Description

This is probably the nicest place we've stayed at in a while. It's a big property so you first need to ask at the restaurant about camping. You'll be directed to the area near the pool and hotel rooms where you can camp. Access to the pool is 25 Quetzales per person per day. It gets hot in Chiquimula so the pool is awesome! Clean restrooms, changing rooms and showers. The place is very well kept and has a very nice relaxing vibe. We used an extension cord to access the electric outlets in the restrooms. Camping was Q50 p/p
Oct 2017: Entrance fee also on 10Q p.p.

This spot was ok for a place to stay before or after crossing the border at San Christoval. There is a charge to come into the main gate which has a gate guard 24-7. You then drive around to the left of all the buildings and follow the dirt road all the way to the back. You will see a hotel. drive past it on the left and park in the big field. Then walk past the pool to the hotel office to pay for camping. The pool was refreshing and the bathrooms were clean. We left very early to get to the border while it was still cool. So did t really see much of the property and didn’t go to the restaurants or see the caged animals people were talking about.

Report Check-In

The place itself is nice - a lot of space to put your car/tent and big pool.

slow wifi, only outdoor showers next to the pool

as in one comment already mentioned, before entering the campground you drive by some cages that have monkeys and other wild animals. all of them showed abnormal behaviour and did not seem healthy due to the circumstances they are in.
by entering this complex (the camping is part of it) you have to pay 10qu/pp - in other words that money is supporting those practices. Because of that I would not come here again

Report Check-In

Excelente lugar para acampar, Q10 p/p por entrar y Q50 p/p por acampar y uso de piscina, hay bastante espacio para poder poner tu campamento. Tranquilo y en excelente ubicación!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Indeed a perfect place for Overlanders, plenty of space to camp at any place you like. Prices still the same, Q10 / person for site entry and Q50 / person if you want to use the nice pool, baños or showers. Camping is free !!
If you have an extension cord they connect you for free also to 115V.
We stayed 2 nights and only had to pay one time.
There are 3 restaurants at the site, 2 close to the entrance and one just behind La Caballariza Hotel. It’s named Papa Tono y Mama Lola, good food in very nice garden setting for descent prices.

Report Check-In

Very lovely place inside a gated complex. Was later in the day so we stayed.
The pool was nice, bathrooms and shower lovely.
Hosts were friendly, not totally expensive for what you get.
Bugs at night in the back but not to bad.
Only real criticism I have was driving out, we noticed cages that weren’t big that houses monkeys, raccoons etc.
Not part of hotel BUT part of complex and we do NOT condone this. Even as a rescues (if that is the claim) they deserve far better housing then a 10x10 cage. They wild animals 🤨😔🥲

Report Check-In

Nice place, safe and with nice areas to camp, flat grass With shades, clean showers and toilets, electricity available, guard 24/7 paid 50Q

Report Check-In

Large flat, secure area located between hotel swimming pool and basketball court. Close access to toilets and cold showers. You can use the hotels WiFi but it is slow. Great place for a relaxing stay. We paid 50 GTQ for 2 of us with roof tent.

Report Check-In

Expansive grounds for our roof tent located behind the swimming pool. Easy access to toilets and cold showers. Paid 50 GTQ which also included (slow) WiFi (ask at reception for password).
Can highly recommend.

Report Check-In

50q pp. kids older than 5 also pay.
nice, but nothing more.

Report Check-In

Really nice place, good facilities. 35q pp or 50q pp if you want to use the pool.

Report Check-In

very nice spot with pool and a small tienda. 3 restaurants on the property of los laureles, one of them is this hotel. 50qtz pp and night including electricity from the bathroom, showers, toilets and internet. the area is beautiful also for some walks around the huge los laureles property.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one week. As already reported it's one of the nicest places we ever had, very pretty and clean facilities, very relaxing, very friendly and helpful staff, and excellent climate. Ample space for any kind of rig and beautiful view into the nature, but no shade for the camper.

Report Check-In

As described, this is a very nice place. Q50 for the pool, camping free (solo cyclist). Since it's the rainy season and it looked like rain I got permission to camp under a roof once the people left (9pm).
Very friendly folk. shop and fast food restaurant open until 9

Report Check-In

can highly recommend.
very quit spot to sleep. lots of space.
good wifi. showers are cold but very clean. can't get something better for this price !!!

