Description

On the coast past the city of La Cruz you will find Playa Cueta. It is a small stretch of beachside restaurants with a paved road on which you can park for free. When we arrived we turned right and drove to the end of the Malecon and parked on the flat pavement. After around 9pm no one drove down the road and it was quiet and dark. We did accidentally leave a pair of sandals outside our door for an hour and when we went back outside to get them they were gone. Taken literally right from under the door. Our own fault, we should have been more careful. No one seemed dangerous, but they will look for any opportunity they can find. Overall, this was a really nice place, good for long walks on the beach, affordable seafood and cervesas, great sunsets and listening to the waves crash on the beach as you fall asleep. La Cruz has all the amenities you might need, a Coppel (where you can buy new sandals ;p and use the bathrooms), grocery stores, gas, etc. We refuse to let our own carelessness ruin our enjoyment of this nice place.

I followed the tip to park pass the turtle campground, where it's a great and quiet location hearing just the waves, on a Monday.
the police just stopped by to check the beach at 10pm, and told me to do not worry, and keep resting

Stayed overnight towards the end of the malecón, to the right, on a Friday. Arrived just at sunset and found a spot between some cars that cleared out shortly after. Sat outside and had dinner and wine. Around 9 pm the place filled up with young adults drinking, playing music and just having a nice time at the beach. Nothing crazy or sketchy. Went to bed around midnight, woke up with the sun and everything was cleaned up and people out for their morning walks on the beach. We even saw a bunch of dolphins surfing in the waves.
I’m from Southern California and you would never score such a sweet spot for free like that. The jeneyneys (noseeums) were actively biting in the morning but not too bad.

I had lunch while parked on the malecon. Think I can do better than having traffic passing so close to the camper. Took the dirt road heading towards the turtle campground. Past the campground there are more than a couple of turn offs leading to the beach. Took one and stopped where the beach sand starts. Didn’t feel concerned about blocking the access, there’s many of them. Trash level is good, biting nats were bad. Stayed one night, no problem. An option would be to hang out here until dark then move back to the malecon after dark if security is an issue for you. Any vehicle can drive this road.

The previous posters must have stayed here on a weeknight because tonight, a Saturday, it has been an absolutely constant stream of cars driving by since nightfall, most blasting music, some with bass loud enough to shake our entire vehicle. A car with 4 large fellows parked behind us and had few drinks and talked noisily then drove off. Definitely would not stay here again, nor recommend it to others. Perhaps weeknights are different, but to me, the heavy traffic and intoxicated individuals do not make this seem like and ideal or safe spot. There are many other nice beach spots in the area that are quieter and safer to overnight at.
