Description

Nice pull-out on Gibraltar Road, in Los Padres National Forest. It has beautiful views of Santa Barbara and the ocean. Enough place for 4 cars or vans, 2 small RV or 1 big RV. No toilet facility. Quiet at night, few cars driving on this road.

As of now the road to this spot is closed, once you get about half way up the mountain. No idea when it will open again. My GPS does give an alternate route, but it’s like an hour plus from town, so I just stayed in town instead.

Report Check-In

On google maps you might see road closed through Dec 2024 and it wouldn’t show a driving route. Not true, everything is open. Beautiful ocean view here and on the way here. Right by some flat as well as scrambling hiking trails

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot ! Plenty of pull offs along the way. Quite windy like others have mentioned but the sunset is worth it in exchange. Road “closed” to thru traffic with a sign at the base of the mountain but can still come up, passed a few cars and one van on the way up. Highly recommend !

Report Check-In

nice pull out at a trail head, not a lot of traffic and space for a few campers

Report Check-In

Good overlook supposedly, about a mile down the road I entered the cloud layer and couldn’t see much driving up. Only one other person here when I got here, and they left one I rolled up. Some decent flat spots, and only signs I saw were for no shooting! Will definitely come back.

Report Check-In

Super quiet. Somewhat uneven ground and muddy. Not too many cars pass by either.

Report Check-In

Quiet road, amazing view both to the sea and to The Valley. A bit foggy in the morning, but the sunrise and the views make up for it! Big recommendation!

2 bars of T-mobile reception.

There are no signs in regards to parking, so I believe it is fine to stay here.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot! Was here with two other cars. A little foggy in the morning, but overall an amazing spot to see the sunset. Lots of areas of the road blocked off because of road breakage. Would recommend to drive during the daytime and go slow!!

Report Check-In

Arrived at night which was a little scary and it was very windy but woke up to a stunning view. Lots of cars were camping along the road to get to this spot which felt like a good sign. Overall would stay again!

Report Check-In

Road is still closed, theres an opening but didn’t feel like trying it while towing a trailer

Report Check-In

Road is closed on 02.10.2023. Disappointed the view seemed insane!

Report Check-In

We arrived for the end of the sunset from the coast. The road is marked closed but you can pass. But it's broken, washed or there are stones on the side because of the last big storm. So that makes the road more narrow than usual ! With our Dodge Grand Caravan it was easy and the night was perfect. You can spend time next to your car hidden from the road so that's comfy :). The sunrise is amazing. The trail just next to it is very deep so we did just 20min of it.

Stayed here for 3 nights; everything practical that should be said hass already been said but I do want to comment and make clear that this spot can get very windy, the locals up the hill definitely don’t want you here and there is a LOT of glass on the right side where the MTB trial starts. But otherwise it’s a decent place to crash near Santa Barbara only 20 mins from downtown. The road up has some short turns, but the views are amazing. Later I stayed further up in Los Padres National Forest in the hills near Goleta which you can get to by taking the 154 up (which is a lot easier to drive up) and I wished I’d stayed there for all of my nights. A lot less wind with the same conditions, no angry people glaring at you, no glass, still amazing views. Up to you!

stayed 2 nights without problem. few traffic and some cyclists in the morning. nice spot not far from town

Report Check-In

Nice pullout, felt safe. Very quiet at night. Another car was parked there too. Amazing view on the ocean.

Report Check-In

Pulled in at night, winding roads to get here, beautiful sky view and looks to be a trail next to me. Looking forward to seeing it in morning

Report Check-In

Perfect place to overnight. We were two van. Nobody came. Beautiful spot with super view 💥

Report Check-In

One of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed. Slightly sketchy drive up a narrow twisty mountain road especially at night, but totally worth it. Amazing views, very quiet except the occasional slow passing car. 3 other vans here when I was

Report Check-In

Great place! We stayed there for one night in our tent, only one other RV was there. Great view and very quiet at night.

Report Check-In

really pretty views, but the steep road was tough on the van. i felt pretty unwelcome by the locals and there was a good amount of traffic all night/morning. super windy too, like shaking the car and waking you up 3am windy. might’ve just been an unlucky night. i checked the spot a bit higher up and there were a group of sketchy people that looked pretty set up in the spot. didn’t stay there.

