Mexico
Great place to access the Encrucijada Reserve and its mangrove.
The hotel offers rooms and restaurant. But they let us park for free in front of it with free access to electricity, bathroom and cold showers. :D
Access to wifi for 10pesos/hour.
The 2h30 tour in lancha in the Mangrove is worth the 300pesos/person.
The mangrove trees are the biggest we've ever seen.
But the most incredible are the birds. During the boat tour, you can see the 5 species of kingfishers, Boat-billed herons and AGAMI HERONS ! We saw more than 10 of them. We also saw a Northern Potoo and saw two more of them in the village afterwards :D
In the village and on the access road, you can see Yellow-naped Parrots and Giant Wrens, and many other birds.
We missed the double-striped Thick-knee and mangrove Cuckoo because it was dry season, but they're here too.
This is a community of fishermen that protects and promotes its beautiful environment.
You can go kayak on the main canal on your own. Watch for crocodiles and caimans.
The road to access Castano is not on Maps.me but appears on Google Maps. The last 13km are good dirt road.
Small and medium size rig ok. Not sure for big rig because of branches and small parking lot.
Stayed here 4 days. Recommended.

This place definitely has seen better days, but it is still a hidden gem and well worth the detour.
It’s right on the Rio San Nicolás and access to the deserted and endless Pacific beach is only by boat. From its airy terrace there’s superb wildlife watching - within our first minute after arriving we saw a fishing osprey and a caiman - but the early morning boat tour through the mangroves is hardly to beat. It’s like in a fairytale gliding noiseless through this nature paradise where you see an incredible variety of birds (we saw all kinds of herons including the agami, all kinds of kingfishers, but also woodpeckers, hummingbirds, green parrots and many more) and other animals like lizards, basilisks, iguanas and crocodiles and hunting bats. Highly recommended.