Report Check-In

Nice place as discribed. Entry from the mainroad is through Finca Los Laureles.

Report Check-In

This really is a great stop! But you have to find the entrance....

Google Maps directions are accurate. You need to turn into the lot with the entry lift gate that has ENTRADA signs on it. The man at this gate will charge you the 10Q pp and give you a receipt. You will drive toward the pool (left). Maps tried to take us on a dirt path, but stay on the gravel road. Keep going. You will see a lovely pool with bushes around it. The camping parking is on the back side of the pool (opposite reception) right next to to the shower bathrooms and a basketball court. Drive past reception and keep going counter clockwise to get there. We checked in with reception as a courtesy and so they knew that WE knew the pools cost extra. Wifi does not reach the camping area.

Pools are still 25Q pp. Electricity is 5q now.

Report Check-In

MUST STOP!
10 qtz per person to camp, you drive round the back of the hotel so parked next to the toilets and showers (they have power points inside), we didn't pay to use the pool but it looked really nice! Beautiful grounds in a gated compound.

Report Check-In

So happy to be here. Lovely scenic and quiet. I almost drove past and left as the gate was closed. Guy came out and asked if I wanted camping. $10Q entrance and $25Q for the pool. Paid for the pool...but as it was so hot and the pool ended up bieng very warm, I enjoyed the cold shower more. Perfect after 5 hour drive from Antigua. Cold drinks and smoothies available. Easiest place to get to so far. Good for ANY size rig. no lenght or height restrictions. Stayed here in a 25' Class C towing a car.

Keep dogs on a leash as there are farm animals running free.

Nice snacks available all the day. Good people. Very busy the sunday. A little zoo (...) at the enter. Restaurants around. 10 km from Chiquimula.

Report Check-In

Wow! The pool looks great and wish we'd gotten there a little earlier to enjoy it! Showers aren't hot (and have had the doors removed?), but truly they felt warmer than most showers with those stupid heater heads on! Enjoyable actually. 20 q entrance fee per vehicle, 25 q/person to use the pool.

Report Check-In

Great place. There was an entrancefee also in 10Q pp. So 70 Q in total for 2 persons in a van. No hot water in the showers.

Report Check-In

Great overlanders spot. Free if you want. We arrived late afternoon and didn't want to use the pool, and didn't need electricity and there was no charge. We did eat at the restaurant as it's the right thing to do in order to keep such a great spot open to us overlanders.
This is a very relaxing, safe feeling spot and the wifi is good enough so we decided to stay a couple more night to get some work done. The pool is 25Q per person. Electricity is 50Q a car. The next days we chose to use the giant nice clean pool. It's wide enough to do some laps! There are lots of tables and chairs around the pool under shade to chill or work. This is a large ranch and sheep may pass by:) It's very quite at night. All the staff is very nice.

Report Check-In

I spent 24 days here sleeping in my tent while waiting for parts for my motorcycle which was being repaired in Chiquimula. The whole resort area of Los Laureles is gated with 24 hours security. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food at restaurant Tono y Lola was excellent. Bathrooms were clean and showers were just a little on the cold side. The pool is a must. Large and refreshing. WiFi speed was a little slow at the hotel but were faster at the restaurant.

Report Check-In

Perfect location before, just 1h drive to honduras border. As described, 25Q pp

Report Check-In

Our best camp-spot in Guatemala so far. Clean pool (perfect for kids), quite during the week, nice toilets and showers. Internet pretty fast at the reception and the small open air cafe. You can charge your lap on both places. If you use an range-extender you can probably use the internet at your site. They didn't charged us for camping. Only 25 Q per person to use the pool. Perfect climate. Warm and dry. Less mosquitoes.

Report Check-In

great place as everybody says
stayed 2 nights and just paid 25Q pP for the pool
would definitely come back!

Report Check-In

Agree with all other comments. Very nice place to stay, beautiful compound, nice pool area, friendly staff and clean bathrooms. Fast wifi when we were there. In the evening the pool area got kind of crowded with young people but the pool closes at 9 pm, so it was quiet in the night.

Report Check-In

Agree with all comments about beauty of the place and good restrooms and showers. Wifi was crapping out at night, but good during the day. We paid nothing for camping (don't need power). Only paid 25Q per person the day that we used the pool. Had diner at on site restaurant Casa de Mama ? y Papa ? (forgot the names of the parents). Concept: eat with your hands. The waiter brought handsanatizer though.

