Description

We travel on the "Leão do Marajó" to Macapá (Santana). We slept in Porto the night before. We were able to cook and sleep inside our van. Staff very friendly. Recommend. They have security, guard, bathroom, drinking water.
We believe that big rigs wouldn't have problems (you can view the photos)

We booked the ship Leao de Marajo from Belem to Santana (Macapa). Easy and very good service. We payed for our Sprinter( 7 m long and 3 high) and 2 seniors BR 1400. On the ship you can go into your van if you like and we sleep in it. We also spent the night before in the harbour (noisy of course) and poor bathroom. Every friday on 12 o 'clock departure and arriving at 15:30 on saturday. Suitable for any size of rig. Recommended.

We took a ferry with our big rig from Macapa to Belem on the boat Leão do Marajo. Disembarked here. We reserved the space directly with Ivanil on WhatsApp. ( +55 91 9183-3464 ) He only speaks Portuguese so use Googletranslate. We paid the 50R fee to enter the port in Santana. Then paid 1,000Rfor the truck camper and 300Rfor two people once we were on board. We were allowed to sleep and cook in our camper. Our dogs were welcomed and treated kindly. There was some food for sale and also drinks, snacks and such. It is a beautiful ride, but it stops at many small ports through the night, sleep is challenging. Prepare baggies of items (old clothes, food, gifts) to throw to the villagers along the narrow passages. They paddle out in hopes you will toss something to them. Great experience for us between these two cities.

This was my first choice and was quoted 500 + 150 for my 6 meter camper and me, but.........In this week before the second sunday in October there are no ships sailing to Macapa at all. They are all used for the big happening Cirio de Nazare. My first ferry here would sail on the next Friday which was 9 days of waiting. They pointed me to Porto Lider which had their first boat on Monday. 50% more but 5 days of Belem was more than enough for me.

You can ship your vehicle to Macapa from here. Ivanil was very responsive on WhatsApp (see below). His boat leaves once a week. Belem - Macapa Fridays midday. He quoted us 900R for the van (5.2m long) + 300R for 2 passengers.

His return from Macapa to Belem is Tuesday at 10am from Porto do Grego in Santana.

Port of Leão do Marajó. I got to call the place directly (agencies charge a lot more) and ended up paying 500 for the car (Defender) and 150 for myself. The owner (Ivanil 91-99183-3464) said it usually costs 600+170.

We travel in "Leão do Marajó" to Macapá (Santana). We splet in Porto the night before. We paid $1000R (Mitsubishi Delica + 2 people). Other travelers paid the same price in August 2018. We were able to cook and sleep inside our van. Staff very friendly. Recommend to program the trip to macapa and ask if you can stay in Porto if you don't have another option. They have security, guard, bathrooms, drinking water and shower.
We believe that big rigs wouldn't problems (you can view the photos)
