Description

It is a campground of a local farmer's family. The place is beautiful, very quiet, safe, lot of space and you camp on flat grass. The owner is called Valentin and is the father of the local guide of the monument of the center of the world in Cayambe. He has a nursery and a garden with all kinds of organic vegetables, if you want you can buy some lettuce, etc from him. The price is 10usd per vehicle. To get here:
- follow the signs of "casa de los venados". (They will probably put up new signs for the campsite),
- before the casa de los venados, after a swimming pool with a blue roof, go to the first house on the left. 300mt from the panamericana.
Water and bathrooms, and electricity. Help the locals!

Fernando and his father were amazing hosts! We didn’t meet Fernando until the morning we left but he walked my husband around his fathers garden and gave all sorts of amazing fresh produce. After signing his guestbook it was fun to see people we have met on this trip so far! Highly recommend this place! ($10/car)

Report Check-In

A great campsite with lovely hosts! Valentin and Fernando are very welcoming, would definitely recommend a visit to their place. You can also visit Fernando’s brother’s cafe up the road at the equator line monument, and get some more of those homemade bizcochos!

Report Check-In

camped here in a tent, travelling by bicycle. charged $3 although there was a shortage of change so i think I ended up paying $3.50. Nice grassy spot to camp, equally for tents or small vans. toilets and water point. family invited me over in the evening for coffee and biscochos and to sign the guestbook

Report Check-In

Grateful to support this place. Fernando is a wonderful host. He and his wife are both English teachers in Cayembe. Later this year, he plans to start construction on a building where he can teach local children about their cultural history and positive values.

Report Check-In

I highly recommend this place. The owners are lovely and are very happy to show you around their property and tell you more about their culture. Valentine even helped us to start a fire to keep us warm. Enjoy!

Report Check-In

Small rustic campsite with Toilet no shower and patchy WiFi. We liked it and will stay here again

Report Check-In

This is a good place to camp. Has a bathroom and a water spigot. Unknown water quality. 10 down Wi-Fi. A couple of outdoor fireplaces with wood around. Flat place to park. Big rig and dog friendly. Nice hosts.

$10 per vehicle.

Would stay again.

Report Check-In

A lovely place, especially if you’re visiting the equator museum up the road. It is $10 per vehicle and in terms of amenities you are only getting a set of toilets, a fire place, water faucet and beautiful views. The wifi unfortunately kept cutting off. But we were happy to support Fernando. He has built a tourist attraction with his bare hands (includes a mirador and a cave) which was stunning. And the llama and sheep are cool. We’d come again for sure.

Report Check-In

I need to they our expectations were a little higher than what we wound after reading all the rave reviews here on iOverlander. For us it was definitely not the best campground in Ecuador (far from it) and we also didn't experience the same hospitality the others were talking about. The owner wasn't really talkative (even though we did talk in Spanish with him), he just showed us where to park and where the toilets are and that was pretty much it.

The property is pretty small and also half a football field / basketball court. The toilets were dirty and haven't been cleaned in at least a week.

Good news: the wifi is very fast if you can reach it and it's relatively quiet at night (only some barking dogs in the neighborhood).

The most awkward thing was that the owner suddenly wanted us to fill out his guest book and take tons of pictures with us when we wanted to leave, after barely talking to us earlier.

Summary: ok stop-over for a night, but definitely not amazing.

Report Check-In

great spot. big and grassy. it is a surprisingly popular destination for the locals so it does get busy during the day but pretty quiet at night. definitely worth the walk around the small property. Valentino is an English teacher at the local school so speaks great English and was patient with our broken Spanish. water was said to be potable here from the spigot but my TDS tester read 327ppm so we didn't fill here. wifi reaches the parking area but cuts out often. there is no sign to turn in here from the direction of the highway, but this pin is in the correct location.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot. Lovely people. Hot shower in their house. $3 pp to camp. It was raining so we left our bikes in the cave and stayed in a cute barn which was a treat :)

Report Check-In

Definitely a fun place to camp for the night, right by the equator. Included in the $10 charge is a complimentary little tour around the area.

Nice camping area and friendly family hosts. Clean bathroom and WiFi. Shower was provided in their home, but we didn’t use it. Would absolutely stay again.

Report Check-In

Great place to park for the night! $10 US per vehicle with access to wifi and restroom (no showers). Hosts are very friendly and invited me into their home for tea and dessert. Highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Sehr nette Leute. Einfacher Campingplatz. Dusche im Haus möglich. Wifi gut. Saubere Toiletten. 10$ pro Nacht und 2 Personen im Camper. Hirschfarm in der Nähe schön, 3$ Eintritt. Guter Platz.
Very nice people. Simple campsite. Shower in the house possible. Wifi good. Clean toilets. $ 10 per night and 2 people in a camper. Deer farm nearby nice, $ 3 entry. Good place.