Report Check-In

We came back here again for a few nights on our way west again since it was so quiet and well maintained. Only drawback was slow Wi-Fi. Paid 100q per night for two people for camping and pool access (they give you a bracelet).

Report Check-In

Please note: Restaurant told us to go straight to hotel reception. There an hombre took us around to other side of pool area to show us where to park. Camping is no longer free. We paid 25q ea to camp and 25q ea to use pool (you get a bracelet for pool use for each day) so 100q total a night for two people. Agree with comments about bathrooms. Pool is large and clean and has shade with tables and chairs. We plugged into bathroom outlets and power was strong enough to run our AC. On and off Wi-Fi but did not reach campsite without an extender. Tigo reception good.

Report Check-In

As stated this place is excellent. Pretty muddy in the parking area when it's rainy, pick your spot carefully. They now charge 15Q to plug into power. I think that's fair enough for a place that's free otherwise.

Report Check-In

Free to camp, excellent food, best place in Guate

Report Check-In

muy buen lugar es gratis el camping solo el uso de la piscina es de 25 Quetzal y hay acceso al baño ducha lo recomiendo totalmente las personas muy agradables y servicial gracias .

Report Check-In

perfect place for Overlanders! didn't use the pool (25Q) but the restrooms were amazing. refreshing and clean. huge grassy field to park, under mango-trees.
only CON: sad animals in small cages on the property

Report Check-In

Such an amazing spot! And, yes, it's still free! WIFI, bathrooms, showers, and you can run an extension cord into the bathroom for electricity. To use the pool there is a fee of 25q each day but it's totally worth it. Everyone was super friendly. Just talk to the guys at the restaurant right after you turn onto the property about camping and they'll get you settled.

Report Check-In

You'll be directed to the area near the pool and cabanas where you can camp. The pool is 25 Quetzales per person per day. We stayed 3 nights and used the pool every day. It gets hot in Chiquimula! really great place. We are travelling with a toddler so the animals (although in sad cages) and the playground were great. Food yummy but overpriced. Very peaceful campsite, we stayed longer than we planned

Report Check-In

Good stop before crossing to Honduras .. Clean showers, toilets ..

Report Check-In

camped here twice on either end of our trip up to Tikal. first time was very quiet and peaceful (Monday/Tuesday nights). second time there were lots of parties at the pool and at the restaurant (Wednesday/Thursday nights) with music late into the evenings... but hey, it was free.

showers at the pool are also FREE. the bathrooms are extremely nice as well, some of the best we had in Guatemala.

the restaurant (Parrillada) is a bit pricey but the shared plates are enormous, we stretched them for 2 meals. the restaurant also does have WiFi. it won't reach your campsite but you can access if you eat there and from the parking lot in front.

the tienda at the pool also has food and drinks for a much more reasonable, normal Guatemalan price.

Report Check-In

Great place!!! Large complex with 2 restaurants, a swimming pool and more. The reason it is free (we asked) it's because the owner likes helping travelers for some reason and it has been welcoming us for years. Workers know and they tell you where to park and won't bother you at all. They don't expect you to pay or use the restaurant. Bathrooms and showers are free, if you want to use swimming pool is 25 quetzals per person. No electricity but we saw some sockets we could have used. We were tempted to stay longer but finally decided to continue our way to Honduras.

Report Check-In

Beautiful location and free camping. The bathrooms are very nice, but showers and use of the pool costs 25Q per person so we didn't use them. They probably want you to eat at the restaurant (looks delicious but expensive), but we didn't and no one said anything to us.

Report Check-In

- free
- ask at the restaurant for camping
- very nice grassy field with a lot of trees, the whole place is quite large
- there is a pool (costs extra) and some cabanas
- the bathrooms were closed when we were there, but we didn't bother to ask if there are others
- others have reported that showers cost extra, we did not ask either

Report Check-In

Very nice place to sleep in the middle of the trees and green. Best of all, FREE! At the gate to the restaurant to ask if you can camp and then they show you where to go. It is just behind the restaurant. It has cabanas and a pool (extra) costs an extra shower also, we have not required. No water or electricity, but super quiet, idyllic and free.

Report Check-In

Good to stay overnight, toilet available, otherwise not (yet) infrastructure. If you stand at the bottom, so it is quiet. Free (ate very well in the restaurant).
