It's a nice place to take a break from the trip,
It has 6 rooms with private bathroom, wifi, restaurant only weekends, but also is available for the same traveler to cook. A large parking lot for Campers. Its owners are very polite and friendly attentive to resolve Concerns. To communicate with Mario you can use the WhatsApp + 591 679 22720. Highly Recommended.
In addition, the history of this country side house belonged to the Aramayo the baron of the tin, and according to this, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid went by to rob Mr Aramayo.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The owner is welcoming but the entrance seems abandoned with many objects of all kinds. The toilets are very dirty like they haven't been cleaned for a long time. It's not a good experience and I do not recommend.
Report Check-InGreat place to stay in Tupiza. Lots of spaces, toilets, great shower, water. They have a laundry service for 10bob/kg super quick and efficient.
Mario offers storage service too if you want to let your vehicle during a tour or something.
Great place to stay for a few days near the centre of Tupiza. We had a good experience, the owner and his brother arevery friendly and brew some great beers!
Report Check-InBeen there with other French people. Beware, the place is convenient but the guy is a crook. he offered to another tourist to take plates from a car that was in his backyard, as collection items, and now (3 weeks later) he contacted this group member saying that this was a car impeded by police, that they had the CCTV videos, and that he needs a lot of money to bribe them... be careful if you stay there.
Good campsite in walking distance to a very interesting town with a lot to discover. Yes, waste is a problem but its not on us foreigen overlanders to educate locals We collected some waste and put a hatch on the waste basked. Toilette OK, shower not really useable. Stayed there three nights.
Report Check-InIt is more like a parking lot than campsite but it is the only one in city. Owner is nice, price still 20b/pppn. Facilities not really working, only one toilet. Owner told us it just get stuck and he will repair the others but nothing happened. It is a pity. Good for one night.
Report Check-InCould be a perfect spot if they maintained it more and picked up all the trash. Still 20B per person.
Report Check-InIt is indeed not a camping, but a very good place to stay the night. It's very peaceful and quiet. Very nice owner, good wifi and groceshops quite near. The toilet and showers are under construction and not the best you can imagine. But still a very good spot to spend the night for us.
Report Check-InRosmarie&Peter
We stayed here for one night because it’s the only place in Tupiza.
But honestly it’s not a camping, it’s a huge waste disposal all around!
Peaceful place. Short walk to central Tupiza. New bathrooms under construction: one toilet and one shower are operating. Price remains at 20 Bol per person per night. Sadly, it appears that the upkeep of the place seems to have suffered, perhaps due to covid. Lots of debris and garbage on the premises and it seems that no effort is being made to clean up. Mario is as friendly as ever.
Report Check-InStayed here for three nights after crossing the border. There’s a big gravel car park round the back of the house for rigs to use, would fit any size. The facilities are a little basic (shower not quite hot) but it’s only 20 BOB per person and the owner, Mario, is incredibly friendly and went out of his way to help us with a few issues so I would definitely recommend this place.
Report Check-InI really liked this spot. we also came for 2 nights and stayed for 5. Mario and his brother Jorge speak great English, Spanish, and french and invited us to a barbeque for lunch one day. the bathrooms are still under construction and seem close to finished, at least the stalls have doors now, but not on the only currently working shower. don't touch the shower head while taking a shower as it did shock me, hope that gets fixed soon! I took several showers here without incident so it's safe to use, but I'm 2m tall. otherwise large big open parking lot with room for a dozen cars with tons of shade trees to lounge under. no size restrictions. WiFi reaches all of the way to the garden area past the camping area and it's pretty strong. no home brew to try while we were there. 14km round trip walk to the end of the Inca canyon if you choose to walk from here like we did. COVID seems to have affected this area but with more travelers coming hopefully they get all of the trash picked up, the bathrooms finished, and restore this place to it's former glory. fun fact, this place was owned by a rich miner that was robbed by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid
Report Check-InExcellent place to stay in Tupiza. Safe and quiet, beautiful view of the mountains and starry sky at night. Mario is an amazing person. We paid 20bs p.p and stay overnight on parking, hot shower.
Excelente local para ficar em Tupiza. Seguro e tranquilo, linda vista das montanhas e céu estrelado a noite. Mario é uma pessoa incrível. Pagamos 20 bolivianos por pessoa e passamos a noite no estacionamento. Chuveiro quente.
Report Check-InVery nice and segure place, planty of space to park all kind of rigs. Bathroom with hot shower. The owner Mario is happy to wellcom overlander, also peopel who are traveling with ther own bicigels can instal sus belonginds on a flat ground in shadows. I recomend la casa del Barón to relax close to the city center.
