Description

UPDATE 2/2020: Closed due to renovation works on the building! Sent to Karasu bordercrossing.

Leaving Kazakhstan took a very long time. Maybe this was because it was Sunday evening. There was a long line of cars. And occasionally the gate opened to let in some cars again. Only the driver is allowed to stay at the car, the passengers have to go through the passenger hall. At the passenger hall it was incredibly crowded and everyone was pushing. I felt like a sardine and it took a long time. The car was hardly checked. So if there is a row of cars, I recommend that the passengers try to cross the border allready, because for the passenger it takes longer than the driver.

At Kazakh border managed to beat the queue with the help of soldiers. Make sure you write your vehicle number at the piece of paper they have at the custom counter and ensure that they stamp it to give to the border control area. Pass your passport, your vehicle documents and the piece of paper that you wrote your vehicle number with to the custom officer for him to stamp it.

At kyrgyzstan border
Stamp out of the country within 15 mins and didnt checked ny bags. they didn't give me any TIP papers even after asking them. Hopefully I could exit Osh peacefully.

Report Check-In

Went Saturday morning at 8:00, both sides together took only one hour. Generally friendly and easy (also with a dog - Kazakh side wanted to see pet passport). Also got x-ray scanned.

Report Check-In

Very fast border for us (1h10min) on a Thursday at noon.

Kazakh side 1h and the officers were a bit unfriendly but no further problems. We had to go through x-rays and they also checked the interior of the vehicle, that took a little extra time.

Kyrgyzstan side very fast (10min) and very friendly officers. A small check of the interior of the vehicle and nothing more. The queue to enter the passport register was chaos, cars colliding with each other, slipping, one even collided with the barrier while the officer was lowering it and the officer said nothing... so be patient.

Big border complex open to all nationalities. Kyrgyzstan to Kazachstan with a van and dog took 2,5 hours. Not great, not terrible.

We went on a Monday at 16.00, so it was very crowded. I can imagine it all goes way quicker outside rush hours, as we spend most time in a traffic jam in front of the border. Border guards were quick and professional. Passengers have to go separate. Nobody cared about the dog. Only ‘downside’ is that we had to xray, that took some extra time. We heard most foreigners/vans have to, the rest just gets a quick visual inspection of the car. Nothing to pay, we could keep our Kyrgyz import document and didn’t need to import in Kazachstan.

Now open for all nationalities.
We did "visa extension" for Kazakhstan here.
We left our camper at the parking lot/autobus stop/taxi station on the NW side of the border post in Kazakhstan (paid 500 Tenge to the guy supervising the parking area upon departure). We then walked through the pedestrian border, out of Kazakhstan, into Kyrgyzstan, then across the street and back out of Kyrgyzstan and into Kazakhstan. Total process around 1 hour 30 minutes on a not so busy Wednesday afternoon.

Report Check-In

Currently closed for all nationalities except Kazakh or Kyrgyzian due to renovation works on the building. We don’t know when it opens again. We were sent to the bordercrossing 16km to the east, Karasu.
