Description

Large pullout at 1.2 miles from 101. You will gain a lot of altitude on the steep, windy, and narrow drive. Can fit 10 cars or so. Good LTE signal. If you drive into the spot further than the first area, there is more room. Gorgeous views but windy.

Beautiful spot! We stayed last night and there was absolutely no wind! I checked the weather for SLO ahead of time and it showed 2mph winds overnight so decided we’d try this spot. I can imagine it would be gorgeous here in the spring.

The road is paved except for the last 0.7 miles to this spot. The last bit right before the site is the sketchiest but we made it up just fine in our ford transit. Just be careful because this section is steep and has large ruts.

Report Check-In

Totally quiet and above the clouds. Definitly for smaller vehicles. I made it in a 21' class C rental up here. Ground clearance is needed for some parts.

Report Check-In

Great view and sweet pull out. There is Def lots of people at times here.

Report Check-In

No exit sign off 101 so watch your map location. I knew it was it as I passed it by on the first try. Great location. Ocean overcast is coming over the ridge now and looks cool. Hope it breaks up for some views in the AM. Definitely a sweet spot with lots of options when heading up/down 101.

Report Check-In

Narrow steep road up, yes, but the hardest/steepest bit is right before that spot. With non-beefy tires in our old 2WD sprinter we didn’t make it up there, tires spun, twice. Didn’t want to toast our transmission, so we retrieved. Backing down there sucks, so think twice if you don’t have the sportiest yet big rig.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Big view of SLO. Road in is passable by any vehicle of you take it slow over the rutted places. Clean with virtually no garbage.

Report Check-In

I stayed at the first singular spot, and at 9:30 the next morning I watched a homeless man walk around the front of my van and try to open my passenger door. Luckily I yelled at him and he scurried off. I decided to go up further and got a spot after the radio towers and it was better. Lots of spots along the road and the level ones seem to get taken first so bring something to level with. Not much privacy as you're just off the road, but it's quiet enough and legal.

Report Check-In

This is a super cool spot to stay! Beautiful sunrise and sunset views. It was super windy and we shared the pullout with some others but it’s plenty big enough. The road was steep and curvy but and only super narrow.

Report Check-In

Definitely doable with a 2WD vehicle, but a bit bumpy. Stunning views and a decent amount of space, but also very windy. Really beautiful but might pass because of the wind if you need a good sleep.

Report Check-In

Not a lot of space up here but it’s legal and the view is incredible. Road is steep, but doable in a vehicle.

Report Check-In

Incredible view above the clouds for sunset. Road was steep with a few sketchy blind switchbacks but I saw massive RV’s make it up. This spot in particular is not so private though, there were a lot of kids partying and being super loud, though it was a Saturday night. There were plenty of other spots further down the road but everyone seemed to park here. Sadly there was also a ton of toilet paper and trash in the bushes. Overall a decent stay but would probably not come back on a weekend

Report Check-In

Open. Arrived 11pm. Dirt road was totally fine in 2wd Honda Ody. There is broken glass bottles in many many places around the site. be careful.

around halfway up the dirt road there is 1 singular spot you could pull into if you're not comfortable going further.

Report Check-In

it's only temporarily closed until March 14 2023 due to the large amount of rain they received.

Report Check-In

Gate closed, could not get in, super sketchy steep one lane hill, had to back up in the dark to get out.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

paved road half way up with tight turns, then turns to dirt. low clearance ok. only concern would be if you happen to be going up while someone is going down, reversing either way is sketchy!

there are probable 5 flat spots by only a couple flat spots with a view towards the ocean.

slept here 2 nights and worked remote from my van due to the good enough Verizon. starlink is decent but not great here too.

Report Check-In

This road scared the sh-t out of me, but there’s no turning around so you’re just in it once you start. I then wasn’t able to find the flat part, because it’s up a very steep slope that looked like a slight bump at the top and didn’t even look like anything else was up there. I parked down the road a bit in a tiny shoulder, not able to drive any more of this road to the further sites shown on the map. Later I found this place on foot but didn’t move up to it. Still pretty here.

Report Check-In

Gate at the bottom of access is OPEN, so the whole string of sites are accessible along TV Tower Rd. We opted for less driving up & chose this one; had a few neighbors until GALE winds picked up (unusual, but actual gale force winds) & tent campers evacuated.

The drive up is fine in a 2WD Transit, but parts of this site need HIGH clearance to get into. Road up is tightly twisted & several blind, narrow curves so a thing bigger than a van seems risky (and no turn-arounds en route, so if your rig is >25ft, SCOUT first).