Report Check-In

Sorry, the previous description of Fernando and Dianas campground is in Columbia, shortly after Pasto. The owner is also called Fernando and we mixed them up...
In this campground, Mitat del Mundo of Fernando and his family we stayed for one night and had a very nice time! Fernando is such an inspiring and motivated guy with lots of ideas and plans. His campground has everything you need, hot shower, clean bathroom, wifi, silence and great hospitality!! The grounds are grassy and any size rig will fit in. He has a beautiful caring family and three sons. The place is located a few minutes from the solar clock of the equator. Highly recommended!

Report Check-In

This was one of our very special places! Diana, Fernando and Karina are such a sweet family that will care for you the whole time. When we arrived nobody was home, but the neighbour let us in and while waiting for Fernando they invited us for a barbecue! Fernando and Diana have a beautiful wooden house with views over the valley and they will offer their hot shower, washingmashine and they even have a dumping station. We have an Iveco Daily, 5 t, and it was no problem to enter and park next to the house. Highly recommended!!!!! We will be back, amigos!

Report Check-In

We had a lovely stay. Very friendly people. Excellent wifi. Very much recommended

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay .
Lot of space to camp. We were there with our tent and our bikes. Valentin is very friendly.
2 toilets now and cold water available.
Still no shower but hot shower in Valentine's home .
Wifi was out of order.

Report Check-In

As all others mentioned the family is very welcoming. Camped on a nice grassy spot, paid $10 for 2 people in truck camper. Next morning we got a tour of the premises which was very educational. Valentino shared a lot of cultural aspects, and his goal of keeping it alive for generations to come.
We also could not leave without being given homemade treats.
A very special family. Thank you.

Report Check-In

Nice place, but only one toilet. They are kust building a second toilet. Owners are very overlander friendly, invited us for breakfast and showed us the caves.

Report Check-In

Valentín, Fernando, Leydi, the kids and their dog, Goofy now have a place in our hearts. We were treated like family, we cooked and ate with them everyday and got involved with the schoolruns. We spent a total of 12 nights with the family and it was tough leaving. Colaboration is the deal here. Nice getting to know the other travellers too. Go and stay with them and get involved, you'll love it.

Report Check-In

Extremely welcoming family, beautiful campsite, toilet closeby and clean. Shower in the family's house. You definitely have to have a coffee with bizcochos in the family run cafeteria (yellow building opposite of the equator line, called Cafe Ecuatorial). Fernando's sister who works at a chocolate and coffee factory spontaneously gave us a tour there. Great place!

Report Check-In

Such a lovely family, very welcoming and hospitable. We were made to feel at home and Fernando, Lady and Valentin were all very patient with my terrible Spanish! We struggled to find this place but the pin on Maps is pretty accurate- come off the main road down a dirt track, round a few bends and eventually you're there.

Report Check-In

Lovely, family run campground only few minutes away from the mitad del mundo.
We paid $10 for the night (2 pers in one truck camper). The family also cooks dinner for the guests and shares a lot of cultural information.
Didn’t use the facilities other than the wifi.
The next morning we got a little tour of the premises with a little cave, a mirador and a cool endemic insect. Also they wouldn’t let us go without giving us fruits & biscuits.

Report Check-In

All seems to be written , as soon as we arrived Valentin told us to come take a tea at his home. wifi ok, not yet shower, banos, and electricity 110v, but with a transfo it's ok. paid 10$ for 2 and the motorhome. Big rigs ok, grassy place for 3 or 4. We hear a little bit the road.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Very friendly family. We love our stay with us and our sharing. We went to Otavalo by bus. The shower is on built, so you have to take one in our house. We use their washing machine for nothing. We paid 10/night and we give more for the machine. Really nice stop.

Report Check-In

Nice place. Place for all kind of vehicules.
Shower ONLY in the moment inside the house of the owners.

Report Check-In

Not much else to say here. One of the best places in our trip so far. This family really knows the meaning of sharing, they don’t do this for business, they love their culture, traditions and their place, they truly enjoy sharing it with everyone who is open to it. Do yourself a favor and come here, memories for a lifetime are waiting for you in camping mitad del mundo

Report Check-In

Like described before, very nice campground and a amazing owner family. We spend a graet evening together in the town at a dance festival and then at there home. Next morning we had breakfast together.

