The road from Batopilas to Tubares is a one-lane gravel road which requires a 4x4 with high clearance. We needed three hours for the sixty km. Coming from Batopilas one first hast to cross a mountain pass of approx. 1,200 m. The next 25 km are quite good gravel and would not require 4x4. The last 15 km are the more difficult ones including the fording of the Rio Urique. Water depth at low water (1st March) was 50cm . The two arms of the river are each 30 m wide. After strong rainfalls it will be impossible to cross the river.
Currently there is a construction site 500m upstreams from where we crossed where workers are building a bridge. However, it will needed several more month until the bridge will bei completed. It is a road worth driving if you have the right vehicle and like scenic landscape.