Report Check-In

The place was as described, BUT, the road was much steeper and narrower than I anticipated. I made it in a camper van towing a 6x10 trailer, but I wouldn’t want to try it in something larger. Though there were two Airstreams in the more distant of the two lots, so it can be done. There is nothing remotely resembling flat ground here, which didn’t bother me. No hassles at all staying overnight. Many locals came up to see the sunset, but the joke’s on them - we were in a cloud. They left early.

Report Check-In

Great spot at the top of the ridge. Beautiful sunny day when I arrived, but woke up to cold fog and then the wind started to blow. Not terrible. Was going to stay a couple nights, but the heavy clouds never lifted by late afternoon so I left. Would definitely stay here again.

Report Check-In

Nice views, mostly un level. Don’t bother setting up a tent, way too windy and the ground is rock.

Report Check-In

beautiful views. Small flat turn out. Windy.

Report Check-In

not windy, we were the only people that stayed overnight. amazing view

Report Check-In

High elevation gives for incredible views. Good cell service. Only one other van was here when we stayed - space for at least 6-10 vans between the two clearings. Lots of wind as others have commented.

Report Check-In

Great views. Plenty of spots up and down the road. The road is a good one now worries about it. Good cell service. Plenty of wind while we stayed.

Report Check-In

This spot has amazing views of the ocean and mountains around! Great Verizon reception too. Road coming in is very steep and mostly one lane so be careful! We came on the weekend so it was pretty busy with bikers + runners.

Report Check-In

no longer closed as of 11/25/21. drove up to the large lot about 75% of the way up the hill. road in good condition and there were plenty of spots, but only a few were flat.

main issue is the wind - it gets really intense up here and you really have to work to position your vehicle to get out of the wind as best as possible.

Report Check-In

The road is open
Beautiful place, great sunset, good cell reception, no one bothered us
But- very very windy.. to a point it was kind of scary to sleep in our Sprinter Van like this..
The road is possible for 2WD but very steep and bumpy..
we drove a little bit farther and came back because this was the most protected spot related to the others

Report Check-In

as of June 2021 this road is still closed.

Report Check-In

As reported a few weeks ago, the road is closed. There is some area to park close to the 101, however. Not super desirable, but fine for a night of zzz.

Report Check-In

Gate to road is still closed 12/12/2020

Report Check-In

Gate to road is still closed 12/12/2020.

Report Check-In

Closed currently, gate locked to the entire road so none of the spots are accessible. Not sure if because of COVID or fire season.

Report Check-In

There is a locked gate preventing access to this spot and then others down the road.

Report Check-In

Closed due to covid. Slept on the driveway leading up to it but very slanted. Bummed!

Report Check-In

Great views. Got there late and the road is bumpy the further you go, gets quite steep and corroded in some areas. It was also quite packed last night as we got there later on so you might wanna get there early!

Report Check-In

This was an incredible spot. We got there about 30 minutes before sunset and tons of locals were coming up. We later found out 90% of the people up there were just up to watch the sunset. After 9pm it was just us and a couple other groups.

Report Check-In

I went on Memorial Day. To many sight seeing people. Besides that it’s a beautiful spot. Cell signal is good for AT&T

Report Check-In

greatest view! dirt road. extremely popular for the sunset apparently. BLM!! cars and vans ok. narrow road, though a caravan was parked up here. everybody leaves after the sunset.

Report Check-In

Told by a local this is the road to camp on “to escape the rule of the nanny state” there’s pull it’s with plenty of space all along the road that’s BLM land. Lots of level places with great views. No make ties but had great service and LTE

Report Check-In

Least windy of all of the campsites up here!

Report Check-In

Wow. This spot is WAY better than I’d expected. Nobody up here, totally quiet, and only 14 mins from downtown SLO!

Report Check-In

I 100% would not recommend this for any RV! There is a low branch at one point and the road is very windy in certain spots and very narrow for most of the drive with drop offs on the side. If you are in a van, it would be a perfect spot. Gorgeous views of the area on all sides. We unfortunately stayed here and the winds rocked our 25ft RV literally all night long. So be warned it will get very very windy due to the elevation and lack of protection. We were planning to stay for four nights and only stayed one due to the wind.

Report Check-In

Showed up around 12 am and had no problem finding the spot (can be a little creepy driving up the narrow road). Cell reception is good and once the morning fog cleared out its a beautiful view! A bit dirty, found lots of toilet paper and garbage in the bushes...don't forget to pack out your trash!

Report Check-In

Large pullout at 1.2 miles from 101. Can fit 10 cars or so. Good LTE signal.
