Description

What an incredible experience. A highlight of Peru. Friendly locals, please be kind to them. We paid 15 soles pp entry at a gate a mile or so back and saw no other tourists. This is not a big tourist spot yet and if you see it soon before tons of tourists come you will be lucky. The ride is 2wd but a little steep but is well maintained. Any car will make it up be careful in a camper. We think it’s better than Machu Picchu. 5,000 meters.

Tried to go here but did not succeed. I don’t know how people could say it is a good road. The first part are only potholes 20-30kph. The second part is very steep and one car wide.
We drove in the afternoon and there was so much traffic going down that at one point we could not gain traction and were forced to roll down. After 1 hour we were 6km before Palcoyo village and not even halfway.
Incoming cars told us it would get steeper and narrower also. We decided sadly to take the loss and returned.

Taxi’s take 1.5 hours from the town, respect of people who did it in 50min

Considering the recommendations we thought it would be possible
Very sad, would have loved it but hope to help someone out with this update

Just awesome! All the comments below have it covered. We arrived at 3:30 pm, had the entire place to ourselves, and enjoyed wonderful later afternoon. Hiking to the second mountain makes for an incredible view, one of the best we have had in Peru. All along the road up from the highway we got a really good vibe, some of the friendliest smiles and waves in a long long time.

Amazing place. The colored mountains are just part of the scene. Dog friendly. Make sure you climb up to the rock forest for the best views. We drove up at 6:30am from the good camping spot along the road here and did not have any oncoming traffic and the place to ourselves. Took about 50 min. We are 3.3h and 2.67wide. Road is in good condition, but narrow as others have stated.

Stunning! We arrived at 4pm and had it to ourselves. Still 15s per person, plus 50s to use a drone (they give you an official ticket). Really happy we paid for the drone because we got some epic shots! The hike is a nice, relatively flat path luckily, not difficult. Don’t miss it!

It cost now 15 Soles per person. Beautiful hike and we were alone at 9 in the morning. Absolutely worth it!

Gorgeous! We camped at the River Camp on the road to this the night before and got to the entrance at 7:30. Only three small groups on a Monday and we spent a couple hours taking in the beautiful scenery. Highly recommend. We decided to skip vinicunca after this as it was a great stop.

Absolutely beautiful! I’ve never been to a place quite like it. The villages leading up to the parking are seemingly untouched and pure. Some of the kiddos pointed us in the direction of the mountain. They were very curious about our van - hopping up to peak inside. We may come back in a few months to stay the night up here because we enjoyed it so much! 15s pp to enter and they’ll check the ticket at the base of the hike. 1s to use the restroom.

We visited today. We came by taxi from Combapata. We didn't want to go with our big rig up here, which was a good choice. Only 4 more cars up there, so very little people. We enjoyed very much. Despite the rain and hail at the end of our visit.

best time for light and pictures: start the hike at 9.00am and end around 11.30am.
you're welcome ;)
few collectivos, few people today (monday)

Dont get your expectations to high for having the place all to yourself, tours do come here, although for sure its less crowded than the other rainbow site. if you are early or late than perhaps you'll see less people.
comparing the two rainbow mountain sites we like this one better - cleaner, maintained trail, more diverse and to our taste more beautiful.
10 sol pp.

The road to get there is not the easiest and shortest but for us definitely worth it! Mind that the entrance is from 7 am till 4 pm. We arrived there after 4 and met the guard on the way. He was super nice and went up with us to open the gate and showed us around. Tourits only come in the morning, in the afternoon it's quiet and the light is great The views are spectacular, we agree that they are better than Machu Picchu. Definitely worth visiting!
