Canada
A provincial Recreation Site comprised of 3 campground areas and a day use area.
Most sites in Callaghan Camp and the North Site are pretty roomy. South Site is a bit more condensed - however South site has a few walk in sites that people often overlook ... South Site is also in the midst of getting an expansion, and the new sites in the expanded area look like they'll be roomy.
About 60 spots, $15 a night, and only garbage bin and pit toilet service. However water and sani-dump can be had for free about 15km North at the Function Junction Waste transfer location (closes at 6pm or 7pm each day).
Great river for kayaking. Beautiful forest. Suspension bridge. Sea to sky hike and bike trail passes through the Rec Site.
Seasonally closed each year from about Oct 31st - April 1st - however exact dates vary depending on snow levels.
This place gets it's name from being at the confluence of the Callaghan and Cheakamus Rivers - Cheakamus comes from the north (past North Camp), and the Callaghan comes from the west, past Callaghan camp. South Camp is at the confluence.
Note that the Cheak is downstream of Whistler's sewage plant but you wouldn't know it (no smell, etc)... I still wouldn't drink from it, though.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Camping first come first serve parfait car plusieurs terrains pour RV et d’autres pour des tentes
Report Check-InIt was impossible to find a place to camp without reservations from the ferry to Squamish. This campground is before Whistler and not far from the highway. It's a wonderful relief to leave the hustle and bustle and busy road into the woods and sounds of the rushing river. Ahh. It too is pretty full, but worth getting here early. The pit toilets need replacing with rotten walls, but having trash bins is a bonus. I'm grateful to have found it.
Report Check-In15$ pour un espace de camping calme, toilettes sèches (self check-in dans une enveloppe donc avoir le montant exact)
Report Check-InReally nice campground next to a raging creek. We are American and had to pay $12 usd. Dry camp pit toilets. Super chill. All of the campsites were full so we parked our 30’ bus in the large parking area. I highly recommend staying here.
Report Check-InAs described - excellent alternative to Whistler. Very quiet, plenty of space left.
Report Check-InExcellent place for big rigs.
stayed here with my 35" 5wheeler, and there is still plenty of space available.
Nice and quiet in beautifull forest. 15$ by honour. Some sites are very small. Bigger ones in first loop. Road is rocky to south sites.
Report Check-InGreat rec site! Big rigs skip past the first campground as it’s narrow with lots of stumps. We stayed in a newly built area as of July 1st (says a local repeat camper). Go along the south part of the road (turn right). Much bigger spots for rigs. No services and only one pit toilet. Very short walk to a suspension bridge overlooking the River.
Report Check-InGreat site. At confluence of two beautiful rivers. Fun suspension cable bridge over river with multiple trails nearby. Easy access to Whistler (10 min) and Squamish (50+ min). Very buggy but that didn’t diminish the experience for only $15 (CAN) / night. They were also expanding the number of sites while we were there. Would definitely stay here again.
Report Check-InSpent 3 nights here in just a local break from Whistler, lengthy & lovely hike to Brandywine Falls right from the camp site and plenty of other cool spots to explore
Report Check-InI stayed here frequently in the summer of 2021. It's close / practically in the middle of a lot of trails, there's a suspension bridge and it's actually quiet. Rate is now $15/nt. The signboard at the first campsite ("Callaghan Camp") has a good map of the 3 campsites.
The third site (South Camp) is in the midst of being expanded.
Report Check-InWe stayed at the Cal-Cheak north site for 2 nights, $15 per night and each site is well spread out. We were a 20 metre walk from the river which was nice. Would recommend getting in early in the afternoon especially on weekends as it filled up quickly with others passing through later that missed out. However there is 3 campgrounds total. 10 mins south of whistler it’s a great place to set up base and head in for the day and look around.
There is an abandoned camper in site #3 if everything is full you could pull in there (also behind it on the creek side is a heap of small wood that is great for starting your fire).
Nice forest campground. Self Check-in just 13CAD. Great, big spots. We‘d stayed two nights.
Report Check-InWe were looking for a primitive (no hookups) campground that would be convenient to hiking in the Whistler area. We're self-contained in our 8 meter (25 foot) MH and don't use the facilities. We stayed 4 weeknights in late September. The CG filled Tu/We and was 25% full TH/F. This is a nice primitive CG about 15 minutes south of Whistler Village. There are 3 loops: Cal-Cheak is the first on the right and the largest with mostly level dirt sites. Cal-Cheak North is next on the left and has a mix of small and large dirt sites, some right on the river, some needing leveling. Cal-Cheak South is next on the right and has smaller dirt sites, most will need some leveling. All sites are tucked into the trees and providing shade and some privacy and were a bit muddy after 3 days of rain. There's no water, no dump. There're pit toilets and trash. There're weak yet usable ATT/Rogers and Verizon cell signals. We stayed in the North loop and found noted no road noise and distant train noise.
Report Check-InBeautiful camping spot. Pit toilets. Very full, got lucky with a spot. You can hear the river. And I can hear the highway in the morning.
Report Check-InA reasonable campsite compared to other paid rec sites in BC. 13 bucks a night, we stayed in the loop furthest from main road (there are three loops) which seemed to offer no noise from highway and more seclusion. Right next to river and hiking bridge.
Report Check-InCame here on a Saturday at 4:00.
The place was crowded but we found a spot right by the river which isn’t on the map (24 and 25). Just drive a few meters further than the south side of the area and then take a left. Not suitable for RV’s.
cheap little campground just off the highway. there's the main campground where most rv pull into. we stayed at the north campground. nice with the river running right beside it. the south one was nice too, but the spots weren't too flat so we stayed at the north.
2 pit toilets, picnic table and fire pit.
got full around 7pm. most people seem to pull in late and leave early. though there were others who seemed to be set up for a while
Still $13 per night. Everything has been said already, although we found other Provincial Park campgrounds to be roomier and with more privacy. Definitely good value for money though!
Report Check-Innice BC recreational site, closed to Whistler. 13$, pit fires, pit toilets, picnic tables. Pretty suspension bridge ans beautiful River at the south part of the campground.
Report Check-InReally cool wooded area. Went without a reservation during July and arrived around noon with no issues finding a spot. It definitely filled up by the end of the night though. Pit toilets, fire pits, no showers. Really cool bridge and walk by a river nearby. Self registration for $13 a night.
Report Check-InAmazing campsites. The ones at the river (south site) are more spacious and more private. Fills up early in high season. We got one of the last sites around 5pm. Food containers available for tents.
Report Check-InBeautiful place near the river, only $13, you can make fire, the sound of the river is pretty noisy and no problem to find a spot in May
Report Check-InSuper nice sites by the river. Fire pits, toilets and picnic tables. Loved it !
Report Check-InGreat spot close to water and minutes from Whistler Olympic Park. 60 sites in three separate areas down this road.
Report Check-Intypical Forrest camp ground. $13.
some big rig spots, walk in first.
typical forest camp ground. $13 , private sites, fills fast on week end.
Report Check-Innow they charge 12,- CAD for that you get a firering full of garbage!!
no way
A provincial forest park. Roomy sites no services at sites. Pay 10$ at self registration sites. About 60 spots. Great river for kayaking. Beautiful forest. Sea to sky hike and bike trail passes through the park
