West Yellowstone Police Department suggested this place to me as there is no street parking allowed overnight in town. They called it the truck stop but there are no amenities here, it’s truly just a pull off where truckers stop to sleep. It’s right outside of town and I felt very safe. Other vans and RVs were parked here overnight. Right next to the road but not too noisy, as cars are slowing down to enter town. 2-3 bars Verizon LTE. Next to forested area to walk dogs. (Beware of wildlife)
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stayed one night here so we could get to Bakers Hole campground early in the morning because it’s first come first serve. This lot can only fit about 6 big rigs. It was full by 8p. 38ft Skoolie fit fine and it was mostly level and Verizon signal was good.
Report Check-InNot bad. Like most others have said it’s good for a nights rest. We however ended up staying about two week’s waiting on a part to come in for vehicle repairs. Not once did any one come by to kick us out or say anything. Even had the Starlink set up on the roof so we could work during the week. Highway noise it to be expected but it dies down considerably at night. It’s about a mile into town by walking along the road or about a mile and a half following a trail connected to the truck stop (it is bear country with lots of sightings near the area so be safe!)
The go go espresso became our favorite coffee spot. Just a drive through one but they have walk up too. Chris and Tita were so so nice and hooked us up with a local diesel mechanic Mobile Mike. Unbelievably nice and fair guy. Was a hundred dollars to come out and spend like 2 hours with me deciphering what was wrong. He helped us find the part and didn’t even mark up the price for it.
Other notable spots in town:
The book peddler- Small bookshop with café
A general store on the east side run by a cute old couple
A market right next door. Okay prices for food but pretty typical for a tourist town ~$1-2 mark up.
Lots of restaurants. Most are pretty pricey but some of the ones off Main Street are more reasonable. Also a random falafel truck in town that’s really good.
A home and RV supply store on the southwest side of town. Basically a very small Home Depot.
A movie theater with a single Imax projector that shows an old faithful documentary all day then a single showing of a recent movie at 7pm.
The Fox Den was the only campground in town that allowed us dump waste, fill water, do laundry, and shower without being a guest. Showers were $7.50 and dump was $20. Coin laundry $2 for wash and ¢25 per 7 minutes on the dryer.
Report Check-InGood pullover for a night to wait for park to open. One poor comment would be the amount of toilet paper contributing to the forest adjacent to the west parking lot was really sad.
Report Check-InCLOSEST OVERNIGHT PARKING TO YELLOWSTONE NP!!! We use dozens of boondocking apps, including All Stays Rest Stop app, which showed there’s a rest stop at the bend of hwy 191/20 at the W.Yellowstone visitors center. There was 2 camper vans & a couple of vehicles parked when we arrived at that one. We were almost asleep @12:30am when we got a loud KNOCK from cop. Said it’s unlawful to overnight there & told us about this place just a few miles up. We saw 2 of the other people from center & the rest were semis pretty much. We didn’t feel as bad using our generator w all the rig noise & CRAZY interstate noise! Omg. Soooo LOUD! Every time a car flew by our trailer swayed & vibrated. Ok for a quick overnight I guess. Better than driving in the dark into the unknown, dead ass tired! Lol!
Report Check-InWe arrived at 7PM and found a few spots left that had room for a truck and trailer. As the other reviews said, it was a bit noisy, but very close to the entrance of Yellowstone. As with any other spot arriving early is a good thing. The lot was packed when we woke up.
Report Check-InSlept here for one night. a bunch of other vans parked with us. Lots of road noise but a free nights sleep.
Report Check-InHonestly not the worst. Obviously there is road noise and trucks in and out all night but I had good att service no knocks and no getting stuck so in the snow no complaints.
Report Check-InNice pull off, dark. We were there in January and it was still pretty busy (~5 vehicles on each side of road), so I imagine it's packed during the summer. We did get stuck in the snow due to old, un-plowed layers and our shitty tires. Got out easily with traction boards, our fault, not the pull-outs but beware of snow and know your vehicle.
Report Check-InConvenient for one night while all the camping are full or expensive. There is a forest where you could walk your pet!
Report Check-Insays no camping, but cars and rigs parked, both sides of 191. ok for the night.
Report Check-InSpent 2 nights right in front of the “no camping” sign. Had no issues. At least other 4 vans spent the night here too.
Report Check-InEasy spot for a night while exploring Yellowstone. Just outside West Yellowstone, Montana. Lots of rigs, camper vans, travel trailers, etc on both sides of the street. Plenty of space for multiple rigs. There’s also a hiking trail through the woods.
Report Check-InThe spot is really close from Yellowstone NP (west entrance).
A bit noisy. Felt safe.
Nice level pull off. Didn’t get bothered last night. Got in late (watch out for bison on your way) and there was a handful of cars and a truck here already. 2 bars of 5G with mint mobile/T-Mobile. Happy camping! :-)
Report Check-Inok for 1 night but be aware: it is a truckstop and if you are unlucky, the truck next to you will run its generator all night. fills up fully throughout the evening in high season, worth making a beeline to Old Faithful from here.
Report Check-InÓtimo lugar para dormir, perto da cidade de West Yellowstone e perto da entrada do parque. Tinha várias Vans e um trailer dormindo junto com a gente.
Report Check-InDirt pull off on side of the road. Lots of other vehicles parked for the night. Trucks, vans, diesels.
Report Check-InWest Yellowstone PD suggested this place to me as there is no street parking allowed overnight in town. Report Check-InOn the road. Free. Billboard says "day use only". It is two rest area for trucks but you have place to park.
Report Check-InPerfect place to sleep for an early entry to the park. We left at 5am to hopefully get a campsite in the park.
Report Check-InStayed here 1 night. There is a sign near the trail that said “day use only” but we assume this is for the trail since the lot was packed full of travelers by nightfall. Huge semi size parking, as well as parking along the edges for smaller vehicles. Did not see anywhere for tents. Basically a rest stop without bathrooms. Road noise was loud since it’s a highway, but didn’t bother us much. Level. Convenient.
Report Check-Ingrand stationnement style truck stop à 1 mile de l'entrée du parc, bruyant si les camions font marcher leur génératrice
