Pesos/person now. Open all days, including Tuesdays.
Recommended!

Spent one night out here, as they said no camping inside the park. Went up on both days, with the same entrance fee, as they suggested to keep the bracelet and no need to pay again. Safe. Toilet open 24h and there’s a shower that you can ask for. Barely any water comes out, but better than nothing. Free…

The entrance to the park and hence access to all viewpoints is closed since the beginning of the pandemic. Only the boat tours for 250pp (30-40ppl per boat) or private boats (3500/1-8p) are operating.

Wie verschieden man Plätze wahrnehmen kann. Der lauteste Platz in nach einem Jahr Reise. Bis etwa 22Uhr fahren Collectivos von der hier befindlichen Sammelstelle ab. Gegenüber ist eine Kläranlage welche mit einem Elektromotor aufwartet. Die Polizei übernimmt ab etwa 22Uhr die Wache und lässt die ganze Nacht ziemlich laut das Radio laufen. Arbeiter kommen mit sämtlichen Fahrzeugen bereits vor um 6.... Tut euch einen Gefallen und sucht nach etwas ruhigerem.

Spent the night here after visiting the canyon. It is just a parking lot, not really flat, but it worked out well for us. The night was super quiet. Police is there 24h and you have free access to clean bathrooms. Police man also offered us to use shower and kitchen if we wanted. Good option for being so close to the city.

Perfecto lugar pra pasar la noche. Es muy tranquilo, hay baños y nos dejaron enchufar nuestro RV toda la noche.
La entrada vale $35.76 por persona y los martes está cerrado el parque.
El horario es de 8 a 5 pm

Arrived late, asked guard about staying, he pointed to where we could sleep. Guarded all night. Safe and quiet. We did enter the park the next morning, but you could get away without going, and just sleeping here.

We were stuck in Tuxtla on a weekend with vehicle problems, so we decided to check this place out. It was a bit late to enter the park so the officer at the gate offered us to spend the night in the parking lot. He was very friendly, placed a pylon about 3 meters behind our truck to make sure nobody would block access, gave us tons of brochures and maps of places to visit in Chiapas. Not the most picturesque place to camp but still a notch above Pemex or Walmart. Safe, access to clean washrooms 24/7.

Not very level but ok for a free night. No problem to spend the night. You cannot stay in the parkfor the night but here at the entrance it's ok.

Entrada a los Miradores del Parque Nacional Cañon del Sumidero. Llegamos sobre la hora de cierre 17hs y nos permitieron parquear junto a la entrada para dormir, Seguridad armada las 24 hs. los Martes permanece cerrado.