Report Check-InPerfect place for vans and big rigs, electricity, water, fast wifi, loundary and hot shower. Good place to leave your vehicle when doing your Lipez's tour. Mario is very welcome and speak good french.
Report Check-InMario and his wife are wonderful people. They make their own beer, which is delicious. The campsite is in a beautiful setting right under the red rock mountains. Nice place for campfires. Easy 15 minute walk to town center.
At time of writing, there was still no hot water shower, or door on the shower, and we wish the toilets were cleaned a bit more often. Although the electrician is supposed to come any day to fix the shower.
But we still very much enjoyed our stay and would stay again here.
Report Check-Inwe came here with high expectations but didnt stay at the end because showers and toilet are under construction, dont have doors so absolutely no privacy. also the parking lot where we would have been supposed to camp was full of garbage,so not very nice. kitchen was dirty also. maybe we came in a wrong moment.
still 20bob pp.
we decided to wildcamp close to the cemetery.
The place is nice but ATTENTION!! do not leave shoes or clothes outside the tent or van since the dogs tend to steal and destroy them.. Sad personal experience..
The owner was nice though and we reached an agreement (including he gave me back the 20bb of the night)
Best place ever!
After the fabulous drive from Uyuni, this place is the best place you could have the good fortune to stay.
I stayed a week.
Mario & Monica plus kids are a delight.
Comments from other travelers confirm this is a 'must visit' place.
Five minutes walk to town with everything you need.
Relaxed and welcoming campsite! We parked behind the main house on the upper level, met other overlanders, and had a bonfire on our first night. The bathrooms were clean and the showers very hot. I liked that they had washer/dryer on site and that our laundry was done in just a few hours! Plenty of green areas and trees for our kitties to play around and hide.
Thank you Mario and Monica for a nice stay.
It is a great place to stay, no matter if you come by motorhome, tent or using a hostel room. We felt very welcomed by Mario and his family. He speaks English very well and his wife even German. Hot shower and all other things available what you need. I can really recommend this place!
Report Check-InAt first, we were doubting about going to a camping, and finally we totally recommend this place! We stayed 2 nights there, and we didn’t want to leave!
Everything was said before:
- The place is great! Very peaceful, quite and completely safe. Only 10min walking from the center, very close!
- Mario is extremely friendly and helpful! He speaks perfectly English, French and Spanish. He even showed us his brewery which was very interesting.
- Bathroom is clean, and water is hot.
- We paid 15bs pp/night, so it’s very fair.
perfect place to stay in topuza with the van. Mario and his wife are super kind, really a pleasure to be here!
Report Check-InArrived there without previous contact during pandemic (with simple tent but accompanied by two travellers in a van also). Clearly with the pandemic Mario has been concentrating on other things and yet he received us so kindly. He’s super nice, the place is great. And since hot water was out, we got a great price (but no hot water haha). Quality wifi. I stayed 4 nights and the others a week.
Report Check-InWe planned to stay 2 nights and instead stayed there 5 because not only Tupiza happened to be a very nice place, the city as well as the attractions, but also because Mario was a great host... As well as an excellent brewer!
We warmly recommend this place, and advise you to do a horse tour, for instance in the Canon del Inca (count 3 hours and 240 bols for 2 ppl), with Gabriella from the Amazonas Centro Ecuestro (already referenced in iOverlander). Mario organized it for us and it was perfect!
Due to missing Overlander during Corona-time, Mario specialized himself in beer-production and improved it very well. His handcraft-beer is to be recommend.
All other as already described above.
Report Check-InAs described a great Overlanders spot. They gave us refuge in the heart of the Corona virus outbreak and quarantine , enough said.
Report Check-InGreat place! Mario is a very friendly, relaxed and helpfull host. He helped with some skillfull mechanics, did perfect laundry (10 bol/kg) and served delicious cinnamon rolls. Shower is nice and hot. Quite a few other overlanders a well. Very much recommended!
Report Check-InBest place ever. Mario is insanely friendly and helpful, perfect English too. Cheap quick laundry also.
Report Check-InPeaceful, even on a Saturday night. 25bol pp/pn. Easy for big rigs, level surface. Laundry (5bol per kg). Friendly helpful staff. Monica speaks English. Good wifi. Bathroom situation could be improved! Not easy to find as no signage. Go to end of road to green gates (permanently open?) and go around the back of the big house.
Report Check-InSuper nice camping site with a very friendly and helpful owner. Ask for their homemade bread!
Report Check-InPerfect place to stay while venturing into Tupiza and the surrounding area. Lots of space for all kinds of cars. Very safe. Bathrooms with toilet and hot shower. Cheap laundry service. We paid 25bol pp for the night. Mario is a great host who will help you with everything you need. Highly recommended.
