Description

Tambopaxi is the only lodge inside the park, and one of four places where you can camp. The other camping sites are free but offer in one case only dirty toilets and in the other two cases no infrastructure at all. The hostel offers rooms and the restaurant serves good food but at higher-than-average prices. Camping is in front of their new lodge building which was just opening for business when we arrived. At over 12,000 feet it's cold and windy, so bring plenty of warm clothes. Campfires not allowed. See website for directions.

$18/pp and I think $9 for our 6 YO it’s high but at least you get breakfast in the morning. And the view of Cotopaxi is amazing! They let us use the lodge, but because we are camping they said we aren’t allowed to use the lodge but since there isn’t anyone here they said it’s okay.

Not sure we’ve spent this much on camping outside the U.S., but it was worth it. Stayed two nights. Parked in the parking lot with an unforgettable view of Cotopaxi. We used the Jeep as a shield from the wind, so we could cook on the north side. Camping is now $18/adult and $9/child per night. But breakfast (normally about $8.50) is included and it’s very lovely. We took a couple other meals in the lodge and they were yummy and refreshing. The lodge has good WiFi and a comfortable seating area if you just want to get out of the cold and wind. Met lots of nice people during our stay. Toilets only. Showers are $3 extra (we didn’t use them).

Excellent camp albeit cold and expensive. Restaurant and lobby area make up for it ;)

Camping, restaurante, apartamentos, hotel. Todo CARISIMO, sólo pensado para turista extranjero, pero no para viajeros nómadas.

Parked overnight in parking lot with access to bathrooms, *hot* shower, decent wifi in lounge, and big complimentary breakfast for $17.89. Wifi did not quite reach where I was parked. Even though GoogleMaps or MapsMe may advise you to take the North entrance, the South entrance is was better... I took my RWD van up the North road and it was very rough. The South road is mostly paved and takes a fraction of the time.

Loved our stay here! Very remote area, totally quiet night. Magical views of Cotopaxi. We were ready for that super nice hot shower and chill in the sitting area with good wifi. Very friendly people.
Drove up in the morning to the end of the road and hiked up to Refugio.

Still $7.31 pppn, use of bathroom, showers, lounge area and wifi included.
Beautiful view of the Cotopaxi.

There exist in total 4 legal campsites in the Cotopaxi NP. The only one private run (and that for to pay) is this one. But sure it is the nicest one.
The free ones are:
- 2km from Lagun Limpiopongo to the south
- in a valley between Limpiopongo and Cotopaxi
- east at a logun I dont remember the name

Had a hot chocolate ($2.50) kids said it was the best in South America. Beautiful view and we intended to camp until we found out it was $7.30 pp which for our family of 5 is overpriced since we are fully self contained. There are 3 free campgrounds down the road.

Excellent views of Cotopaxi and the best way to experience the park as we are not allowed to camp elsewhere since the volcano is active. Super nice staff, very clean bathrooms with hot showers and fast wifi in the restaurant. Recommended

We stayed in front of the hostel at the parking lot. Clean and hot showers with a lot of water :-)! WiFi available, no electricity. 7,31 USD/person including IVA and servicio for camping. We had a dinner-menu for 17 USD, expensive but very well. There are other camping options in NP Cotopaxi, for example at the lagoon which are for free. All in all 7,31 USD for hot showers and WiFi are quite expensive! The park rangers at the south entry let us in at 5.30 pm (officially entrance closed at 3 pm), after we told them we wanted to camp at Tambopaxi.
