Description

Here is where you can park your rig if it is not 4x4 to do the hike to Cerro Amigos. The 4x4 road until the trailhead is tough and very steep.
The hike in the forest is super muddy (even in dry season) and with some obstacles but totally worth it!

We tried to park here for Cerro Amigos, there's lots of boulders in what might have been the parking spaces and a sign up saying not to park there. Otherwise the public road is good 👍
We camped at the top of the road the night before without problem.

we have parked here, but definitely is possible was possible to go upper, road is steep, the muddy part were not in the steep side, if it didn't rain few days before probably doable even with a decent 2wd and good tyres, the only thing... I don't know if it is worth the effort , it is really steep

We expected more of a parking lot, but this is just a pull off. Space for one rig only. We chose to park just up the hill a few metres on the left, the road is surprisingly busy and being on the smaller road was much quieter and had a bit more space. Added photos of both parking options. We walked from here but at time of writing chains not necessary, its is steep and gravel however. Hike was lovely, not too much wildlife but great views and beautiful forest. Its possible to do a circular walk following maps.me, see photo.

Good place to stop for the night after the hike as well. The road is surprisingly busy, but everyone is just passing by and it's otherwise quiet and protected from the wind.

I wouldn't attempt the road up to Cerro Amigo from here with anything bigger than a 4x4 pickup, it's super steep and single lane. The road is wide enough for a regular car all the way up, but the last part is slippery clay (and you might need 4x4 + chains). I would say you definitely need a low gear 4x4 to attempt it.

made it 1/3 of the way up the trail by truck but it became too muddy and parked in a big pullout. hike was very very difficult with scattered showers. Local trucks are all using 4lo and snow chains to go up
