Description

A new refugio built next to the older shelter (which is just a bit dirty but good). Firewood is tricky to find if you don’t have. There is a new wood stove to make fire in and sleeping place upstairs. Water can be filled up at the river about 4-500m downhill. These refugios are part of a project by the Porvenir Municipality along the remote roads. They’re really cool actually.

Latest Check-Ins

No flume for the wood stove so unable to use. Windows leak when it rains. Door doesn't shut properly. Sleeping area is quite clean. Pit toilet is still dreadful. Bins haven't been emptied for a long time.

Seen worse than this one though.

Report Check-In

Great cyclists’ refugio - in better shape than any of the other ones from porvenir to here. The stove is still intact and there’s a brush to sweep up.

Report Check-In

Parking lot for refugio. There is some wc that we didn’t use it. Big rig friendly, quiet eat night. Perfect before or after pinguin. Little wind protection.

Report Check-In

Stayed for one night in our van next to the refugio. Refugio was clean. Nice view and close to the pinguïn center.

Report Check-In

Slept here before seeing penguins. Slept 6 people in the shelter which was pretty crowded but worked. A nice place but the toilet did smell a bit

Report Check-In

Easy access by gravel road and 3 min away from the Pingouin reserva. Spent 1 night in our van. Very filthy toilet impossible to use. Extremely windy, no wind shelter. Probably one of our worst night in Patagonia so far.... Does the job for 1 night though because not a lot of other options around...

Report Check-In

Very windy place, didn't thind space whitout... Ok for one night, but not good night.

Report Check-In

Slept here before going to the Pingouin Rey Reserve but omg sooooo windy ! One of the worst night we had in Patagonia.

Report Check-In

Okay campsite, the camp spot is flat on soil. Extremely windy and no wind protection even when parked directly next to the building. Safe Toilet very basic. Safe, barely any passing traffic.
Perfect for visiting the king pinguins, take the 10.00 am tour and you will be one of the few (since the Ferry does not arrive that early)

Report Check-In

Shelter still in quite good condition. Just the toilet hast not been cleaned for a while. Serious toilet smell inside the Refugio.

Report Check-In

Parking at the shelters, quite good wind protection. The new refugio is quite nice and in good condition.

Report Check-In

still looked good. Could park our cab next to the Refugio for some shelter from the wind

This is a great shelter offered by the Municipality of Porvenir. It's such a shame some people don't respect the place...
We had to spend some time cleaning before being able to eat in there. Table with benches and a ladder to sleep up there. The stove is still here in this one but no door (someone even brought some firewood!). Pit toilets next to the refugio.

Report Check-In

nice Refugio with a stove, but the door of the stove is missing, so please be careful with the smoke

Great spot, parked the campervan there. Toilet available as well. Take your trash don’t put it in the trashcan as it might take a while before they pick it up!

Report Check-In

We arrived short before 6 pm at Parque Pingüino Rey and they send us here to stay overnight in our camper.

Report Check-In

Nice little shelter (there are two actually!). You can sleep inside but also pitch a tent outside as well as park your campervan. The new refugio is pretty cool and has a stove. Please keep it clean, take your trash and don’t write on the walls!

Report Check-In

Good condition, clean. We found lots of fire wood on the surrounding fields. Very hot at night with the fire on! You can watch sunset from the windows.

Report Check-In

Two refugio just. The new one with an elevated platform with room for two sleeping. Benches, table and wood stove.
The old one has foam mattresses on the bunk bed, a table and benches and a large wood stove but no windows. Much more rustic but still fairly clean despite the smokey decor.

Report Check-In

Still has the woodburner! I repeat, the woodburner is still there!

Report Check-In

Lovely spot, the new refugio is great. Quite small with room to sleep only two comfortably, but the old refugio is still there next to it so if there are extra people some can sleep there.

Report Check-In

Nice place for overnight parking or tent. It is close to the coast and pinguinos park. The toilet was quite dirty when we were there, but it was really crowded at that time.

Report Check-In

Nice place, stayed in the brand new refugio to visit the pinguïns. (the pinguino rey national park is closed on mondays!)

Report Check-In

good spot, little wind protection, stayed with camper van

stove, table with benches, 2 bed with mattress, quite clean and extremely water and windproof

Report Check-In

As others did we came the day before visiting penguins as it's Monday so not open. Great views of the bay. 3G Entel signal too!

Report Check-In

We parked here directly behind the hut to get some wind shelter. Very quiet.

Report Check-In

We parked here for one night before going to the penguin colony the next day. We liked parking up here because you get a view of the bay and have a little wind protection due to the small shelter.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot. Close by the penguin colony and the shelter is perfect for windy days. Left a few beers here - come and get it! Also collected to much firewood. And one more little treat... for any couple stopping here for the night wanting to make a fire; does your partner think of themselves as an “outdoorsy” person but you know they’re from the city? Has the Patagonian, wind, rain, cold, and endless Kilometers bruised their ego? Is not being able to light the fire going to be the “straw that breaks the camels back” and shatter any remaining self-delusion leaving them in tears? There’s a little bottle of gasoline under the table. A few drops of that when they’re not looking and voila - fire!

Report Check-In

great view and penguin colony just 2km away. flat grassy area. no wind 14 degrees perfect. not sure if it is windy?

Report Check-In

basic stove , table and 2 beds, perfect hutt!

Panamericanissimo...

Report Check-In

Good spot near the Penguins Rey Park. Nice view

Report Check-In

Definitely the best spot for camping. We had the time to tour around these sites looking for the ideal place, since we arrived just after 18:00 and found the park closed.
Not very good shelter, but good enough for one night.
We could even see the penguins with our zoom lens (100-400mm) from here, however, very far away.

Report Check-In

we stayed here one night and everything was o.k. no facilitys are here but there is an basic shelter with two bunks and an oven. Good for bikers. Maybe you need your owen firewood.

Report Check-In

Nice and quiet. Wind died down after dark but it got cold, -1 Celsius.

Report Check-In

Good for overnight stop. Stove in hut if you have wood.

Report Check-In

Camped here after visiting the King Penguins at the reserve less than 2kms away, there were over 100 penguins at the reserve and the officers here are very helpful and friendly....definitely worth a visit. Windy but pleasant grassy spot with easy parking and nice views north towards the bay and the reserve. It is 15kms from the junction to Porvenir on the Cameron road.

Report Check-In

Good place to stay if you're checking out the penguin colony the next day. Flat, grassy spot with some shelter from the wind.