Report Check-In

far up on a very twisty paved road. no issues for 2wd car, but can get very foggy. had full service with Verizon and TMobile

Report Check-In

Very steep road for a Mercedes 170 van but very quiet and only two other people here is a great spot

Report Check-In

Stopped and climbed the hill for sunset. But moved on up the mountain (much better views up higher). I think big rigs can easily make it up higher but it will be slow going. Worth it in my opinion tho.

Report Check-In

Great place for a night or two! Great views and a nice hike.

Report Check-In

Beautiful drive with stunning views up this mountain. Perfect spot to spend the night, had no problems. As others have noted, we heard a car or two speed racing up the mountain around 11pm, and between 1-4am there was crazy howling winds that kept us awake for a bit. Woke up for the sunrise, very recommended. No bathrooms or facilities here.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, fairly quiet, other than the few local cars who were going up the hill tires squealing between 8 and 10 pm. There were some other vans there, all nice people, felt very safe. There was a serious wind howling through the valley till about 8 pm, but after that the night was calm and beautiful. Great spot! We were told there was a waterfall nearby, too bad we didn’t have time to hike to it!!!

Report Check-In

Nice spot to stop. While one big RV could fit up here as another commenter noted, I don't think it would be wise given the narrow winding roads.

Report Check-In

Lots of pull outs on this road. No problem parking overnight. Beautiful sunset. Do make sure your completely off the road though because I stayed on a Friday night and close to midnight there were a few speed racers going up the hill.

Report Check-In

Great spot, enough space for multiple vehicles. Cell reception is good on ATT and Verizon. Great view

Report Check-In

wow this place is incredible! up a slow windy road but sooooo worth it. wake up to incredible mountain/city/ocean views. Gorgeous sunset, hiking trails. This is amazing! enjoyed this spot so much.

Report Check-In

nice spot, didn't sleep here but saw many other campers. popular spot due to the trail and view.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for a night! Chill pullout with a super nice view of the beach. There’s a hiking trail right next to the pullout too

Report Check-In

Such a rad spot!! There’s pullouts all along Gibraltar road. We drove quite a ways higher and camped at a little pull off with beautiful views!
Not much traffic at all.
10/10 recommend.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot with an even more remarkable sunset.

Report Check-In

Worked well for a night! Plenty of space, only one other car stayed up there. Got very windy in the morning, don’t leave anything out

Report Check-In

Great view. Some cars at sunset then everyone leaves and place to yourself. Drive up the road to find more spots

Report Check-In

This spot is AWESOME! The road up here wasn't too bad at all. There were a few other people hanging out and camping/maybe we'll make some friends!! 100% recommend :)

Bonus if you get here for the sunset...it's breathtaking.

Report Check-In

If you have a tent I would advise you to go as far as you can, so you don't have much traffic and bigger pullout just for yourself.
I take a road on the right, didn't have the big view on the see, but almost no body came there for the day and night I spend there.

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay. Close to the road. The pullout can be also a carpark for a beginning of a trail. We spent a good night there.

Report Check-In

Nice place up the hills of SB. Lot of space. ATT.

Report Check-In

Nice View and quiet at nighttime. In the morning many Mountainbiker and some hikers. Good place to stay for a night.

Report Check-In

Nice & easy pull-off on the side of a winding road.

We stayed here on a Tuesday night. There was 1 other car at the location. Definitely enough space for many cars and a couple RV’s. The only trouble might be your drive up- it gets a little steep but luckily the road is nicely paved the whole way. Unless you have a giant or super heavy rig, you’ll be fine.

View-wise, this is a GREAT spot! Beautiful sunrise & sunset view of SB and the ocean. There’s multiple hiking trails you can go up to get a better angle or camp with a tent. Enjoy!

Report Check-In

beautiful place to watch the sunset, worth the drive up the narrow and windy road for the views. big enough pullout just on the side of a sharp u turn bend on the road. we arrived at about 8pm and maybe 10 local cars drove past? one other car was there when we arrived. incredibly noisy from the wind through the valley- thought our dodge van was going to blow away it was that windy! still beautiful and no one bothered us.

Report Check-In

beautiful views, only 20 mins out of town. worth the drive up a very narrow windy road to watch the sunset. one other car parked here and maybe 10 cars drove past after we arrived at 8pm. incredibly noisy from the wind- thought our dodge van was going to get blown off the edge! big enough pullout just on side of a very tight u turn on the road but it was fine for the night!
