Description

MODERATOR NOTE: No overnight camping allowed, please respect the wishes of the locals.

The backside of the island has about 50 full time campers on it, technically the island closes between 10pm-5am but it is not enforced. Gets a bit rowdy on the weekends but quiet at night

Latest Check-Ins

We were up cleaning our van, checked the clock and it was 11:00pm. We tried to leave but the gate was locked. No one came by to make sure people left. Soooooo I guess we’ll just spend the night. We also had no ticket.

Report Check-In

There are signs prohibiting staying overnight. Last week the law changed in the city and you can no longer sleep in parking lots. This is due to the large volume of people living in Van.

Report Check-In

Stayed one night with no issues. I’ve heard from locals that this place is patrolled more than others though. It’s a really nice place to spend the day at though, dogs are allowed off leash and there’s fire pits.

Report Check-In

Car with a loud speaker drove by at 9:00 PM saying they were "closing down the island for the night." Two police cars at the entrance and exit when we left at 9:15.

Report Check-In

We stayed here and at about 9:15pm a police officer drove around the island with a loudspeaker telling everyone they're closing the island and locking the gate soon, so we left and found neighborhood parking in Mission Beach.

There is a marathon foot race coming up in 2 days that uses the island, so they could just be patrolling/enforcing due to that. This was our first attempt to stay here so we can't be sure. Probably worth trying again.

Report Check-In

we stayed here along with several other RV's and vans. a few looked like they have been here a while.
Yes there are signs that that say No parking front 10pm -4am.
we stayed with No problems
a few cars and trucks with playing loud music. but after 10:30ish it got quiet.
No facilities.

Stayed here Again with no issues along with dozens of others, it’s pretty obvious “Tiffany” is just spreading rumors to run people away from the spot

Report Check-In

Yes, signs are everywhere on the island noting no overnight camping and island closed 10pm to 4am. Yes, there are still plenty of rvs chancing it anyway (at least for the last 4 nights). No, we are not going to stay here as we don't like breaking the rules (We are here in USA as guests). Camp at your own risk.
What I will say is Tiffany's comments are a tad confusing considering the dates of each, I mean, why post the place as closed then next month park here anyway claiming a police officer shook your rv and you got 3 tickets.

Report Check-In

Haven't tried staying overnight here, but might give it a shot tonight.

will see how the general atmosphere is around closing time
