We couldn’t find any free camp options so we pulled off the highway into a trail heading towards the beach. We parked off the main trail behind a dune and no one bothered us. The area is mostly hard pack sand with fairly big bushes and lots of wildflowers. 2wd ok but stay on the hard pack sand otherwise 4wd is preferable. Tecel 3G

Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
if you look at this area on google maps you'll see there are three wild camping spots a road that is perpendicular to the highway (this looks like a sandy road from the highway, and has the pillars).
A little further north there is a hypotenuse road which looks a lot more accessible (packed gravel---once you get through the sandy entry from the highway) which leads south and intersects with the perpendicular road. We chose this hypotenuse road with our 30 foot motorhome. This road is great for a bit but then comes to a washed out area, which 4x4s have bypassed by making a sandy detour.
We didn't feel we could make the detour in our motorhome, so parked near the washout that night and reversed back to a turnaround point in the morning.
You can see the washout on googlemaps if you zoom in.
It was reasonably quiet for being not too far off the highway.
Report Check-InGreat quiet spot for the night. A little bit sandy on the way up, no problem with 4x4.
Report Check-InSeems there are two sand roads that eventually cross. Maybe the northern one is better packed but the southern one was a bike pushing time all the way in for these road set up/loaded bikes. Good spot to camp though, nobody drove by and we set up not far from the main trail/road.
Report Check-InWe came down the sand road almost to the beach. Quiet, pretty, no one around, beach is very nice especially at low tide with lots of shells.
Report Check-InAmazing area to camp. Totally isolated and quiet. If you don’t have 4x4 don’t go much further from here, but with good traction you can get to the beach (I spent a few days here on my own) the last flat muddy area can get flooded with high tides (water coming from the south), so look out for full or new moon.
Report Check-InGot here late, took the more straight approach, sandy but packs down fairly good but had 4wd just in case. Went a little closer to the coast but not much farther, just down a road to the right. No one around all night, some trucks passed by in the AM.
In the morning we tried to get closer to the coast but ended up getting stuck in some sticky mud/sand took and eventually needed to use the maxtracks to get out. Nice spot that is close to SF and need a quick/easy spot for the night.
Report Check-Inamazing area with beach and desert camping areas. some 2wd accessible areas depending on condition but you will want 4wd and low air pressure in your tires to get on the beach. we spent a whole week here, had a few local expats coming by on quads but overall quiet and beautiful.
Report Check-InWe got stuck trying to get here, RWD Ford van. Eventually dug ourselves out and drove south.
Report Check-InThis spot deserves more credit. I’m watching an amazing sunset in a wildflower bloom between the sea of cortez and the distant mountains. Fine, white sands under my feet. My company is one giant cactus and a quire of bird song. 😊