This was our first stop in Bolivia, it was great! Mario is so kind and will help you with whatever you need. When we were there it was really crowded and we met a lot of other overlanders. During our trip to Laguna Route we could leave the van for only 10 Bol. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InNice place to stay. Place for all kind of motorhomes.
Super friendly owner Mario and his wife Mónica.
They are making lots of construction to make the place nicer and more comfortable.
Laundry Service: 10 B per kilo.
Camping: 25 B per person. Wifi and electricity.
Mario and his family were super super great hosts! We stayed 11 nights and felt like part of the family!
We loved Mario's delicious beer and honey! His brother Mauricio makes fresh bread every day and now even amazing sourdough bread! A must try!
The camping is located in a beautiful spot surrounded by the mountain range and within walking distance to the city centre and the central market!
Facilities included the kitchen in their house and the bathroom. They are planning on building a kitchen and bathroom outside just for the overlanders!
25B$/person per night; 10B$ to just park the car over night if you want to go on the Uyuni lagunas tour.
Thanks again for being such great hosts! :)
Report Check-InGreat place, Mario and his family are very hospitable & welcoming, Mario dose a great walking tour of Tupiza, highly recommend. Stayed 4 nights 50bob per night 2 people with van.
Report Check-InStay there 3 night and left the car 3 others to do the tour.
Mario is super friendly and very nice, he had good bbq with him.
the surrounding are nice and 15 min walking to the center and the market.
Only note that you can use the shower and the kitchen in Mario's dad house and tbe fácil are not clean at all.
Despite that very nice host.
went there, ok place, the old guy is super nice. Mario was only interested in our friend who wanted to do laguna route with tour company he recomended. Took us also to a mechanic he knew to repair brakes on the car. long story short - he destroyed the brakes and caused us a lot more troubles. was nice place just dont rely on any recomendation or help from them.
Report Check-InAs said below. Friendly and safe place in Tupiza. 20bol per person with shower, kitchen & common room.
Buy the tasty beer Mario is brewing!
One of the best camps you can pay for. Nice hot shower, fast wifi, super friendly owners, and some extras (don't miss Mario's home brewery tour!). 2 dogs that are friendly as well and our pup loved to play with. Mario even set us up with a vet appointment that we needed. All in all a great place, don't miss this one.
Report Check-InNice place to stay before the border. We originally planned to stay for 2 nights but when we arrived there were already 6 overland vehicles here and by the night there were over 20 people staying there all sharing 1 toilet! Although it later transpired there was a second toilet which we aren't sure why mario kept that secret. Either way, really good Wifi to do blogs & upload photos etc.
Report Check-Invery Hospitable, plenty of room, for my Toyota 4runner, also quite a few other vehicles, so greatto talk to other travellers. Mario, the owner cooked pizza, in the over, great such a good vibe, and hot shower. note when having a shower don,t put your cloths on the floor!
Report Check-InVery nice place with very nice owners.
How I would call it... The house of the many talents. :)
I would totally recommend...
Come try it out... It's the best :)
We spent here two nights and it was just amazing. Friendly people, everything is clean, hot shower, ... . Highly recommended. 40BOB/night (2+van)
Report Check-InAwesome place, firepit, kitchen, hot shower, all the family is super friendly. Very quiet, had a great time there, resting after Saltar and South Lipez. You can leave your vehicle for 10 per day. And do your laundry for 10 per kilos.
Really recommended !
Price : 20ppn
Report Check-InReally awesome place to camp with a motorcycle. Just on the edge of town, behind the barons house. Smooth, flat ground. Tranquil. Access to a good kitchen and bathroom and water. He charged us 20bob Pp.
Report Check-InWe arrived at this beautiful house in a fabulous setting overlooking Tupiza, and still at walking distance to the main plaza. All facilities mentioned in previous posts were available for us upon request. We only used the bathroom.
We were greeted warmly by the kind family running the place. Especially the father of the family who engaged in thrilling conversations over mate, and Mario and his wife Monica who are great company, very interesting and super helpful.
Truly recommended.
A good place to explore Tupiza and the surrounding area. Suitable for big rigs. Water and good WiFi are available. Showers and toilets can be used in one of the hostel rooms, but we didn't. The owner family Pereira is very friendly and helpful. They speak Spanish, English and one speaks even German. On request they offer a lot of services like laundry, dinner, help with repairs. We made a horse riding tour to the Canyon del Inca, which was organized by Jorge Junior. Highly recommendable. Price was 150 bobs per person for 3 hours.
Report Check-InIt's a nice place to take a break from the trip,