Report Check-In

Incredibly heartfelt family!! Nice place for Camping and to enjoy ecuadorian culture and hospitality. Valentin, Leady and Fernando open their home and their hearts to their guests. Enjoyed together nice Dance Festival with participants from 10 Latin American countries in Cayambe and than set in the family kitchen for a long time whith coches, queso and vino.
Are Building separate bathroom, but to use the family bathroom it‘s not really a problem.
Highly recommended!!

Report Check-In

when you come here you don't have to think that you are entering a campsite; Nando, Leydi and Valentin are able to give to you the opportunity to became a member of the family. You can learn a lot here, and also if you are not commonly people that use campsite (like us) we have to say that this place worth the visit. We have spent two night with the family eating local food prepared by Laydi and we really enjoyed their hospitality. One day is not enough, better to stay three or four.
We have also to say that we have a big truck (really big) and we can fit perfectly.

Report Check-In

Essential passage in Ecuador. meeting with a Ecuadorian family very endearing with the heart on the hand. if you go there, do an abraso to leydi, Fernando and valentino.

Passage incontournable en Équateur. rencontre avec une famille équatorienne très attachante avec le coeur sur la main. Si vous y passez, faites "un abraso" à Leydi, Fernando et Valentino de notre part..escapade en famille

Report Check-In

It was an awesome experience. All of the family did their best for welcoming us. It's not just a campsite, the most important for them is to share with you their culture and traditions.
You have to take the time to discover this place

Report Check-In

Totally agree with the comments, we had a very pleasant stay! Price for one night is 10$ or 5$/person in a van, if you stay longer Valentin gives you a discount (3$/person).

Report Check-In

Pros: Kind and engaging family run this campground; flat, grassy camping area, within walking distance to the equator. Cons: only bathroom is in the family home right off of the main lounge (construction of new bathroom in camping area appears to have halted); wifi wasn't working while we were there. Considering all, we had a pleasant stay for one night.

Report Check-In

We couldn’t have had a better experience! Valentin, his son Fernando with his wife Leydi are among the best hosts we encountered. We were invited to coffee and bizcoche, Fernando showed as the colegio he works for, Valentin showed us the venados of a nearby farm and at night, we were invited to a traditional pachamanca. Absolutely recommend!

Report Check-In

We spend one amazing day at this nice place. The owner-family are very kind hosts, they invited us for cafe and dinner in their house.
Some of them speak english, so we had a good conversation. We stood on a grassy field, it was very quiet at night. It is a 10-
minute-walk to the Äquator-Line from here. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to camp. We were able to hang our hammock under the avocado tree. They said we could use the kitchen and bathroom. Very friendly hosts, we wish we could have stayed longer.

Report Check-In

As described. Great family. Superb hospitality. Delicious food. Highly recommended. Especially for cyclists!

Report Check-In

Great little campsite right by the equator line. We set our tent up in the garden and could use their bathroom (hot shower!) and kitchen. $3 pppn. Very friendly and welcoming family. Just be careful of the super mosquitos that bite through clothes, but the family have some good repellent they gave us. Decent wifi when sitting in the house.

Report Check-In

Valentino is proud of his garden, he will organize a visit tour for you and could invite you for a coffee and bizcocho. We strongly recommend.

It is a beautiful camping and it costs only 3 usd pp. We stayed here for three weeks. It is in the middle of a valley that it is only 6km to cayambe. In the sunny days, you can see the cayambe vulcano that is amazing. We stopped here after we met Fernando at the equator site nearby. Senior Valentine very nice, in fact whole family was most hospitable. we parked on grass across the road from the house and had power. Bano with shower is IN the house. His grandkids played on grass around us. Decent internet. second night a group of tourists came in and we were invited to join in their activities. We were able to fill our water tank from hose a house before we left.

Report Check-In

It's a very nice campside with the most friendly owners! We could pitch our tent next to the house in the garden, use their bathroom and were invited for lunch and breakfast. It's really quiet and safe at night. We can highly recommend it!

We had a great stay with Valentin and his family. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. If you like space, plants, some company and creativity you'll like it here. We were asked to pay $6 (2 p + tent), but paid $10 to support them on the projects they're working on. We'd highly recommend this place.

Report Check-In

Best camping ever. Lady and Valentino are amazing hosts. Will make you feel welcome and are ready to help with anything. There is a great atmosphere and energy. I camped here with my two dogs. We had meals together and was able to taste local dishes on the house. Would recommed to anyone passing by. No fixed price, I gave them 10usd p/n for sleepover and all meals.

