I have stayed in another SWFWMD campsite before and as always it has been a great experience. There were two other campers but everyone kept to themselves. Very quiet and secluded yet about 1 mile away from Publix grocery store. The site is flat, there is o portable potty ( we never used it) and non potable water found in the back.
Great spot!
This place is great. Can’t believe it’s free. Book your camping trip for free online, receive the gate code which will take you to the little dirt road — hard packed but bumpy at times — leading to the camp ground. Safe, spacious, and beautiful. Our only regret was not staying longer. When we visited there were only two other campers. Big open pine clearing with a little shade. The outhouse was a horror show so we didn’t use it, but everything else was awesome. The hiking trails, marked by numbered intersections (map online), take you from thick palm jungle to cypress bogs to marshes to the river. We saw an owl and several sandhill cranes.
Report Check-InOak Ridge Equestrian area of the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve is free with online reservation through the Southwest Florida Water Management. Once you reserve you will get the code for the gate.
Report Check-InGreat area! Free, no water, no electricity, gas stations and grocery a mile away. Felt safe with other campers. Website to book was a little finicky but with some patience got a site. About a half mile down the dirt road on the left, park where you fit, clean up after yourself and be courteous:) Happy Camping!
Report Check-InSmall clearing in the woods that has about 10 spots. We stayed in a Sprinter van, but there were also several tents and one large airstream. It's great that it's free, just make sure they send you the right gate code (use the lock that has REC carved into it). Outhouse and non-potable water available.
