City parking lot... free after 6pm. It is a paid parking lot between 7am-6pm. Sign says "no overnight parking" in the end lot. Right next to train tracks.. only heard one train about 9pm and nothing until 6am.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
says no overnight while also saying alternate your spots each night. I slept there 3 nights in a row with no issues. there are at least 10 other vans and trucks there doing the same thing. I didn't alternate my spots and had no issues, but I didn't snow at all so that might be why.
Report Check-InThe signs indicating which side to park for overnighting have been removed since 2/12/24, with only the "No Parking 10pm-5am November-May" remaining. However, several vans parked overnight and there were no problems. Majority of the overnighting cars had employee parking placards.
Report Check-InFor the winter, you need to go all the way to the end, to 39°19'47.5"N 120°10'39.0"W. Signs say NO PARKING after 10pm, but other signs indicate which spots are legal for overnighting on alternating days of the week.
Report Check-InOvernight lot is the furthest from the train station. Make sure to read the sign, park at correct side based on which weekday it is.
Report Check-InSlept here for 2nights in a row. Super mellow. Be sure to park on the ride side depending on the day. You have to go all the way down the parking lot. There where at least 10rv/campers parked there. Only negative thing is the train.
Report Check-InStayed the night after a storm day. A couple other vehicles in the lot. Plow came through in the night and did the other side. Signs are somewhat ambiguous; there's one that says no parking overnight from November to April and then another sign that just says "overnight ". Not hassled today but I think I will try to stay elsewhere when possible during the winter.
Report Check-InStayed one night with at least 5 other vans and RVs. No issues only heard one train. Will probably continue to stay here.
Update: stayed night of snow, still no issues. Insider tip from a local tow truck employee said they don’t bother you if you stay at the rec center as long as your park in the back but didn’t test it out
Report Check-InSpent the last 3 nights here. Signs are a bit confusing. Some say no overnight others say overnight ok. They do want you to alternate sides depending on the day. I think this may be for snow plowing purposes.
Report Check-InStayed here on a Friday night. Seemed safe and quiet. A few other campers around. Left at 8am but no trouble. Go right down to the car park beyond the level crossing.
Report Check-InSpent 3 nights here while we explored Lake Tahoe area! Level lot with good cell service within walking distance of restaurants and retail. Go past all the railroad tracks and road ends into this lot. Really nice place please keep it that way for others!
Report Check-InPerfect spot for the night. A few other vans were here. Only one train came by in the middle of the night. Make sure you use the google maps link because the coordinates will take you to the wrong place.
Report Check-InOvernight parking is allowed in the whole parking lot after crossing the train tracks. The allowed days are alternating between the left and right hand side (probably to prohibit anyone from making a permanent home).
When walking in the direction of the town, right after the snowshovel train display, you'll find a portaloo that is cleaned once a week. Also the streetlights have electricity sockets (we did not test them). The walk to the main street with all the shops and restaurants is short.
Lastly, the few trains that come by at night are LOUD.
Report Check-Inovernight parking is only allowed on the very east side of the parking lot, seems like the coordinates are off on the map. there /are/ signs that say “overnight parking”, but you have to drive all the way down to find them. they say specific days of the week on them, i don’t know if that’s enforced. we stayed on a saturday night (which was an approved day of the week on the sign) and had no issues— just loud trains. but walking distance to downtown! felt safe. there were other vans parked.
Report Check-InSpent this night here as cleared spots are tough to find in winter. Signed no overnight parking, but multiple vehicles obviously have been here overnight and more. Overnight parking is allowed to railroad employees, per town of Truckee website. A bit noisy due to traffic and trains, but we were not approached.
Report Check-InWent to verify if overnight parking is allowed. It is. There are signs in the east end of the parking lot stating OVERNIGHT PARKING ALLOWED
Report Check-InDidn't stay because the signs clearly indicate parking hours (5am - 10 pm), even though some campers were still there. Stayed here several time before when signs said overnight parking on alternating side of parking lot.
Report Check-InWent all the way down to the east end. All signs now say “no overnight parking” or something similar. Overnighting here must be a seasonal thing.
Report Check-InCorrecting my previous entry. There is overnight parking, but you have to go all the way east down the lot, to the very end. The coordinates listed are a bit off. Better coordinates are: 39.3298170, -120.1774156
Report Check-InCould not find any spots that say "overnight parking". All signs now say, "No parking 10pm to 5am." There are no days or dates. These signs are up all over the city of Truckee now...
Report Check-InThere's a quieter and more private spot by going north to Church St. then turning right (east). On the left (north) side of Church St. you will then see a segregated pull out. It was a whole lot quieter and private. There were two others staying here.
Google Maps doesn't show the directions to there but the satellite view shows it. See my attached screenshot.
Report Check-InGreat location! Only one block from Historic downtown Truckee. But get ready for trains all night long. they came about once an hour with their horns a blaring.
Report Check-InNo winter parking allowed — sign says no parking 10pm-5am from Nov. 1 to Apr. 30.
The other signs say:
-2 hour parking 5am-10pm (paid).
-Overnight parking alternating sides (but presumably only may 1 - October 31).
Photo attached.
Report Check-In- Right next to train tracks - train came hella times.
- overnight parking only allowed Monday, Wednesday, Friday - we stayed Saturday night and a cop drove through announcing there was no over night parking - but no one left so we didn’t leave...
Gravel lot across from the veterans building. Not sure if overnighting is possible, but there’s a couple of rvs here, and there’s a porta potty and a dumpster. Lovely views of downtown Truckee, tho lots of highway road noise.
Report Check-InUpdate after staying over Saturday night. No hassles from the mounties. However there were trains every couple of hours, complete with warning whistles.
Report Check-InSigns now indicate paid parking 5AM to 10PM Overnight parking allowed, alternating sides for days of week.
Report Check-InCity parking lot... free after 6pm. It is a paid parking lot between 7am-6pm. Sign says "overnight parking" in the end lot. We stayed from 7pm to 7am and were not bothered. Right next to train tracks.. only heard 1 about 9pm and nothing until 6am.