Report Check-In

The price has increased to $10 per night to camp. We really enjoyed Valentin and his families company.

Report Check-In

Great location, very flat parking available and very friendly owners. We were here for just one night, but they still offer wifi, hot showers and electricity. Quiet at night and chilly.

Report Check-In

Very friendly and welcoming family. Nice grassy area to camp at. You can use the family's restroom snd shower. No price set bit we paid $5 per night. Shared dinner with Mr. Valentin, Fernando and Lady.

If your driving south on the Panamericana keep driving past the bridge, up the hill turn. To your left you'll see a building with a hay roof turn left and leave the highway. Go down the dirt road all the way down and then turn left. You'll see a blue camping wooden sign. Ask for señor Valentin.

If heading north on the Panamericana drive past the Mitad del Mundo place and turn right after on the first road to your right. Drive down the dirt road all the way to be bottom turn right and look for a blue camping wooden sign to your right. Ask for Señor Valentin

Report Check-In

Beautiful camping area with multiple options to park or tent camp. Bathroom and shower is in the house of the family, no problem for the them. For us it felt more like a homestay than camping on your own because they invited us in to their house and to a family gatering, they let us taste a lot of local food and we helped with the making of humitas: we loved it.

Report Check-In

There is enough place for parking big trucks.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Ya great place. Can be more of a home stay than a campground. Road not on the map (at least mapsMe and google) so don't expect to just drive to this place without studying where the turn of is.

Report Check-In

Incredibly welcoming family who are very interested in meeting travelers. Nice grassy spots with electric. Wifi reaches most of the camping area. Worth noting that if you're not self contained (we're not) the bathroom & shower are behind a curtain only a few feet from the living room and dining table in their house. We left with hugs from the owner and some avocados as a parting gift. Worth a stay to meet some of the friendliest locals ever.

Report Check-In

everyone is nice and it is calm and quiet and safe but this place had really been over sold. it's not an established campground, the wifi was spotty at best, the electrical scared me, five minute walk... what a joke, and at $10, this wasn't a value.

Bel endroit avec des patrons et une famille extrêmement cordiaux et disponibles . Prestations minimales mais permettant de vivre avec les locaux. Difficile à trouver il faut tourner au panneau avec un cerf.

We had a great stay with such a welcoming family.
Valentin, his sons and daughter-in-law and sister ( brought us some flowers from her garden)and the grandchildren.
We loved the spinach Valentin gave us and the herbs to make tea. Today we had the last avocado. They were so good, muy rico! Thank you so much!
It was a shame we had only time for one night.
A great place to stay, very quiet at night.

we arrived in the afternoon. toilette was closed, had to wait for the key until 7 pm. internet was not working. we used no shower, no electricity. next day we paid $ 6.00. just before we left, the owner wanted $ 10.00. we did not agree.

Great campsite and lovely family! Best Internet so far in Ecuador. Hot shower, clean bathroom, quiet area. All members of the family live in the different houses around the area so that makes the place very safe. And everyone will welcome you and give you vegetables, treat you to dinner, coffee, etc., so don't hesitate to help them in any way you can. They are just starting but I can see this place working great! To get there you have to take the dirt road with the sign for the venado place and keep going for 300 mts. Then just ask anyone for the Valentin Camping and they will tell you where to go. Don't miss the explanation at the solar watch in the middle of the world by son and nephew of Valentin. They speak English too.

Dear Friends,
Let me tell you that now we have internet access!!
You are welcome to camp in this wonderful place in the middle of the world!!

Report Check-In

Beautiful quiet spot. Entrance from road hard to find - it's about half way up the hill from valley bottom towards Equator, after long bend in road (when going south). Bathroom is in cabin where another guest was sleeping so not available overnight. Very helpful and welcoming.

Report Check-In

Nice! Bathroom was clean. Valentin was super hospitable. We paid $10 donation for four of us (two adults, two kids 11 and 13) and bought 3 avocados for $1.

Report Check-In

We pulled up around 8pm and without anyone else in sight, set up our tent. The faint hint of noise was overshadowed by the enchanting glow of a powerful moon, peacefully lulling us to sleep by 9pm. After a marathon 11 hours of sleep, we woke up and packed up our tent with plans to head off to Quito ASAP. Of course, we had to pay for our stay, so we wandered over to the quaint home next door in search of Valentin. Instead, we found an adorable puppy and Valentin's niece Evelyn, who we paid $6 to.

Report Check-In

Very nice family, beautiful area, beautiful garden very quiet very safe nice short trail to walk along the rivers. Help support the locals !! No set price he asked for a donation to help continue to expand the campground.
